I'd heard the story about kids getting in free in Scotland, but only in passing. Is it literally any kids arriving get in free, or do they have to be accompanied by a paying adult or something?

I suppose if you're getting tickets in advance then you could get put in a family area, if you're not keen on your youngsters hearing some 'industrial' language.

From the clubs point of view, although they're losing out on the price of a junior ticket they'll more than recoup it if these kids become regular attendees – and of course they're likely to spend in the ground on refreshments and maybe a programme.

Still, I'm glad to see Fuzzy embracing this initiative – he's taken a young Scottish kid along to see his local club as this photo proves... :p

LOL. 79% of possession and still 1-0 down :D :D

EDIT : DAMN!!! I thought the second was coming then.

BTW Well done Hull :)
Why thank you.

But some worrying news ahead of our match against Arsenal on Saturday. Zayatte as mentioned previously is suspended for this match, meaning that Paul McShane was likely to move from right back to cover for him. However, I've just heard on the radio that Sunderland have recalled him from loan with us, meaning that tonight's match was his last for the Tigers.

This means that – unless Anthony Gardner has Lazarusesque recovery – we'll have to play either the pace-lacking Wayne Brown there, draft in one of the kids from the reserves, or play someone out of position. A tactical headache for the gaffer, methinks.

Payback time me thinks :p

I predict 2-0 to Arsenal, of course

That Vidic lad looks pretty handy, I reckon he could fill in at centre back while Gardner gets fit.

Sort it out, Brownie – I want him in place for Saturday.

Vidic is going nowhere sonny jim! :p Good win for utd only 2 points behind Liverpool with 2 games in hand :D though we are playing poop and have a lot out to injuries.

I just pray Kaka does not goto City...... it will show them money can't buy everything (apart from a bottom league place) :p

I actually think Bolton away for us will be tough, Liverpool have the derby but they are at home....

Interesting times.....

I would imagine that the money clubs make from junior tickets sales is a pretty small %age. And no doubt some clubs will be pushging for taxpayers' money or lotter funding to subsidise.

The detail has still to be worked out, I would imagine (i.e. pure speculation) that kids registered with boys clubs/football teams would be able to get free tickets in advance, if they just turned up they would only get in for free if accompanied by a paying adult.

As R. says, a lot of the matches would be risky. I went to Scotland games at Hampden when I was still in primary school (oooh about 22 years ago now) but I wouldn't have ever gone to an Old Firm.

You've know I've never noticed how my hair style is so similar to that of Ian Krankie, however I am not continually seen in the presence of young boys. Or even old women mascarading as young boys!

I heard Graham Poll on a podcast say that Rob Styles will be the referee, and he won't want to make a "mistake" that will make headlines (i.e. against a big 4 team). Let's hope that's not the case.

The smart money would be on the Gunners of course, especially given that our home form is what's letting us down. However, I reckon we'll likely beat Arsenal comfortably before getting thrashed by West Ham and West Brom in the following two league games. It's the Hull City way. :p

We've not done too well with officials of late, with some key decisions going against us (some justly others not, to be fair). Hopefully we'll fare better with Mr R Styles (Hampshire) on Saturday.

Anyway, transfer news – we've completed the signing of Kevin Kilbane today, and apparently former Liverpool defender Steve Finnan is on his way to east Yorkshire from Espanyol. He's at the club tomorrow for a medical, if the reports are correct. I think Kilbane's signing is a solid one – he'll add a bit of balance on the left of the pitch and obviously he has a lot of top flight experience. I think Finnan could prove to be a good bit of business as well.

Meanwhile, our bid for Louis Boa Morte has collapsed after we couldn't agree personal terms with the cash-hungry winger. Not to worry.

Good news on Zinadine Kilbane. At least someone is moving during this transfer period. I woudn't worry about Boa Morte. He was too inconsistent when he was at Fulham. I imagine that Finan will slot in at right back, if he signed.

Yeah, as I say I think Kilbane and Finnan will prove to be good signings (assuming no there re no hiccups with Finnan's medical).

I'd heard that many West Ham fans were quite delighted that it looked Boa Morte would be leaving them, so maybe we've had a narrow escape there.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get another loan signing in either, I was joking earlier of course about Vidic but I can imagine us maybe getting another Manchester United kid in after Campbell's successful spell with us last season. I've read a few comments from Fergie saying that he was impressed with how we looked after Campbell, so I doubt he'd have any qualms about sending another young player here – assuming it suits his needs, of course.

We'll see.

Well, the Latics seem to have agreed to sell Wilson Palacios to Spurs for a fee of $14 million. Not bad seeing as we only paid $1 million for him a year ago.

Worried about selling our best players (Antonio Valencia is rumored to be leaving for Real Madrid) but can understand the sale somewhat.

I see that Benitez has rejected the current contract offer. I wonder if he is banking on winning some silverware and then coming back to the bargaining table in a stronger position...

It's not a money issue. They agreed on money, but he wants total transfer control, and the club won't give it to him.

Right. I suppose he hopes that winning a major trophy will give him some pull in the ongoing negotiations.

I won't pretend to be an expert, but I have to admit I'm a bit suspicious of directors of football and other higher-ups determining transfer targets. I guess I don't understand the system. Why shouldn't the manager be given control over transfers? After all, they are expected to come up with a formation and deploy it to best effect - and that is dependent largely on the types of players available.

Now, if Benitez wants total control over transfers, maybe that is going a bit far. I'm not sure that even Ferguson has that level of control, does he? Chelsea under pressure to score here.

EDIT: Stoke make good on their only real scoring opportunity and Rory Delap scores to take his side one up in the 61st. A very physical game so far.
