Did anybody catch the Monday night game? The Saints beat the crap out of the Packers, much to my surprise.

We're in a tough division, and probably wont make the playoffs, but jeez. Brees is on pace to break Marino's single season passing record. I'm admittedly biased, but he's got to be at the top of the list for MVP this year.

Interesting debate today on ESPN First and 10. Should the Pats sign Cassel and cut Brady. Cassel will get a good deal next year from some team. Is Brady going to be 100%. Is it worth it for the Pats to hold on to Cassel.

Cut a future hall of famer in the prime of his career for a quarterback who has started just 11 games? Cassel is doing a pretty good job, sure. However, I'm still waiting for him to complete a pass over 20 yards.

The argument is what if Brady has played his best years and will be injury prone from here on out. Is it worth the risk to get rid of Cassel who could be the future of the team the way Brady was.

This is an interesting one. i don't know how I would answer this at the moment.

Off the top, I don't know if I would get rid of brady yet. I would see how he handles the come back. I don't know if I want to get rid of him at this point in his career... However I can see the other side of this argument also.

And boy the G-man took a beating last night. Straight beating!

Cassel isn't Brady. Not going to be. You think if you put Cassel on a team without Moss,Welker,Faulk and Gaffney he'd have the year he's having??
ESPN is obviously trying to stir the pot..Just like they did with all the "Brady's infection is getting worse","Brady may never play again","Brady may have to have his leg amputated." blah blah blah..
No way in hell the Pats would even entertain the thought of cutting a first ballot hall of famer. Even if Brady was 75% of his former self on opening day, that is better than most of the QB's in the league..Slow day at ESPN for sure...

What if Brady isn't Brady anymore. Do you want a fall back?

If Brady goes down next year and they let Cassel go, what do they do for a backup QB.

There's no way in hell the Pats would tie up over $20 million at the QB position.Which is what it would take to keep both. Most likely, they will franchise Cassel and get draft picks for him. And hopefully draft D heavy next year..

What are the Pats options for backup QB's next year. Do they have anyone in the system.

O'Connell will more than likely be the QB of the future. If for some reason the Pats do keep Cassel, then we'll know for sure that there's something seriously wrong with Brady. We'll know in the spring. This team needs to draft D heavy the next couple years. The defensive secondary is an area of concern.

Brady is one of the top 5 quarterbacks in NFL history and was the MVP of the league last year. There's no way he is going anywhere.

The Patriots will most likely franchise Cassel to keep him around one more year in case Brady isn't 100% recovered (It took McNabb and Palmer about 2 full years to get to pre-injury condition.)

Has the truth ever come out about his Super Bowl performance? Was he sick, was he nervous, was he fine, was he throwing the game???

Was Rush right, after all?
The whole team forgot how to play after that game.

More like throwing up in the game,as in upchucking..Honestly,I don't get the fascination with McNabb..He couldn't get it done when he had a top flight receiver, running game and solid defense behind him. Now,he's getting older and seems to be injured more often. Yet it's always the other guy's fault. The media seems to be hesitant to rip him..Eli was ripped mercilessly by the media week in and week in and out his entire career up until the middle of last year..

In other news, looks like Quinn is done for the year:
Sources: Quinn to miss rest of season
Browns quarterback Brady Quinn is done for the year after doctors revealed that the break to his right index finger has gotten worse since he's tried to play through the injury, sources told FOXSports.com

And Weiss may be done at ND:
The common perception of Weis' buyout is not accurate. Multiple sources have told the Tribune the buyout, far smaller than believed, will not affect whether Notre Dame decides to fire Weis after Saturday's game at USC. One prominent alumnus called the amount "loose change."

"He has built zero relationships at the school," one source said. "It has been all about him and his ego."

Wouldn't surprise me to see Weiss and/or Romeo back here in New England.

If Dallas wins, they strengthen their pretty good prospects.

If Arizona loses today, it inches the 49ers up in a super long shot for a rebuilding team.

What would be great, again, would be to see the great Dallas-49ers rivalry of 5 ring winners go at it like they did in the 90s. If both are great, I go with the 49ers, but if San Francisco is out, which they probably are, then I am going to root for the Cowboys all the way.

I used to hate the Cowboys but Smith was such a great running back and is a great person. Too nice of a person to hate his former team. Charles Haley gave so much to the '80s niners and Sanders helped the niners too in their last superbowl win, so it's really hard to hate the Cowboys who did well with Haley and Sanders after the niners got a combined 3 or 4 rings due to the help of those two great players when they wore the red and gold. Dallas has always had a knack for choosing QBs with great stats and high passer ratings (Staubach, White, Aikman, Johnson) who have proved great over long periods of time, and hopefully Romo can keep a lifetime QB rating, or rings, like the list above. And as for running backs, Dallas is legendary. Dallas on defense has had some of the best ever. San Francisco has had two record breaking QBs, and Jeff Garcia didn't do shabby there either. It looks like SF can build up a monster defense over time and that will be their key to success imho.

UPDATE: Dallas wins and is catching up with the NFL champion NY Giants and are within reasonable striking distance of taking the NFC East.

Screw bring Weis back. McDaniels ran the highest scoring offense in NFL history last season.

I wouldn't mind seeing Romeo back though. Dean Pees' defenses haven't been nearly as good as Romeo's were.

 Was it really a surprise that they were going to beat Seattle. They are not catching the Giants.

My heart wants to see the Cowboys do well. But if I had to put actual money on this division, I would obviously go with New York to win the division. Being two games back this late in the season is not the best thing as opposed to being two games behind the leader at mid-season.

We are starting to see the playoff possibilities shape up. Tennessee of course, New York Giants of course, and a few others seem to be in pretty good shape.

I think Dallas can possibly get in on a wild card. The longest shot this year is my 49ers. But Arizona, the best team in that division is losing right now in the 4th quarter but it's not over yet so I am on pins and needles with that one. Of course, SF would have to virtually win every game from now on to get into the playoffs and would have to sustain some key defensive players' performances. Numerically, the 49ers are not "out", but the likelihood is so remote, unfortunately. But now that Arizona lost one, it slightly improves SF's long odds but not by much. Arizona, NFC west leader was completely routed tonight.

New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress suffered an accidental gunshot wound Friday night in a club, according to multiple sources.

Details of the incident weren't immediately available, but according to a source the wound was not considered life-threatening.
Fox Sports.com reported that Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg and spent the night in the hospital.
Burress, who was not expected to play against the Washington Redskins on Sunday because of a hamstring injury, was not at team meetings and did not attend the team's Saturday walkthrough.

The Giants organization was not commenting on the story.
In September, Burress was suspended for a game and fined for a violation of team rules, reportedly failing to appear at a team meeting and being unavailable by phone. At the time, his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said that Burress was tending to urgent family matters.
Burress signed a five-year, $35 million contract this fall after helping the Giants to a Super Bowl championship last season.

Translation. Plaxico Burgess was out partying and got pretty effed up. Took his gun out to show off. Capped himself in the leg.

Seriously?

He took a gun to a nightclub?

I try. I really try not to think like Archie Bunker... but it is just so damn easy to hear that voice of reason resonating inside my head.
