I saw a rumor on a few other boards that Priest Holmes is going to announce his retirement this week. Something about an abnormality on his spine that could paralyse him if he gets hit just right. Anyone else hear this rumor? I'll post more if I learn more.

now abc news radio reported at 10am this morning that owens might go to the new york jets?

he may end up being one of those players who gets bounced from team to team in his career but still plays into his late 30s and rides off into the sunset with a ton of money, even without a superbowl ring

on the baseball front, i wonder how (equally difficult and egotistical) barry bonds of the san francisco giants (with his advancing age and his injuries) will play out in san francisco

the man has a career that can get him 800+ plus home runs before he is too old and worn out, but san francisco will have to be very patient with bonds and his injury prone body and overall bad attitute with press, fans, teamates, and coaches

but as he approaches Aarons home run record, he'll sell tickets, which is a plus for the Giants.

Not to stray off topic though. T.O. to the Jets doesn't make to much sense to me, they have much larger needs (unless Bollinger is the next Brady). I think he sits the year out and comes back next season. Or I hope he does cause I dropped him in fantasy football:)

all the years TO played for the 49ers, and all the antics, the bad press, at least here in northern california, still went to barry bonds and his prima donna attitude...he's bad enough for all bay area sports ;)

i think both TO and barry bonds are ticket goldmines for their teams, but nobody is above the team, or above any sport

btw, what is really that wrong with TO and the new york jets? i have a feeling that TO will not be as disruptive to the next team he goes to, and if he is, with all the media on him these days, he will get fired without much warning

maybe if TO gets kicked out of football forever, and some think that is the right thing to do, then that can leave bernie mac to play him in a movie!!

Herm Edwards doesn't really strike me as a guy that would want T.O. on his team, he probably could quiet down but thats what everybody figured he would do when he was traded to the Eagles. I guess the one obvious guess would be to the Raiders, as every loud mouth goes there and calms down. I haven't heard from Warren Sapp for a long time.

i would love to see the raiders, with their ever present cadre of washed up players and last round draft picks to spice up with TO and finish better than expected

2002 was a good season for them, but certainly a fluke, and their lack of depth showed and the well crafted bucs tore them apart in the superbowl

I'd bet (and I obviously can't prove it) that things went bad because McFive and the rest of the Eagles said they can win with or without him. I'm think he took that too personally. Many people say that he hold grudges.
I think that's a misreading of what McNabb was saying. What he was saying was, he'd like to win with T.O., but if T.O. wants to take himself out, they'll focus on winning without him. Much, much more benign than what T.O. said & did. In any organization, a talented person who is good at individual achievements but bad for morale, winds up being more detrimental than they're worth. I've managed a number of very talented people who wound up being a huge burden because of their egos. It brings *everyone* down, and it's just not worth it.

Maybe a month without his paycheck will turn him around, and I hope so for the Eagles organization, but I doubt it... I still think it'd be interesting if they traded him for Ricky Williams. :)

Wow NY lost to the Viking.

'Skins. STOP TURNING OVER THE FOOTBALL. YOU CAN'T WIN IF YOU KEEP GIVING THE OTHER TEAM THE BALL. ARGH!!!
Anyway, so much for the defensive slug out that the TB/Wash game was supposed to be. Hopefully Philly will beat Dallas on MNF and the NFC East teams will stay neck and neck.

Nice to see GB win, especially when it means the Falcons lost.

Especially since it means the Panthers are now in sole possession of #1 in the NFC South. :)

steelers finally settled down on defense...those third down stats are ugly, though (31st in both 3rd down conversions on offense and giving up 3rd down conversions on defense).

they gotta get duce running, too. there's not going to be any bus next year, and willie parker's not an every down back. let him run!

Rebel in search of a cause. Ralph Nader's in on it too, as if anyone cares what he has to say. Football is a business, and it has rules. True, as a society, it's more detrimental for a player to abuse drugs or engage in violent behavior than to spout off. But for a football organization, the verbiage and negativity can be worse. Imagine if T.O. worked for a Fortune 500 company, and he went on TV and called the company classless, and said they'd be better with the CEO of a certain competitor company. Free speech or not, he'd lose his job.

To Baltimore Fans

To all the fans of Baltimore....consider next weeks game versus the Burgh to be a great big gift, wrapped up in a black and gold ribbon, brought to you by the awful athletic abilities of Tommy Maddox...

Everytime a Baltimore defender intercepts a pass, say a little "thanks" to old turnover Tommy...

To all the fans of the Burgh....we're screwed...2 game losing streak is rapidly approaching...

oh well, it was fun while it lasted...

:(

??? Is maddox going to start next week??? I saw where Ben was throwing and may actually play next week. If not I would figure they would start Batch.

I missed that entirely. Just goes to show what happens when you only watch the scores:) Hopefully Ben will be back this week however I am kinda torn. I really like the burgh and would like to see them win, but they are possibly the biggest challenge the Colts have. so any loss they get helps the Colts in the long run.

What would be fun would be if they decide to start Randel-El at QB... he showed on Sunday that he's a heck of a lot more accurate with the long ball than Tommyboy is.

it kills me to see tommy maddox struggle like that- he was the lord god of all pittsburgh a couple years ago.

if he does have to start, at least it won't be at home- i don't think he can get the fans out of his head.

ben's listed as questionable for the game- i'd just as soon he sit out another one. i'd rather drop one now to baltimore than have big ben gimpy for the rest of the year.

Maddox is actually quite a good quarterback, clearly no Roethlisberger but more than competent. I think he's suffering from the same psychological hangups as Kordell Stewart was re: the fans in Pittsburgh, who have always been very fickle with quarterbacks. Terry Bradshaw, winner of 4 superbowls and in the hall of fame, was booed often in the 70's during the superbowl years. Last year, during the end of the season Roethlisberger slump, some fans were actually calling for the return of Tommy.

My guess is that being on the road, he'll have less of that home-field pressure, and will have a real decent game against the Ravens. At least one TD pass (for the offense, not one returned by the defense). And Staley will have a big game.

Randle El has a perfect quarterback rating, but that's because of the element of surprise. Throwing to a wide-open receiver is alot easier than having to look off defenders and then throw into coverage. Hell, LaDanian Tomlinson has a great passer rating, but nobody's talking about putting him under center.

i wish I could share in your optimisim....

but Tommy is bad.....real bad....

I really don't think Randel El would be much better though...

I met Tommy a few years ago...and he seemed very....well let's just say...slow..

run the ball...run the ball....run the ball....fake it and let randle throw it...or jerome...and if Tommy HAS to throw...screen, screen, screen

we'll see....

Yup, Tommy Maddox sucks. He had one good year in 2002...but that's it. He has a career QB rating of 72.4, and has thrown more INT's than TD's. End of discussion.

Tommy Maddox sucks but I think it would be awesome if Antwan Randle El went under center. What a threat

And speaking of the whole WR QB switch did you see matt jones' game he was amazing for an old QB
