his natural instinct is to shoot whenever he's in the box.
:eek::D

Those knuckleheads at Fox Soccer Channel showed all of the Premier League scores at halftime , so now I know Liverpool somehow beat Man United!

...need to go read the match reports.

Congrats Jaffa, you now have twice as many wins as Derby had last year. :)

EDIT:
King had a great finish in that second goal. I thought Hull sat back a bit too far after going up 2-0 though, they allowed Newcastle a lot of space. Total madness from Guthrie; a stupid, stupid foul and a deserved red card.

Good win for Hull.

Here's a question though. I know they want to show off their dark gray away kit, but why choose Newcastle to do it - there's not much difference between dark gray and black/white.

Edit: It turns out they had to borrow some white shorts from Newcastle - the ref wouldn't let them play in all dark gray

See above, the shorts were actually Newcastle's

That's hilarious! If Hull played in all gray it would have been near impossible to tell them apart.

Good to see that Babel scored the winner for Liverpool - he deserves more playing time...still waiting for that first Robbie Keane goal though.

In other news, did the Agbonlahor saga get much treatment over there? I'm so proud to have him as my Fantasy Striker™. Two hat tricks in one day is pretty impressive. (One local broadcaster called him Gabriel I-banged-a-whore.)

Umm, think you're a little confused. Adebayor of Arsenal scored a hattrick on the pitch today, Agbonlahor of Aston Villa scored a hattrick off the pitch.

Marlon King is a legend :) Danny Gutherie is a good upcoming player but I have always said that he is very dodgy on the challenges he chooses to go into and how he goes into them.

In regrads to the Liverpool vs Man U match Man U caught Liverpool asleep for the first goal. The second goal was just a huge cock up by Van Der Sar. The third goal was brilliant persistnance by Mascherano and good cut back by Kuyt, quite lucky finish by Babel but they all count.

Vidic deserved to get sent off, his first yellow was almost a red card offense in itself. The second yellow was deserved as well and was quite silly. The ref had no choice not to send him off.

Great pun Jaffa :D

Yes, a problem so far has been that we've given our opposition too much space. Something for Brown to address, methinks.

swiftaw – the problem is our usual black and amber striped kits would clash as well, given the amount of black on them. It's rumoured that we've kept last season's all white away kit as a third choice should it be needed, but then that wouldn't have helped much today either. :p

I strongly suspect the shorts and socks the team wore today were last season's. We'll see later.

I thought he was referring to Agbonlahor's hat-trick on the opening day of the season.

EDIT: Sorry swiftaw, I missed your earlier post about the shorts. Photographic proof here, too – those are indeed Geordie garments King is sporting...

Robinho makes a dream start, curling in a free kick from just outside the box.

On a personal note, so glad I brought Adebayor into my fantasy team this week to replace the (supposedly) injured Torres

I wonder if Hull will be asking to keep their lucky Geordie shorts. :D

EDIT: My fantasy team is an unmitigated disaster. I have nine points on the weekend so far. nine.

John Terry at his best:

The whole match is now being shown on Sky, so me and Miss Jaffa Cake have tuned in. It's just started, so we're looking forward to seeing exactly how we defeated the Toon.

In their stadium, in front of a 50,000 crowd.

And wearing their keks. :D

Very good win for Hull it has to be said.

Another good win down at Brisbane Road, now apparently known as the Matchstick Stadium or something :p

(Clue: It wasn't a good win for Orient :))

Splendid. The Metropolitan County of Greater Manchester's finest give those pesky cockneys what for. Note that Manchester City got whooped by Southerners today, I think this proves where the real power lies in the North-West.

Well, we've seen the game and a couple of observations... Turner's goal looked fine to us (the only problem seemed to be that Given was knocked over by one of his own players – and that cost my fantasy team six points, your Lordship ;)), but in saying that our penalty looked a bit soft so I suppose you could argue that those two decisions balanced one another out.

Oh, and with his facial fuzz and bulging eyes Phil Brown is starting to increasingly look like House...

you were right Jaffa – mauled by the Tigers, I’m sure you (quite rightly) enjoyed it!

Or as my mate* (Hull season ticket holder who was at the game who enjoyed ringing me last night – half hour gloat) put it that you are still in the running for the Champions League!

Looks like the circus is facing a relegation battle.

I’ve heard (unsubstantiated) that Denis Wise’s mate Poyet will be named manager on Wednesday.

*a long wait and much pish taking ahead methinks before revenge can be sought – March 14th at the KC.

The appointment of Wise's cronie-in-chief wouldn't do much to appease the disgruntled masses, that's for sure.

However, I read today that Ashley has decided to sell up – obviously this may well mean that a decision on a permanent manager will be delayed until a takeover is completed. Mind, Ashley hasn't exactly done much of late to make Newcastle look like an attractive investment, has he?

You can read his full statement here, by the way.

Oh, and as an aside – it was quite, quite fantastic to watch Mark Lawrenson being forced to grudgingly admit how ace we are live on national telly. Heh. :D

I finally got to see at least the highlights of the Liverpool - Man U match, and Kuyt had three solid sniffs at goal that came to nothing. He should have put at least one of those away, and the score could have been 3-1 or even 4-1.

Riera looked very sharp, and Xabi Alonso's performances have been demonstrating that, on form at least, we have no need for Barry. Babel is a great player and Keane needs to keep playing so he can (hopefully) settle in and start scoring.

Comedy defending from United (how often do you hear that!), and a shocking foul by Vidic. His absence will be felt against Chelsea, and, even more importantly, I'll miss him from my shambles of a fantasy squad.:D

EDIT: Ashley makes it sound like the fans were up in arms about transfer stinginess above all, but most of the anger seems focused on Keegan's power struggle with Wise. So Ashley seems to be missing the point somewhat, though I do agree with him that additional protests seem superfluous at this point if he's truly committed to selling.

yep, rather than face a decision regarding the role of Wise, he’s decided to run away because his toy is broken. No doubt he’ll be wanting a huge profit to go.

That statement put out is wrong in so many ways, but one thing is for sure, more turmoil ahead. The joys of being a football fan!

EDIT: Craig Fagan had his leg broken on saturday. More disgrace. LINK to BBC report

...And NUFC have fired Shearer.

Apparently the club is in contact with Dubai investments trying to negotiate a sale, but at this point who's willing to touch it?

Apparently they aren't. Who really knows what is going on but as an investment Newcastle is one I would stay the hell away from.

Agreed. Eventually things will settle down to a point where Ashley will either get his deal or be forced into that fire sale by global economic conditions. But in the meantime, it is a very bad investment.

I think the 800-pound gorilla in the room at this point is, how long will Wise remain at the club? The fans hate him as much as Ashley, more if possible.

...Shame about Fagan, Hull are doing very well so far but they cannot afford injuries. Hopefully Guthrie has learned something from this.

Agreed. Eventually things will settle down to a point where Ashley will either get his deal or be forced into that fire sale by global economic conditions. But in the meantime, it is a very bad investment.

Not a bad financial investment for Ashley so far, he invested a lot of money in buying NUFC (£230m+ which he can get back if sells and he’s asking for £350m+, MCFC was bought for £220m but don’t own their ground unlike NUFC), but he has not invested anything in the team (Net) after 3 transfer windows.

He has stated that after buying the club he wants to put in £20m a year of his own money, which he has not done yet. A conservative estimate of £100m revenue a year goes in to the club which has not been invested in new players (8 players were offloaded at the start of the transfer window + Milner sale covers the cost of incoming players) so where has it gone? On transfer deadline day they tried to sell Alan Smith, Michael Owen and Joey Barton after selling James Milner for £12m, all without the consent of Keegan.

Bear in mind Ashley has taken extra money this season as he has hiked up season tickets – unless you purchased 3 years in advance which 15,000 have (imagine the pain these fans are going through). Ashley said “Don't get me wrong. I did not buy Newcastle to make money”.... “This will not be a fire sale” – we shall see.

He ripped off his the stock exchange for £900m (Sports Direct) and £300m (Adidas) recently so is cash rich and not vulnerable to the credit crunch, unlike MUFC and LFC, etc.

The financial dealings are not the cause for the fans revolt.

Indeed, not good news about Fagan. It was disgraceful behaviour by Guthrie, who had already lunged in recklessly on our weasel-faced winger about ten seconds before the 'challenge' which earned him a red card. I'd like to think that the three game ban he now faces will be extended when the incident is reviewed by the FA, but I won't go holding my breath or owt.

Fagan was just starting to come into some good form and prove his doubters wrong – he was shaking off an injury when he arrived back in Hull at the back-end of last season so he wasn't at his best, but he's been one of our better larkers so far this term. At least it appears that it's a hairline fracture and not a more severe break, but six weeks covers a lot of vital games for us.
