Go Bolts!

Chargers all the way next season.

I can't even begin to describe how happy it made me to watch the BLACK and GOLD stomp all over the broncos. Jake the Snake can go slither back under his rock now, bye bye!

so, who's going to detroit?

THIS GUY!

my dad called an hour after the game. the people he splits tix with won the SB ticket lottery and got two tix. to celebrate, they're throwing a huge hotel party in detroit, and inviting their whole tailgating crew. it's half way between chicago and pgh, so i'm driving out there to meet my folks there and party for the weekend, and I am not ruling out the possibility of drinking myself stupid enough to blow my vacation money on tickets.

As far as the matchup goes, I didn't see enough of the seahawks this year to know what to expect. they've got a solid team, and it should be a good game. i'm just hoping the steelers don't have a let down from just getting there, you know?

woohoo!

unlike clayj, i'll be rooting for the team that knocked us out. i thought that's what most people do, but i could be wrong.

I don't believe that most people do this, simply because it's the philosophy I've followed since grade school basketball tournaments. I've rarely found others who think the same. Most people tend to be petty and wish ill will on the team that beats them (this is fine in the regular season but it never made sense to me in tournaments).

Would you rather your team be beaten by some schmucks that were beat in the next tournament round by a team you might have been able to beat or would you rather have been beaten by the tournament champions? I've always thought it preferable to be beaten by the best so you could always justify that maybe you are second best....

Well, what can I say - Pittsburgh simply outplayed Denver, and Seattle simply outplayed Carolina - it's pretty cut and dried - no bad calls, no controversy as I see it.

Pittsburgh have impressed me, although I still wonder if fate would have taken a much different course if Carson Palmer wouldn't have been injured on that first play a couple weeks back... ;) Regardless, Pittsburgh is a solid team, and the way they've been playing, they deserve to be in the big game. As for Seattle, they've been solid for the entire year, and if I was putting money on the game, I'd have to say the Seahawks will win the whole thing. Yesterday was a great example - solid offense and solid defense - they looked pretty invincible to me...

What does that 12 flag mean? I was watching the game but was playing my drums throughout and saw that flag a bunch of times. I'm clueless.

The 12th man (ie the fans) who are apparently loud in Seattle. They weren't particularly at the last Seattle game I was at in 2002 mind you when the Chiefs and Seahawks put up over 1000 yards of offense combined

After hearing what happened during the end of the 3rd/4th quarter, I'm glad I went to bed when I did! Seahawks thoroughly deserved their win; I don't buy that the Panthers were just lucky in the past two weeks but they definitely didn't seem ready for this one. The 'Hawks just got in their faces, disrupted their rhythm and the Panthers had no answer to it. What alarmed me was how much the Panthers D fell apart; they left some big holes open.

I need to find tickets now! My Steelers are going! I was just a kid when I was crushed by their post-season loss to Denver in the 1989 playoffs. I literally cried myself to sleep after that loss. I was a teenager when they just missed going to the Superbowl in 1994 and when the lost it 1995. I'm so pumped!!! I'm just starting out on my own and need to find a cheap way to get tickets. Unfortunately brokers are selling them for $2400 now. At least I have two weeks to scheme up so tickets. Go Stillers!!!!

in 1994, the nfc team was the record breaking 49ers and in 1995 the nfc team was the machine of the 90s, the dallas cowboys...and both won

i think this could be the time for the steelers this year with jerome bettis (la rams, st. louis rams, and now steelers) nearing 34 and possibly seeing his last season so i know he's very hungry for a superbowl championship

i remember back when elway was in his mid-30s and going for that elusive superbowl ring and the press was all over it...right now, they are talking about bettis as if this year may be his last and he has been referred to as a "future hall of famer" and a win for him in the superbowl, and possibly superbowl mvp, would definitely be a ticket to the hall of fame

it is always sad to see a great player like marino or tarkenton put up great numbers over a long career and yet never win the superbowl

Well, congratulations to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 2005 NFL Champions. Although I was pulling for the Broncos, the Steelers proved themselves the better team.

And I must say, its a classy thing that the steelers are letting Seattle come to the end of year party to celebrate a successful season. That probably means a lot to a team like Seattle, who hopes to maybe one day play with the big boys, too. After all, I hear they won the consolation game yesterday.

Wow.

The Burp came to play. I don't know what High School football team showed up for the Donkos, but they got their assed handed to them fair and square.

And Seattle looked very solid and in charge. The Panters.. well.. Jake. Tough break.

I'm calling Squawks as SB Champs in 2 weeks.

It's even sadder when you see idiots saying that because they never won a Super Bowl, they can't be classed as great players. That always makes me angry. (Not that you were... the comment just reminded me of a recent article I read taking a different view)

When you consider that there are guys who played special teams or were on a practice squad who get Superbowl rings (heck, the Niners used to give them to the cheerleaders!), not everyone who is wearing one can be great. And to rubbish Marino, Tarkenton, Sanders just because they don't have one is wrong.

in baseball, there is probably no critic who will criticize the play of ringless ichiro or barry bonds...they are almost bigger than the world series and almost bigger than sports, like that uk soccor player who likes to always change his hair? ;)

btw, is he (beckham) your answer to elvis? or is jude law? (btw, i wish we had an american actor of the new generation as cool, or as in demand, as jude law)

Who loves the Steelers?

I do,

You've read my posts on here all season..

All I care about is the Steelers, I'm from Pittsburgh even though I don't live there anymore..and I've always had the faith.

During our 3 game losing streak there were a lot of haters and doubters, but not this guy..

We are a solid team, playing with passion, and desire..we are playing aggressive and under control..Ben is writing is legacy every week.

Give some props to this team. We made history by beating the crap out of the # 1, 2 and 3 seeds on the road...pretty much one of the most impressive feats I've seen any sports franchise accomplish..

I'm also very happy that the Seahawks are our opponents as I have a lot of respect for that organization, and I couldn't pick a better opponent.

Needless to say, I'm estatic, up here in BC, there are probably 20 people that would know why I'm estatic, but oh well, it's not an NFL country.

HERE WE GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!STEELERS

to DETROIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D :D :D :D

I certainly hope not. If he and Posh are the face of Britain, I'm emigrating.

Naw, I think Rowan Atkinson is the Face of Britain. And what a face! :D

Denver simply got taken apart. But to be fair, they didn't look all that solid against the Patriots. The Seahawks similarly de-constructed the Panthers, who I expected to put up a much bigger fight.

I have to say that the Steelers look too strong for the Seahawks, though I'm praying Seattle wins it all - it's nice to see a new face on top.

Steelers Favored

Steelers are favored - 3.5 to 4, depending on where you look. I'm hoping this reverses in the coming days - they play better when they're the underdogs. However, it seems rather appropriate that they're favored, given how they've been playing lately. 7 straight wins, 5 against teams with winning records, 5 road wins, the last 3 vs. the top 3 teams in the AFC. They've averaged 29 points per game while giving up 12 per game during the streak. Defense has only given up one 100-yard rushing performance in the past 31 games. Now, Seattle's a good solid team, but the only real good team they've played lately is Carolina. They struggled to beat Tennessee and lost to Green Bay (albeit while resting their starters). And Detroit is going to be packed with Steeler fans. This one will be closer than the other Pittsburgh wins, but I think the Steelers have this one, 34-23. Alexander gets 75 yards rushing, Hasselbeck has two turnovers. Bettis runs & throws for a TD. Roethlisberger, however, is MVP.

You raise an interesting point - if Pittsburgh does indeed win, I wonder who will get MVP? Obviously it completely depends on how everyone plays, but still, you'd think it would be nice to give to Bettis in general... ;)

I really hope that it's at least a one score game. I hate blowout no-contest Superbowls, although it's funny to hear TV executives gnashing their teeth all the way from New York.

Yes, I'm hoping for a real close exciting game as well - after all, it is the SuperBowl. ;)

Most definitely... I was at SuperBowl XXXVIII in Houston 2 years ago which was a cracker of a game. Really defensive and tentative in the first quarter or so and then the scoring exploded... Patriots won on a field goal in last 10 seconds after John Kasay kicked the ball out of bounds after the Panthers had tied the game. It was a huge amount of fun. I'd recommend the experience to any NFL fan... even if your team's not in it.

It will be interesting to see what adjustments the 'hawks make on D. Unlike the Broncos and Colts the 'hawks have two games of film on the "new", pass oriented Steelers O. I wonder if the Steelers will come out throwing again or if they'll go back to pounding the ball like they did during the regular season.

You bring up a good point. Detroit is really just a stone throw away from Pittsburg in the big picture when you compare Seattle. Seattle fans just are not as used to traveling to see their team play. The closest stadium is a plane flight away basically, not a road trip like the Steelers fans.

I bet that the SB is going to be nearly 70% Steelers fans, just due to the gigantic distance Seattle fans have to travel.
