I'm sure scotthayes is as surprised as us all that a team with the class and verve of Wolves aren't topping the table at the moment. ;)

Meanwhile, I realised this morning that we're the only undefeated team in Premier League history. How about that then? :p

Ten minutes of stoppage time in the Man City-West Ham match! Pretty dreadful display from the Hammers, Mark Noble's first yellow card was a very stupid one, and he can only have himself to blame. They barely threatened the goal the entire match.

In MLS news, I made the 360-mile round trip last night to see the Columbus Crew pummel Real Salt Lake 3-0 at home. Good game with a good atmosphere, our supporters group was singing the whole game. For some reason the Crew gets no press, and yet we are top of the table in the east, and, barring injuries, have a very real shot at the league title this season.

I know it's only week 2 of the premiere league season, but Deco is looking very good indeed. I can see both Chelsea and Liverpool improving on last years' finishes.

Due in most part to Micah Richard's injury, I would imagine.

I can sympathise, your Lordship. It was only a couple of years ago we got no coverage or attention at all - we'd maybe get the scores announced on the local news if it was a slow news day, and an all too brief clip of our goals (if we scored any, of course) at the end of the league highlight show.

The other side of that coin is that I wasn't really prepared for the intensity of the media attention we're now getting. The national press is full of opinion and speculation about our chances and transfer targets and stuff, and it seems that ten minutes doesn't go by on Sky Sports News without either Phil Brown popping up or them showing our goals. I know too that film crews from as far afield as the States, Australia and the Far East have been tipping up at the stadium and our training ground to speak to the players and staff. After being ignored for so long by pretty much everyone it's just a complete information overload at the moment, and it really brings home just what huge interest there is in the Premier League around the world.

Of course, over the summer all the opinion pieces and reports would contain a phrase along the lines of 'less points than Derby', but curiously I've not heard that in the past seven days... :D

Yeah, I'll bet we'll continue to be ignored until we make it to the final. Strange considering we have several full internationals on our team. Our resident Argentinian, Schelotto, is embarrassing Beckham and the league by being the runaway leader in assists. I think the problem is that we have a strong team, very well balanced, but no "superstar" players for the media to fawn over. They'd rather watch Beckham and Landycakes lose games than see us win the league.

Keep up your current form, and you'll have surpassed their points total before summer's over.

I was pretty satisfied with the speed at which the pundits changed their tune after the Tigers' debut victory. The losses will come inevitably, but you've started the season with some momentum, and that should help carry the team through the rough patches.

I honestly can't believe the refereeing standard in Scotland right now!

Didn't see the match so can't comment, was it really that bad or the usual grumblings of the Old Firm that the referees are bias against their tribe? Still, proverbial 6-pointer next weekend!:D

Did anybody see Britain From The Air on BBC tonight, pictures of the Old Firm game were spectacular, thousands of bigoted supporters kept apart by just 10 policeman, with a stern word and some humor their only weapon. Wonder what went wrong in Manchester? Maybe it was the all day booze and presence of riot officers?

i had him on two different fantasy teams and he hasn't played a lick. i had to let him go...

I'm keeping the faith, though I had a crap weekend.

With last being so close, the performance of the big four are going to be scrutinized all that much more. United had just 5 points out of 9 to start last season and still won the title...but Chelsea are better this year.

Wolverhampton has a football team

And I'd get used to seeing Birmingham at the top if I was you lot. We are staying there all season and will be promoted by March :D

I hope Liverpool hangs on to Xabi Alonso...I've heard he's fallen out with Benitez over his absence from a Champion's League match last year due to the birth of his son...if that's true Benitez is doing the club a disservice by blackballing the Spaniard.

...but even if that isn't the reason it does seem we are swapping like for like by trying to replace Alonso with Barry. We'll be spending 36 million dollars to replace Alonso with a similar player who is roughly the same age.

Sounds stupid to me. Arsenal want Alonso - I prefer if they just bought Barry and brought this whole saga to a decisive end.

Looks like Berbatov, whose sulks now rival Anelka's, will finally make the move to Old Trafford within a day or two. He'll score a boatload of goals there.

EDIT: Just in case anyone cares, my real hometown team, the Cleveland City Stars, won the USL 2 Championship on Saturday. That's the third division of American football, which is probably equivalent to non-league football in England.;)

Congratulations indeed – so do they move up to USL 1 now?

I take it too that you can't gain promotion up the leagues in the same way as you can in other countries do the the MLS franchise system, so they couldn't potentially end up in the top flight?

Meanwhile, Andriy Shevchenko has completed his move back to AC Milan after passing a medical – and the Italian club are also apparently having Arsenal's Philippe Senderos in for a medical tomorrow...

Being an Arsenal fan i hope they buy Alonso, mainly because Cesc declared he would prefer to see him and i think they would make a great partnership in the center. Barry is priced too high for Arsene and he will not pay that much, especially since one of the bargaining pieces (Hoyte) was already sold.

I think Arsene really should start thinking about sticking his hand in his pocket before the transfer window shuts. Alonso would be a decent purchase, and Barry – as well as being a good player – would bring his leadership qualities into the mix. With so many young players making up the Arsenal team I think they need a couple of older, more experienced heads and Barry would fit the bill perfectly. Whether he can be bought at a price Arsenal find acceptable is of course another matter...

Nope - no promotion/relegation in US football. For business reasons I doubt it will happen for a very long time - if the popularity of the game raises to the point that TV money could provide a parachute payment, they might do it. But I'm sure the MLS clubs would be against it.

MLS is growing though, in the sense that they are adding a couple "expansion" teams.

I'd like to see promotion/relegation implemented but I'll bet that's at least 10-15 years away. It's easy to forget that MLS is just 12 years old.

Good riddance for Chelsea I imagine, and I didn't think Arsenal will be terribly upset to see Senderos go, but the Gunners' squad is looking very thin these days. Of all the clubs, Arsenal and Tottenham seem to have lost the most and gained the least during the transfer window.

Being a Liverpool fan, I hope you don't get him. ;)

There's still a while to go yet before the window closes, but both clubs could do with getting their respective fingers out.

I think Arsenal has a decent chance of signing Alonso, since rumor has it that he's unsettled, despite his popularity with the fans. The Barry saga is a factor, understandably.

If we do lose Alonso, Rick Parry, Benitez and Co. had better pull their fingers out, pay Villa what they're asking and get Barry. We can't afford to lose Alonso and not replace him.

I'm not sure what Juande Ramos' plan is but there's simply no way Spurs can afford to replace both Keane and Berbatov, regardless of money - I don't think two strikers of their quality are on the market anywhere.

To be fair to Ramos both players wanted out, and unless you're Sir Alex Ferguson you can't make unsettled players stay.

Of course at the other end of the spectrum we have Sunderland!

Very impressive against Tottenham and did well against a relatively flat Liverpool.

Roy Keane has worked wonders. I love his post-game interviews, very forthright and never sugarcoats it. He is the antithesis of Steve McLaren.
