but we're all Wednesday aren't we? :D
They're South Yorkshire's finest I'll grant you, but we all know the East Riding is bestest. ;)

Sounds like a great atmosphere but some of the "mauling" looks a little bit camp. :p
Ah, but that's the idea. :D

The best thing about it is the looks the opposition support give you. Complete and utter bewilderment, without exception. :p

there is some irony that Martin Jol is manager of Hamburg SV who are now top of the Bundesliga, ouch that must hurt!

What a come back from Liverpool. Skrtel looks like he will be out for a while, hopefully Agger will come back into the main team.

Tottenham

Seriously though I think Poyet did a good job in the post match interview for Match of the Day. Poyet may be the one to step in after next week if Spurs loose again.

Hull what is there to say that hasn't already been said. They fully deserve to be in the Premiership next season. What do you think the chances that Giovanni will still be at Hull come the close of the transfer window in January. The complete opposite to Rangers last season they have come out with a winning attitude and have won hearts rather than making enemies.

Newcastle rescued a good point against Everton. I think this might bring some confidence back into the team. If the points engine is still running then they could well come out of this rut.

Funnily enough, quite a few of our players have said similar things in recent years. The two who immediately spring to mind are Jay Jay Okocha and Saint Stuart Elliott. However, I suspect something is getting lost in translation and what they're all really saying is "God knows why I came to Hull!" :D

I have no problem with them saying/believing that.

This is what I have been waiting for. Some good players to go to a lesser team and help them win. That they say that or believe that is wonderful!!
I'm so tired of all the stars being so arrogant that they won't go to lesser sides because they don't have a chance to win or make enough money.

UP YOU AMBER ANGELS!!!

Hull are doomed!

Phil Brown has been awarded the dreaded 'Manager of the Month', so I expect them to lose their next five matches.

Pah! We have no such fear. Overturning convention and defying expectation are our speciality, after all. We've already won our first game of October, and I'll bet anyone a box of Jaffa Cakes (proper McVities ones too, mind) that Hull City won't be beaten this weekend either. ;)

Anyway, I might be a bit biased but I think our sunbed loving supremo richly deserves this award - he's masterminded some famous victories for us last month, and still found the time to grow a remarkably impressive goatee as well. He's an inspiration to us all...

EDIT: Plus, as a bit of a bonus, Geovanni's splendid strike against Arsenal was also voted Match of the Day's goal of the month for September. Good stuff.

Well, it looks like the "Why can't Gerrard and Lampard play together?" argument continues....as does the "Why are England only useful with a 4-4-2?" debate.

Meanwhile, the USA are playing pretty poorly against Cuba as the first half draws to a close. USA up 2-1 but we should never have conceded the goal (admittedly a smart long-range strike that went in off the bar).

Gerrard and Lampard seemed to have been given a lot of freedom to roam about last night, a luxury they're not going to be allowed against better quality opposition. Our midfield looked too packed, at times players were getting in each other's way.

Away from the pitch, I wasn't happy to hear players once again being booed during the game. Granted, (A) Cole made an error which gave the Kazakhstanis their goalscoring opportunity (and granted he's an odious little man) but laying into players and destroying their confidence further achieves nothing. I note the booing stopped and the crowd started cheering the team on once we started getting a few goals...

EDIT: Looks like everything turned out okay in the end for your boys, your Lordship – 6-1 in the end.

It's dangerous to make absolute statements, but I'm inclined to think that if Fabio Capello can't get Lampard and Gerrard to play effectively together, it can't be done. Which is fine - one starts on the bench from now on.

I agree, it does no good to boo players after a mistake like that. What they need is more support.

Should have been 10-1. But it's like playing Andorra - semi-pro and amateur players packing the box. I wasn't happy with the performance in the first half, but we wore them down in the second...the road to South Africa rolls onward!

Moyes have finally signed.

Hopefully this will help turn things around after the p...ee poor season start...

I wonder what took him so long. Holding out for more money? Eyes elsewhere?

Uefa have decided to punish Liverpool fans in their effort to punish Althetico Madrid. What a joke. They have had a long time to decide this punishment and can even delay it for future games but so close to the match it only really hurts the Liverpool fans. Granted it will help take away the atmosphere and local support for Athelico but this is just silly. Given that there is still time for appeal the plans are no where near final. I think Uefa should reverse the decision and delay the punsihment to allow for travelling fans to make proper aarrangments.

Barca to launch MLS franchise bid

Spanish club Barcelona are set to launch a bid with a Bolivian entrepreneur to become co-owners of a Major League Soccer franchise in Miami.
.

Interesting, wonder how this will develop.

I'm in total support of the footballing authorities punishing clubs in this manner where issues such as hooliganism and racist behaviour are concerned, but to take this action at such short notice when opposition supporters are coming from overseas is bang out of order. Once again, UEFA almost seem to be going out of their way to cause problems for English teams and their supporters.

Why not simply play the game at the original venue but exclude home supporters from attending? The surplus tickets can then be offered to Liverpool to give more of their supporters the opportunity to attend. Furthermore, Athletico should then be made to pay the proceeds of the gate to charity so they don't profit from it.

EDIT: It looks like UEFA may actually be seeing sense for once – Liverpool's match is now apparently likely to go ahead in Madrid.

Most likely either the ban will be postponed to a later date, or the game will be played at another stadium in the Spanish capital.

I hope the Athletico - Liverpool situation gets figured out. It sounds like a mess at the moment.

I'm all for it, and I wish current MLS clubs had closer relationships with clubs from top leagues worldwide. I think it's a realistic proposition to make MLS a creditable "feeder" league where skilled young players can be loaned from larger clubs to an MLS club so they can get playing time. This will increase the quality of the league while also growing the sport in the states.

I agree. A situation where a loaned player to the MLS gets so good that a top league takes him back would actually be a good problem to have!

I think it's a delicate balance. On the one hand, forging links with some of the bigger European clubs may result in some promising young talent arriving in the MLS, but if it goes too far you could end up with the MLS being regarded as little more than a feeder league.

Also, one potential problem with European clubs loaning players is that these clubs often have links in place with clubs in some of the smaller European leagues. They then park non-European players there for a couple of seasons to help them get a passport for said country, dodging the whole work permit malarky. If European clubs send, say, African or Asian players to the States then that's not going to help their young starlets get their passport.

Also, since the MLS season runs spring to fall, teams could yank their players in the middle of our season and teams would be left with major roster problems.

looks like there might be some interesting results this weekend judging by the amount of injuries going on:

injury league

It’s that time of year when squads are starting to be severely tested.
