T.o.

The Raiders will definitely consider picking him up... it seems like they've never seen a player with character flaws they didn't like. ;)
He does seem like he'd fit in with the raiders, but I can't imagine they have salary cap room for TWO wide-receiver primadonnas. And, I can't see either Randy Moss or T.O. liking the idea of sharing receptions.

The money issue is going to be very interesting. Because of "conduct detrimental to the team", they can suspend him for 4 games without pay. They have to pay him for the rest of the games. And then there's the remaining 6 years of $7M/each. The players union is involved. I can't see him playing anywhere else this season; the trade deadline is passed.

Maybe in the offseason they'll trade him for Ricky Williams.

Not possible... they've already got so much money tied up between Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison that I'm amazed they can afford anyone else.

Besides, General Peyton DEFINITELY wouldn't put up with T.O... not for a second.

You sound very up on your cheerleader research. :)

It's hard to imagine this not turning into a financial windfall for both of them if they're willing to exploit it, which seems likely (not too many people with moral scruples have sex in bathrooms.)

Professional cheerleading is such an interesting phenomenon to me. Here you have pro athletes making millions, and then you have the cheerleaders, who certainly are a part of the team image, doing basically a volunteer job that requires a huge number of hours of work and training, in order to dance around in short shorts during sub-zero weather. And they fiercely compete for spots on the squad. It boggles the mind.

See, that's the key. The Eagles really weren't winning, even with him on the team. (Except for a phenomenal special-teams play, they should've been 3-4 before Sunday.) Baseball is filled with teams with marquee players who build up great individual numbers but don't win. Phillie was becoming one of those teams. No matter what his production, continually criticizing your quarterback and organization, and egregious acts like the Dallas jersey, outweigh the production because they weigh on a team. I still can't understand why the guy hasn't learned to just shut the hell up.

Exactly. I believe the highest-paid cheerleaders in the NFL are the Raiderettes, and they make something like $75 each for each game... and there are only 10 games per season (plus playoff games). They're NOT making any kind of real money for the actual cheerleading.

But the possibilities for merchandising (calendars, especially) are pretty good for at least some of the cheerleaders (Cowboys, Eagles cheerleaders). And of course it looks GREAT on their résumés, and they get to hobnob with a lot of big wheels.

I kind of meant that as a joke. While TO is a very good receiver I don't think he is "The best in the NFL" As for the money, I think next year we are going to lose Edge so that will free up loads of money. (Of course we would need a RB not a WR).

I can't forget about last year though. He was unstoppable (I guess the injury stopped him though  ). At any given moment he can change the game. I think if Five wasn't hurt, the team would be 6-2 or something and T.O. would be awesome. If the defense wasn't giving up a million points per game, we may might be 8-0. They went from a bend-but-don't-break D the last few years to a bend-and-break D this year. T.O. may be a total ass, but he is not the reason we are 4-4.

we can take him back in the bay area on the 49ers or raiders...this year, the niners are terrible and could use all the help they can get

the raiders, from 1980 and beyond, are noted for taking players in their last five years of play, namely other teams rejects, and winning the AFC west, AFC championships, and superbowls...they can take TO to the playoffs

T.O. is simply not a team player, and even his tremendous athletic talent can't hide the fact that he doesn't contribute as a memeber of a team.

I'm surprised he hung around this long - and I wonder who he'll end up with next. Hopelly a crappy team.

Speaking of crappy teams, Cleveland actually won on Sunday (yay). I think Romeo will actually be able to finally build a contender out of the hapless Browns. Our defense won the game for us though. The offense looked strong but I think the play calling was bad.

Just wish

I just wish no team had a need for TO. I realize someone, probably a couple, will make an offer to him because they NEED a receiver. But it would be great if the NFL as a whole could make an example that this type of behavior ruins the game for everyone.

He is honestly the only player I can't stand. I found his celebrations, aside from disrespecting other teams(Dallas), amusing. Celebration rules to me are a little crazy...but thats a whole other issue(see Vandy/Florida).

I can't stand him due to his need to come off as the victim every time. He makes millions to play a game for a living. He is a hero to thousands of kids, if you cant appreciate that alone, then I say be gone.

WOW. Jamal Lewis went to jail for facilitating a drug-trafficking crime. Randy Moss has admitted using marijuana while playing in the NFL. John Welbourn and many others have been suspended for cheating by using illegal steroids. The list of worse NFL players goes on forever. I'd take a pain in the ass and club house cancer over a criminal any day.

Good point, but we shouldn't have to put up with either.

Oh, and you forgot about Ray Lewis. Accessory to murder if not worse.

The Eagles have been a playoff team sense 2000 and have been to the NFC Championship every year sense '01. In '04 they got past the NFC Championship hump and into the Super Bowl w/o TO. And apparently they would've won the Super Bowl if McNabb had played better (at least according to TO). TO came to a very good team and instead of elevating them greatness he made them marginally better.

TO may not be the reason the Eagles are 4-4, but he hasn't done much to keep them from being 4-4. Has TO been a team leader and tried to rally the troops? Has he done things to get his team pumped and motivated? No. He's done the exact opposite. He's torn down his team. He's torn down moral. He's made a tough seasoner even tougher. His actions off the field hurt the Eagles much more than his contributions on the field help them.

And now, he tries to come crawling back.

And fails miserably.
``I fight for what I think is right. In doing so, I alienated a lot of my fans and my teammates,'' Owens said, reading a statement outside his house.
Fought for what he thought was right? If he truly believes that he's more self-centered and egotistical than I ever imagined.

I can't disagree with this statement less. The birds had a certain attitude last year that wasn't there every other year. That attitude was directly related to T.O. He may not have physically been playing, but his attitude is what got them over the hump and to the Bowl.

That's because he is not a leader. Many of the best players in sports are not leaders. There are many less talented players who still make teams because they can be clubhouse leaders even if there are more skilled players available. Relatively speaking, it is rare to find a player that is both.

Very true

I agree that those are all much more offensive to society, especially when you throw in Ray Lewis as someone else did. But why is it, that these seemed to be lesser stories, IE less coverage, than TO? It could just be my perception, but it seems he puts himself into these situations constantly.

Jamal Lewis should have been kicked out of the league. If you work for a major company and get convicted of drug trafficing, you don't get a 4 day suspension without pay, you get canned. I am sure if Joe Schmo, 3rd string kicker from Houston, got caught for the same, he never would have played again.

Steroids I am not gonna touch since it seems rampant in all professional sports right now and I don't have an answer.

Yer right, he's not a leader. But you don't have to be a leader to not be a massively negative influence on your team. TO has the presence and influence to be a leader (you even said that merely TO's presence last year elevated the Eagles' play), but he choses to be a self-centered man-child instead. TO's inablity to be anything even remotely close to a team player is why the Eagles punted his sorry @ss. That's step 1 to salvaging their team.

I've been wondering why TO has had the huge attitude shift sense last season and I think I figured it out. TO blames the rest of the team (especially McNabb) for losing the Super Bowl thus robbing him of his chance to be Capt. Super Stud Hero. If the Eagles would've won the Super Bowl TO would've been praised for coming back from a serious injury, against all odds, and leading his team to a Super Bowl Championship. But sense they lost his comeback will just be another NFL footnote, and TO misses out on all of that ego-stroking praise he so desperately craves.

I'd bet (and I obviously can't prove it) that things went bad because McFive and the rest of the Eagles said they can win with or without him. I'm think he took that too personally. Many people say that he hold grudges.

Also, Howard Eskin from WIP Sports Radio Philadelphia was reported in the middle of last season, that TO and his agent had every intention of renegotiating his contract.

Basically, things went bad before the SB loss. I think a Super Bowl win would have made things worse. He would have demanded even more star treatment.
