Everything is rosy. Bring on the Chelsea United draw.

So the long throw-in didn't work today???

More of a shock than Liverpool drawing with Stoke is Birmingham losing to Blackpool. And to top it off, Wolves are now clear at the top. Queue gloating from OllyW

Guessing you read the thread title but not one of the nearly 1300 posts... Wrong type of football

Watching LA Galaxy play DC United...a must-win for both teams to keep their seasons alive. Even by the somewhat modest standards of the MLS it's a terrible game.

But it's fun to watch the heavily-hyped Galaxy go behind after just 70 seconds. God they are woeful. Beckham must hate himself...

...I cannot wait until Columbus play the Galaxy next month. We will crush them.

10p? That's the cheapest bag of chips er, crisps, I've ever seen.

United just got lucky - should have given up a penalty.

Wise words from Deano...if he were a ref I'll bet Terry would think twice before getting in his face.

Up the CREW!!

Up the CREW!!

That's right!

Somebody forgot to tell Manchester United about the new "respect" campaign...seven, count 'em, seven yellow cards for United (Chelski picked up one).

Chelsea should have won, they had better posession but Anelka missed two clear chances, and Joe Cole also failed to put it away twice when through on goal...Anelka had a poor game, and both Ronaldo and Berbatov were kept pretty quiet.

Gary Neville is finished, he was totally blown away on the left by Anelka and all his tackles were late.

A draw was the best possible result - limit the points for these two.

EDIT: Condolences to Jaffa for the draw...so close to another vital three points!...but still playing well above expectations. A draw against Everton is still a good result.

What on earth happened to Pompey?

Hmm... we didn't think their first goal crossed the line and Sky apparently agree. I'm looking forward to seeing a replay or two when I get home. But now I'm in the pub, so replays will have to wait. ;)

At least it was in the goal rather than the rather odd curious case of the Watford game at the weekend. Despite the players / crowd rnot eacting the linesman though he was the only person in the stadium who saw the ball cross the line  (sorry for the crappy video feed with the silly add at the begining), even though a.) it didn't b.) it was wide of the goal.

In the case of the Liverpool goal that is yet another cock up as a.) the player didn't touch the ball b.) was interferring c.) wasn't even offside.

Liverpool would be happy with a win over stoke and a draw with United so the 4 points from these games is essentially the same (keeps repeating to self ).

When you put it that way it actually sounds very depressing. :(

I sense that Liverpool's time is yet to come...we'll be fighting for fourth with Man City before we fight for the title. I'm worried that Liverpool will be one of the big losers in this new era of multi-billionaire ownership. We can't keep up with the top spenders, and we don't have Arsenal's new stadium income and wage structure plus an Arsene Wenger to find talent.

EDIT: Apparently Watford and Reading are going to replay the match...

Hmm, no replay. I wonder if the FA would take a different line had it been a cup final or playoff game? They'd get crucified otherwise.

Would set a dangerous precedent. Managers would call for a replay every time a game didn't go their way because a player was sent off harshly, penalty given etc. I think it's time for video evidence to be introduced.

Similar situation happened a few years ago, I think it was a Raith Rovers game. The ball hit the roof of the net under the crossbar, the ball bounced back out, the defender thinking the goal had rightfully been given picked up the ball, the ref waved play on (despite the defender holding the ball) so he threw it down and kicked it away. No goal or penalty given.

EDIT: It was Partick vs Dundee United

Had the FA installed the Hawk-Eye system to check whether the ball crosses the line, these "phantom goal" incidents would never happen. And I don't think that would intrude on the game overmuch.

Indeed – it's a potentially slippery slope.

Meanwhile, there are reports tonight that Mike Ashley is in talks with a Nigerian consortium about a possible sale of Newcastle United. I do hope he's not fallen prey to one of those dodgy Nigerian scam emails... :D

The offer reads as follows:

"Dearest Friend in Christ,

I have recently come into an inheritance but the only way I can claim it is by you selling me your football team and me using that purchase to prove that I am fiscally able to maintain any type of wealth and or prosperity.

Please send your passport and bank account information and pin number as soon as possible.

Our Saviour died for us and I am praying for you brother,
Ahmed Ambigouyway"

-------

As you can see it is a pretty firm offer.

I quite like the Hawk-Eye in the tennis, thinks it adds a bit of excitement and it only takes 5 seconds (a lot less time than the ref being surrounded by players shouting and pushing).

Love the e-mail pachyderm!

plus an Arsene Wenger to find talent.

You mean an Arsene to not spend any money just so he can be the martyr. Granted Arsene does find young talent but Benitez does buy a lot of youngsters and is building up the young teams, it does take quite a long time to build it up properly.

I remember a good few years ago now when Arsenal had to replay a match due to their unsportsmanship. The situation was a little like this:

Injured player team kicks ball of the pitch
Arsenal take throw in, the other team expects the ball back but Arsenal runs up the other end and scores.

There is not technical error with what they did but in the end the game was replayed.

Might have been in a cup but that is still beside the point I feel. I imagine this would fall under a technical error much like that penalty incident in the Uzbekistan match.

I'm not so sure because part of what makes football great is the controversy, although some teams take it too far guess the backlash will continue for a little while yet.

Indeed very funny.

I'm sorry but the two aren't really comparable. Benitez hasn't brought through players of the calibre of Viera, Fabregas, Clichy etc. for next to nothing. I don't know how you come to the conclusion he is a martyr - he may well not have the money to spend. And he certainly doesn't have the levels of money to spend like United/Chelsea/Man City - and even Liverpool to an extent. No way we could afford to spend that much on Keane. Indeed, this summer we wanted Alonso, but Arsene wouldn't meet an asking price of £16 million or so. He had a value for the player in mind and wouldn't go over that.

Unsportmanship - Kanu didn't understand the rules of the game. He took the throw in and didn't realise the play had to stop. You've also said Arsenal "had" to replay a game due to their unsportmanship. No - the FA didn't make the game be replayed. Arsenal offered to replay the game, as it was a genuine mistake.
