Nantz is giddy over the Dolphins. He'll probably be shirtless pinching his nipples as he's talking about the Dolphins turnaround.

The Dolphins are a great story, but it will be a shame if the Patriots sit this one out after their season without Brady

Why is Romo still in this game?
Or any Dallas starter for that matter?
Barber (he's hurt anyway), Owens, etc.

No doubt, esp if you consider that the AFC West could be won with an 8-8 record..

Another pick from Lord Favre. What a suprise...

Nope, just touching himself like Howard Stern always claims to :)

All that speculation this morning on local sports channel about this being Favre's last game? Well, maybe they are right. Great career, not so great as a way to end it.

and last week, espn and the rest of the national media (including the cbs commentators from the fins game) were saying the dolphins weren't going to make the playoffs. too bad media, no jets, no patriots.

I don't mourn the Jets and Favre in this one at all
I do regret not seeing the 11-5 Patriots instead of either the Broncos or Chargers

Agreed and on fotografica's point on winning divisional games. But great effort without Brady

In entirely non-playoff related news, the Niners won on a last second field goal making them 5 and 4 under Singletary. I suspect he's done enough to get the job for real but if they do get rid of Martz as suggested by the media this week, I'm not so sure it will be a good thing since that would make it 5 co-ordinators in 5 years?!?

I hope Singletary keeps the job. My Niners may have a bright future ahead. They kind of bloomed late. As for my Raiders, it's anyone's guess, but a Bay Area Super Bowl seems SOOOO far away. Maybe the Raiders could use Favre? :) (Raiders are legendary for taking old, washed out players and sometimes rejuvenating them somewhat).

Eagles will beat the Vikings
Falcons will beat the Cardinals

Ravens will beat the Dolphins
Colts will beat either Broncos or Chargers

I think it is a toss up
Rivers v. Cutler

Ultimately, I don't think it matters
Who ever wins will be fodder for the Colts

I agree. The Colts will probably go all the way in the AFC if they beat the Titans. But the Giants or Carolina will be there to stop the Colts cold.

At least I have never lost money on football but I bet on "safe" games. Slot machines, that's a different story. :)

And your Falcons? They do have a chance.

Falcons will beat Arizona... mark it down
They split with Carolina in the regular season
They beat Minnesota
They were close to beating the Eagles and should have
That just leaves the Giants

They will not be intimidated in the playoffs
They can run the ball... Turner over 200 yds today again
They are efficient passing with White, et. al.
They are taking care of the ball fairly well and make few mistakes
They play well from behind

Their defense is the wild card... they have to play BIG
Abraham is a force as a pass rusher
But they need to get the job done now

I don't think they make it all the way... but they will be interesting
And look out next year... free agency and the draft will be defense

What do you think about my predicting the powers in the NFL for the next decade+ will come from the AFC and NFC South? (...from another thread I put out here). I think I thought from those two divisions over the next 12 years, six Super Bowl winners would come from one of those two divisions.

I think it is awfully tough to predict next year, much less the next 10 years

The Dolphins and Falcons both proved that with a change in leadership (GM/Coach) and some smart moves (draft, free agency) along with a change in attitude and philosophy... teams can make dramatic strides

Many of the teams in the playoffs this year were not there last year

Falcons are also a great story this year. A fun team to watch. Ryan picked up where he left off at BC. It was fun watching him there, and he's adjusting to the NFL nicely. With Dimitroff, you'll get some solid drafts..

He's actually better than he was in college
His senior year he threw 19 picks
He was asked to carry the team on his shoulders

With Atlanta, he has Turner and Norwood in the backfield to carry the load
He just needs to be efficient (he is) and manage the game
He can make plays with White when he needs too
His leadership and maturity have been unprecedented for a rookie

The Falcons are 11-5
They could have easily been 14-2
They gave away the games to Denver and New Orleans at the end (defense)
The Eagles game was a toss up and the officials decided it late

The lost outright to Tampa and Carolina on the road

Every team has woulda, coulda, shoulda games, I realize that
But these Birds are for real... and will be for the foreseeable future
I expect next year to be their first back to back winning seasons in franchise history

At last, we have someone who can draft :)

I usually go by numbers, but this "south" thing is just a hunch with me, not something I would bet on.

I think with baseball, it's' a little easier to predict, but football only has 16 regular season games and is so prone to trades, changes, and injuries like we saw with Big Ben today, and Brady early this season. I also read on CNN/SI that Brady may sit out some of next season, too. If this happens, NE can have a real live QB controversy like the Giants did with Sims-Hostettler, and the Niners did with Montana-Young. It all makes for very fun speculation and the reason I love to follow football.
