Newcastle fans need to hope they get rid of him ASAP. Nothing good will come of retaining his "services". He should never set foot on a pitch again as far as I'm concerned.

nice idea, but he signed a 5 year contract last summer at £60,000 a week, thats £12.5m left, as well as writing off his £5.85m transfer fee. Thats £21.5m total package to right off, easier said than done.

I would sack the idiotic git* who insisted on signing the scumbag.... oh they have! Now who wants to buy him????????

yeh right, as if.

*Big Sam is now worried Joey will get depressed and possibly commit suicide – because of how insensitively NUFC are handling the situation!!!??

I agree, it's definitely problematic. You're not going to get back what you paid. But paying someone to go to jail is sheer madness....what on earth was Big Sam thinking?

Football n00b again in the thread. Going to ask a question.

At what age is a footballer considered in his prime. I know it varies, but if you were to give an average, what would it be?

In the NBA (basketball), it's considered at around 29-30. This is because the player has not atrophied too much physically, but they start to figure the game out mentally and what they need to do. I was talking about this with a friend, and he said that a footballer's prime is much younger. Is this true?

For a football it really depends on his position.

Goalkeepers - 32 - 35
Defenders - 30 - 33
Midfielders - 27 - 31
Strikers - 22 - 28

Seems to me that it varies quite a bit; some players peak early and others have their best years later. I'm by no means a scholar of the game but it also depends on position - some positions are more physical and others more technical. This impacts the "lifespan" of a player's career.

A player's "prime" years could be maybe 22-30+, again depending on the player. 26-27 might be the peak. Just guesses.

I'd like to think that Newcastle would have grounds for terminating his contract due to the fact that he's bringing his club into disrepute. I'm sure if many of us were given a spell in prison due to assault our employers would take a dim view of it, and we might be looking for a new job once we came out.

It would be great if Newcastle took a bit of a stand over this, but i can't see it happening for the reasons you point out, B&Wtoon.

Oh My God, what was that shirt design for 1992-95, perhaps the worst I’ve ever seen!
This one, you mean? :D

Badandy... as you rightly guess, the 'peak' age varies for footballers. It just doesn't vary from player to player, but from position to position. For example, goalkeepers are generally reckoned to peak later than outfield players (in their early thirties) and generally enjoy longer careers. I suppose for most outfield types it'll be somewhere in their mid-20s to early-30s, depending on position and injuries.

That Tiger print shirt was a classic and some of the best times in the last 20 years of Hull City, not necessarily results wise - but more the way the team all got together and played for each other.

I think that the new Hull City away strip:

is one of the smartest shirts out there. Well I would say that, I got one for my birthday on Saturday

Happy Birthday.

I hope that, unlike the dummy in the photo, you'll wear some pants in addition to that shirt.

Thanks,

I will make an effort to wear some pants (it is not always guaranteed), along with the addition of arms and a head.

It is indeed rather nice, and I think it's better put together than the home one actually...

I got that shirt on Saturday as the original intention was to get the new home shirt but I wasn't that keen on it in person. I also got a 'hoodie' (where is David Cameron when you need him):

which is very nice. I also wanted to get the 'Dare To Dream' DVD but it was sold out :( .

Some of the stuff that city are producing in terms of clothing is very smart at the moment. What looked very nice and I may just be tempted are the training shirts:

Unfortunately, they probably wont need it that often as no other premier league clubs wear yellow/gold. I guess you can hope for a cup run with games at oxford, norwich, wolves, and watford.

The days of clubs only wearing their away shirts when there's a clash are long behind us – nowadays, a team will sport their alternative colours to help boost shirt sales. I suspect it'll get quite a few outings.

In any case, I suppose you could say we'd be fully justified wearing an away shirt when we play other stripe-wearing teams. Newcastle, Stoke, Sunderland, West Brom and Wigan are all likely to see some flint-clad Tigers over the course of the season.

Since this is a community thread and about football, I thought I'd mention that I bought a soccer ball on Saturday morning. I haven't played since I was 7 (and that is basically running around and getting free snacks afterwards), and it was a ton of fun. I went out with one of my friends and we just kicked it back and forth (I had to relearn how to kick, and I'm still curving it to the left and can't boot it very far off the ground) and tried to get better at juggling and stuff. It was a lot of fun, but I'm definitely not used to it: The muscle on the front of my shin is hurting a lot, so much so that I can barely lift my toes up when I'm driving my car.

I know, random and offtopic (sort of), but I just wanted to say it.

(I play a lot of basketball, so this was a new thing for me.)

Its great to play sports again that you have not played for a long time. Over the weekend I played cricket for the first time in about 5 years and I am in agony with my back! I used to be a quick bowler and thought I could bowl at the same speed straight away after no practice, not a good idea!

Football is a great game, whether you are kicking a ball around with some mates or watching Premiership Football. I hope your recent excursion reignited your interest, you know where to come for more info. Enjoy the season.

Clearly you're a natural right winger. Just master getting the ball of the ground and you'll be knocking in killer crosses in no time at all. ;)

I have no idea if that's a compliment or sarcasm, lol. I get the ball off the ground, it just doesn't go spectacularly far or high. If I'm passing to my friend, I'll kick with the side of my foot for accuracy and to keep it low, but when I just want to let loose it seems that I have the wrong angle of attack with my foot on the ball. Oh well, I'll play again soon...

hahaha, wow that shirt is amazing/horrendous!

Joey Barton – if they can terminate his contract and write off what they have already shelled out for then I’m sure they would, but for the moment it appears that his contract cannot be terminated without paying him off in full. At £12.5 million what sort of stand would that be? Are you suggesting Newcastle should make a moral stand and pay off the scumbag? – a no-win situation!

Footballers don’t get the same contracts as other workers I guess.;)

I tend to veer on the side of amazing, myself. That was the shirt I wore to matches last season, so it proved rather lucky in the end. ;)

In all seriousness though, it's a good shirt to wear to games. For one thing, when you're in the pub before hand it gets you noticed and quite a few conversations with away supporters have been started up when they've commented on how ace the shirt is. It brings people together, see. :D

Are you suggesting Newcastle should make a moral stand and pay off the scumbag? – a no-win situation!
I'd like to see the moral stand bit, but Barton not benefit financially. In an ideal world, I'd like to see Newcastle terminate his contract for 'bringing the club into disrepute' or whatever, and Barton not get a penny. Unfortunately though, we don't live in an ideal world. Hopefully though the club legal folk are looking at the situation and they can find a way to extract themselves from Barton without having to make a payout.

Hull City is going to look(aesthetically, that is) fantastic whether training or in a real match!!

I like the training stuff better than the match stuff. ;)
:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple: 4 the white kit.
