Wow. What an upset! Still, Liverpool could easily have suffered a similar fate last week with that draw against Stoke. I think Arsenal had been playing a bit better though, so I didn't expect this at all.

Whatever happens the rest of the season, Hull have confounded the pundits who predicted they had no chance...

EDIT: watched the highlights on the Man U match...you people are not exaggerating, that has to be one of the worst calls I've ever seen in a Premier League game. Ronaldo always goes to ground easily, so Rob Styles should be wise to that by now. He was tackled, but it was a well-timed tackle, totally legit. Horrible call.

Respect? Ha!

Sorry, but Ronaldo has very little part to play in winning that Penalty aside from running into the box with the ball. The lads tackle is perfectly timed, but he does get Ronaldo's foot in between his legs. Thats what happens when you tackle, it was a perfectly fine challenge but Ronaldo has no control over his fall to the ground. He didn't appeal, no one did.

I don't know about Wendies highlights - I just Googled 'Arsenal Hull highlights' to find those. The fact that it's Premier League (and more to the point Arsenal) would make finding highlights easier, I would imagine.

How long will Juande Ramos last? I personally thought Spurs made the wrong decsion getting rid of Jol last year but 2 points from 6 games is pretty dire. I think if Spurs stick with Ramos then I believe they will come out of this lull but surely there will be some pretty serious questions asked behind the doors at Whitehart lane.

Yep, I still can’t get my head around the Jol sacking, thought he was doing a good job and he just needed backing with a couple of defenders. They were a good footballing team then, but now are dire to watch with that one man up front formation.

Hats off to Hull City – wow what a result. I did LOL when Wenger threw his rattle off the ground towards the end of the game on MOTD.

True. Everyone just stood, shocked that a penalty had been given. Did any of look at Martin Samuel's article in the Times (scroll down a bit to get to it)? He accuses Fergie of pressuring Style before the match with his comments about Bolton's physical play. It is true that Fergie's silence after this has been deafening...especially compared to the FA cup tie with Pompey last season.

Next up for Spurs – the mighty Tigers, at White Hart Lane.

Given that we're undefeated away from home – and that we've just defeated Arsenal at their place*– when we take on this struggling team at the bottom of the table I can't predict anything other than a resounding victory for Tottenham.

If only!

If a ref at the top football level in the world can't dismiss a few pre-match words he hasn't got the qualities to be a top level official. Simple as.

I agree. But the "respect" campaign is, interestingly, highlighting the refereeing side of the equation as much as the players' behavior. Still seeing horror-challenges though I wonder if the respect campaign will result in any changes in the way the game is called....I know Platini is totally against any "intrusion" of technology into the game, but in the case of a penalty kick or red card incident, it would take just seconds for the fourth official to look at a replay. and Hawk-Eye would prevent any "phantom goal" incident. A lot of details would have to be worked out, but I say that it should be possible to use replays and goal line sensors in such a way that the play is not negatively effected.

I would only go for technology regarding whether or not the ball has crossed the line. So many things that happen on the football pitch are a matter of opinion – penalty decisions and offsides, for example – and I think it's important that such matters are left up to the judgement of the officials. Of course, they don't get it right all the time (okay, they hardly seem to get it right at all ;)) but for me that's part of the charm of the game. And after all, if technology meant that every decision was 100% correct then we'd have a lot less to talk about, wouldn't we?

However, the question of whether a goal has been scored or not is a different matter. There's no grey area here, it's either in or it isn't and it's such a fundamental thing the officials have to get it right.

As an aside, I was amused ever so slightly by this headline. Bless. :p

There certainly is a much stronger argument for goal line tech than the other stuff. And don't get me wrong - I don't want to turn the game into something like NFL throwball, with 15 seconds of play and then the 30 seconds of stoppage, interspersed with commercials (and halftime), played over 3 hours.:rolleyes:

I watched part of the Man U - Aalborg tie yesterday...not much to see...Aalborg did well for 20 minutes or so and then it was mostly United, though Aalborg could have scored on the break a couple times. Raphael looked very dangerous in the attack.

C. Ronaldo seemed to have even more product in his hair than normal yesterday, which is saying something.:D

A little something that I enjoyed reading today... the odious little excuse of a man that is David Mellor published his thoughts on our promotion in his Evening Standard column – and he was even more disparaging than most about us...

"...on an honest view they'll be lucky to get as many points as Derby did. Once you cut through the inevitable sentimentality about a small club's triumph, the truth is the Premier League as an internationally credible competition is damaged by such promotions. If the Championship can't throw up more credible candidates than Hull, then perhaps we should go back to two-up two-down again."

Well, I was delighted to read that he's eating humble pie, by today issuing a public apology for his comments...

"Last summer, I wrote disrespectfully about Hull's promotion to the Premier League. It is time to apologise.

To beat Arsenal at The Emirates is a formidable achievement. But they've done more than that, winning three and drawing two of their first six matches. And they are still unbeaten on the road.

No doubt tough times lie ahead and it may yet all end in tears but already Hull have justified their place in the top flight. Derby County they ain't."

Thank you, David. Apology accepted. However, you're still an odious little excuse of a man. :p

Up the Reds!

Keane finally opens his account, Gerrard gets his 100th goal with a trademark (fantastic) long-range freekick...to be fair, PSV didn't really show up at Anfield today.

Bring on the next leg.

Look at it this way Jaffa...next year, people will still be predicting a poor showing from Hull...except this time they will be taking about European competition. :D

Meanwhile, Chelsea drew 0-0 away at Romanian new-boys CFR Cluj, a match many people had them tipped to dominate.

Maybe Scolari should have employed better use of wingers to get the ball into the box from the flanks? After all, I can only think of one other famous Transylvanian and he was noted for not liking crosses. :D

Joe Kinnear, #### #### #### #### #### #### #### #### #### That about sums up his press conference. If you are at work then perhaps this page might not be the best on to look at as it contains a lot of swearing.

Obviously annoyed but also it is quite a clear obvious diversionary tactic after all this will mean we are talking about the press conference rather than Newcastle not winning any games.

Well, 2-2 at home was never really good enough... :(

I don't quite know if firing Moyes/not forcing Moyes to sign the extention is the best answer to the poor season start, though...for one: who would/could/should they bring in to replace him? I don't really see any better options "out there", that would go to Everton, that is...any suggestions?

Well, it Arsenal returned to winning ways last night with a 4-0 demolition of FC Porto.

The Gunners played very well, so much so that at times it was a bit like watching City. :D

I was at that match, about 4 seats and an aisle away from the Porto fans.
They were so loud and passionate, they were all I could here until we scored. At 2-0 up you could barely here a peep out of them :D

It's just a pity you can't generate the same level of noise when you're playing, shall we say, less glamourous opposition and you aren't winning. ;)

And yes, the 'temper-temper award of the week' must surely go to Joe Kinnear. It strikes me that the Newcastle job and a dicky heart might not be the best combination...

most Newcastle fans referred to Kinnear as JFK (Joe F***ing Kinnear) on his arrival because of the shock of his appointment, now its for an entirely different reason! – way to go Joe!

London based media are f******* c***s, not exactly a shocker but they all ran the interview in astonishment, WTF.
