Steady on... I would have thought the mauling you suffered at our hands would have quashed such lofty ambitions, but apparently not.

are you suggesting that NUFC aren’t going to be in the Champions League next season, OMG, what makes you think that?!

Good confidence builder for Spurs last night, but oh dear, is that their new tactics? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Yet another shocking howler from Steven Taylor last night and he’s the first choice centre half for England U21’s, the future is indeed bleak.

Croatia's FA has been fined 15,000 pounds by FIFA for the racist chants directed at Heskey during the England Croatia friendly.

I'm sure a fine of that amount will demonstrate to a country with a long history of racism and intolerance that this sort of behavior will not be tolerated and they'd better shape up immediately.

yeh, won’t exactly make a big dent in that cheque for £5m the Croatian FA got for that one match from Sentanta alone.

It’s like that £25,000 fine MUFC got for 7 yellow cards!

At least you can still take it to Hull. :D
You're having a laugh now, aren't you? :p

On the subject of Newcastle, Sky Sports News are reporting tonight that Terry Venables has turned down their approach to become their new boss. Newcastle's boss I mean, not Sky Sports News. That would be silly.

So, where does Mike Ashley turn now, at least until he can organise the sale of the club? I've heard mention of Glen Hoddle and George Graham...

I'm considering sending them a copy of my CV. Obviously after I've rewritten it to highlight my successful, and extensive, management career with Championship Manager (including Italia!) and Football Manager.

I reckon it'd be worth a punt!

Go for it. If you get the job, can I be your assistant? I too have plenty of CM/FM experience, and as a northerner my presence may help placate the hostile Geordie masses a little while we turn the team's fortunes around. Ace. :)

Plus, if I need a jacket with 'JC' on I'm sure they've got an old one of Jack Charlton's knocking around, so I'll save them a bob or two there. Sort it out, Ashley.

Hey, JC, are you aware that Dean Windass has a blog on itv.com?

He says he is meeting the gaffer this week to determine if he has a role at the club.
Indeed. We weren't in our normal East Stand seats on Saturday (my Uncle Slagroomtaart – an Everton supporter – had come over from the Netherlands so he and Pa Cake had our season passes), and were instead sat in the upper tier of the West Stand (the stand where all the posh lot sit). Just before kick off, a club type led a besuited Deano, along with Nick Barmby and Ryan France up the steps next to us to take his seat to watch the game. He passed only about five feet away from me and he did not look happy at all to be watching the game from the stands, to put it mildly.

Also, Miss Jaffa Cake was struck by how small Nick Barmby is. :p

I've got one and a half seasons managing my fantasy team under my belt, so I'm in with a shout for Newcastle. How hard could it be? :D

The only manager that would be willing to take this job on now is either someone who has won everything in their career and has nothing to prove, or a total unknown with high ambitions. The former is too smart to take the job and the latter would be an extreme risk.

I wonder if they will find a new manager before selling the club? I imagine that any prospective owner would prefer to choose their own gaffer.

I've seen that one before, that's CLASSIC! :D

I remember one of my most famous plays from when I played soccer, abck in the dark ages. I was the keeper (We Americans tend to be keepers for some reason), and punched a cross into the ref's face. we all got a laugh out of that...

Didn't cross the line. Sorry. :p

Hmm... so maybe if they look for, I don't know, a player who's coming towards the end of his career but still has an appetite for the game, who has his coaching badges and has said he'd like to become a manager in the future, who maybe is a little disgruntled with his current club and has publicly stated he feels he may have to move on?

I'm here for my interview, Mr Ashley! :D

Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins will be out for six weeks after suffering a severe reaction to his knee injury after playing against Spurs on Wednesday.

Loan midfielder Ignacio Gonzalez has been ruled out until February with an Achilles problem.

according to the Sun/Times.

The bottom line is that West Ham should have been relegated. Period. So any compensation can hardly make up for the fact that Sheffield United got unjustly relegated. Still, they deserve a big hunk of cash as compensation, and if it hurts West Ham, at least they are still in the Premiership.

I have been thinking about this issue and I think Sheffield United's claim is a bit far.

The ONLY reason why Sheffield Untied got relegated was because they didn't win enough games. It was still in there hands for the last game of the season. It is impossible to say that if West Ham didn't have Tevez they would've gone down. Especially considering Tevez was actually crap at West Ham. Now to bring legal action over this claiming that this is indeed the case is impossible to prove.

This case has been dragging on for so long now it is beyond ridiculous and given the fact that this has held over West Ham for one transfer window already and clearly affected their spending and will do so next time around no matter what the club say it is surely time to put it to rest. If Sheffield United to get back in the Premiership they should do it on the pitch and not try and money grab. They only finished 9th the following season and are currently down in 15th 11 points adrift of the leaders.

Further more the reports today that the Sheffield United Players may sue is just further ludicrousness. If they had done their job they would still be in the premiership either with Sheffield United or been bought by another premiership team.

Having lived in Sheffield the past 5 years (although recently moved from there). Everyone is so tired and I think the only people that actually care now are McCabe and the players who are planning on suing. Granted they have more reason than most to care (money) but still get over it. And to hear Warnock complaining about it for the billionth time on the radio the other day is just so tiresome.

I'm beginning to agree with this.

If anything they should be claiming against the Premier league/F.A., as it was their decision not to dock West Ham points and fine them £5.5 million instead.

It shouldn't have gone any further than that.

Joe F***ng Kinnear, don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Desperation of the highest order. The new crazy gang in the big circus.

And Mike Ashley thinks this will help him get buyers, oh dear.

New NUFC theme tune trailer

Good points. I think they are taking it too far, but I also think that West Ham knowingly broke the rules by signing Tevez and Mascherano, and that Sheffield's season was more directly impacted by that than any club's (besides West Ham itself).

At the least, West Ham should be punished because I believe that Tevez kept them up. The 5.5 million they were docked is a mere slap on the wrist. Sheffield, in my opinion, should be entitled to something but they are trying to squeeze a lot more than they deserve.

It's all a mess and ultimately the league, clubs, and fans are placed in this position because a few people knowingly ignored the rules.

And Mike Ashley thinks this will help him get buyers, oh dear.

That isn't even the scary part as I see it. Kinnear mentioned that he thinks Keegan and Shearer are waiting in the wings to step back into the club when the new owners sew up a deal. In my mind, Keegan is not the answer for NUFC and if he returns things will not get better.

Tevez didn't impact on Sheffield United that much, Sheffield United are claiming far too much more impact than actually happened. If Tevez scored a winning goal in that much they it would be more convincing.

West Ham were given a record £5.5million fine.

If you can argue that it impacted on Sheffield you can argue that it also impacted on Charlton as had West Ham not got those 3 points against Manchester United then they would've felt they were still in with a chance.

The whole NUFC circus is a joke. The way that this is being handled by the club is driving the price down. If this drags on for any longer I can honestly see them being relegated this season. I said at the beginning of the season they will finish lower than Middlesborough and that would be a disaster for the fans but it could end up worse.

True.

I'm beginning to think they might truly get relegated...for one thing, the promoted clubs are doing, as a whole, better than expected (especially our dear Hull City). For another thing, Newcastle's form right now is arguably the worst in the league. Add to that the fact that they have some major long-term injury problems. Finally, the manager situation is still a shambles, Ashley is a dunce, and nobody knows anything about the prospective owners...

I heard someone wonder the other day about whether Newcastle might go the way of Leeds United, collapsing in every possible way and disappearing from the international scene. It's looking more likely every day right now.
