Swansea City vs Cardiff City... I bet the South Wales Constabulary were delighted when that one came out of the hat. :p

"There is absolutely no truth to the rumours that my officers have put in requests to be relocated to Basra or Kandahar for the duration of the week beginning the 22nd of September", a visibly shaken Barbara Wilding, the Chief Constable of South Wales Police, told the gathered reporters in a hastily arranged press briefing earlier today.

:p

Jaffa, i have a radio link wednesday, do you have one you could share for the Tigers?

Obviously Paul is an avid reader of this thread and – spurred on by Brianstorm91's suggestion that he's the finest player to grace the English game – attempted to prove he's as good as Maradona.

Well, I hope you're proud of yourself Brianstorm91. Look what you made the lad go and do.

Sure am - go you Ruskies!

Of course he was only the best modern English player in an England shirt, as alliances don't allow me to like him as a Red Devil..

I'm not sure about radio links as I'm generally at the matches. There's also the problem that most broadcasters (such as the BBC) are only allowed to air live commentary in the UK as part of their deal with the Premier League. There's Hull City World, but that's a subsciption service.

You could try Googling KCFM, a local station that has commentary and may be accessible from the States. I'm on my iPhone in the pub having a pre-match pint so I'm not best placed to find a broadcaster I'm afraid, but I can certainly take a look later for future matches.

Oh yes. :p

A win today and we'll potentially be top. Just think - Hull City, officially the best team in England. The table doesn't lie, you know. ;)

My condolances Jaffa

Also thanks Defoe, the week I take you out of my fantasy team you only go and score twice. Come on crouch pick up your game.

Sorry Jaffa, I wanted a Wigan win but I didn't want to see Hull embarrassed.

When you recover, can you tell me whether Wigan played as well as the scoreline indicates. How good is the new guy Zaki?

Cripes. We're on our way home now, so a full match analysis will follow later.

What was the score again? I lost count towards the end... ;)

I doubt if it will make up for todays result, but perhaps Mr. Cake can comfort himself with the news that Hull have made a bid of £7 million for Frazier Campbell:

Auntie said:
Duffen told BBC Humberside: "We've put a £7m bid on the table to Manchester United.

"The complexities of their situation are that it depends on them getting one in, that one might well be Bulgarian."

"As I said all the way through the summer we need to be respectful of that and there's nothing I can do to force the situation.

"If they do bring someone in I want to be at the front of the queue and I will do whatever it takes to bring him to the football club."

"They'll be a lot of people alluding to the fact we've got carried away with ourselves. But I can absolutely guarantee that I'm here for the long term building the football club.

"And we are going to have to get braver in some of the things we do but it will never be at the cost of threatening the security and financial ability of the club long term."

Right, especially for you swiftaw...

Wigan performed well, as the scoreline suggests – and Zaki looks to be quite a useful acquisition for you. There were a few questions on the way out about whether his second goal crossed the line (it was one of those ones that hits the underside of the cross bar and bounces down and out) but our position in the East Stand afforded us an excellent view of it and it did indeed cross the line.

I think the two main problems we had this afternoon were that we afforded you way too much time on the ball, and secondly you were too strong and fast on the counter attack. In particular, with Gardner being out Wayne Brown stepped up to fill the gap in the centre of defence and he was absolutely skinned when it came to pace. He's not the fastest of players in the first place, mind, and this was exploited to the full. Couple all of this with us wasting some promising chances in front of goal and it all adds up to a pretty poor day in the office. I think we also really missed King (who couldn't play today as he's on loan from Wigan) and his ability to hold the ball up.

I think on balance the defeat was probably heavier than we deserved, but it's a timely and harsh reminder for us of the high level of performance we need to put in week in, week out. Hopefully a few lessons have been learned and we can come back with some more positive displays. I can accept losing to a better side on the day (as long as it's a fair loss, I don't like cheating), so I don't begrudge Wigan their win by any means.

Highlight of the afternoon
The light aircraft that spent a good portion of the match circling the KC with a big banner, advertising BT's current offer of free games on Setanta if you sign up to their broadband package. Of course, it was amusingly pointless them going to the expense and effort of doing this, seeing as how Hull is the only place in the UK where you can't get a BT phone line. :p

Lowlight of the afternoon
Away from the pitch, it was disappointing to see the number of people heading for the exits with ten minutes remaining. Granted, us coming back and recording a famous victory was looking a tad unlikely (I'd have settled for a point at this stage, myself ;)), but if there's one thing that really does annoy me it's people sidling out complaining when the team needs their support.

Great performance from Arsenal today against a capable Newcastle team that has already taken a point from ManU this season. If it wasn't for a number of great saves by Given (and a missed penalty decision on a RVP takedown in the area) it could have been 6 or 7.

Samir Nasri looks great, btw. Solid player.

This is one of my big bugbears in football. I have no idea how you can complain about spending that much money (as many fans do) and then leave early. It seems to be that at every club there is this paradoxical group of "glory supporters" who like to show how passionate they are by leaving early - that's how pissed they are. I'm ashamed to say that Boro' fans are some of the worst - a bizarre set of circumstances particularly in light of our yo-yoing history.

On the note of your defeat Jaffa Cake, I think your team can take it. We did a few years ago (losing 5-1 to Villa at home; that was when the supporter threw his season ticket at Mclaren) but your win against Bolton showed enough promise. Plus your boss is from the Big Sam school of football managing - a positive sign methinks.:)

Fulham, fella – Fulham. ;)

I'm not looking forward to Match of the Day tonight. Mark Lawrenson may actually achieve orgasm on screen describing our performance...

Well ... they wear black and white and their team's and bag of .. :p

I keep on getting increasingly perplexed by Lawro. Last year, his BBC predictions had us relegated by about March. This season, we're the cat's pyjamas.

Just remember the fact that how knows nothing, and suddenly all the pieces slot into place.

Actually, it had better not be him and Princess Shearer on MOTD tonight. I don't think I could take the overbearing smugness of those two...

Unlucky!

Well, Lawro looked disinterested throughout the programme. It was mainly the Alan and Gary show.

Just some impressions from the highlights...

1) I like the way we look. Having a right winger in Aliadiere improves our team so much. Nice FK by Alves too.:p

2) Hull, Blackburn and Everton unlucky to lose by those margins. I think Hull need some quicker defenders (I quite liked Fitz Hall when he was at Palace), Everton need some guile and decent defending. Blackburn's last goal they conceded was farcical tho'...

3) West Brom need a "Kenwyne Jones" buy - a lucky striker buy who'll score 15 goals for them.

Yeah, we were supposed to be interested in the amusingly nicknamed 'One Size' last season, but nothing came of it...

Turner and Gardener looked a promising pairing in our first two games, but with the latter out today I was a bit concerned about Brown's (in particular) lack of pace prior to the game – and as a defensive unit we were slow. Maybe all the charity facial hair our players are sporting provided a degree of drag and slowed them down a bit? Anyway, we'll see how we'll do with Paul McShane, the young central defender we've signed on loan today from Maplins Holiday Camp.

The other thing today highlighted was how you can go squandering chances – Wigan only had five shots on target, yet ended up with five goals on the scoreboard. Clinical finishing is a must.

Oh, and by the way MOTD – I realise that as part of the BBC's remit you have to give mention to minority sports, but there's no need to carp on about rugby league when we're on, okay? :p
