It sounds insane, but I don't think I want the Tide at #1 right now. The ego boost it would generate is absolutely unnecessary. Something about pride before a fall and all that...

It definitely has a psychological affect on the team and the opponents. It puts the bulls-eye there. 'Bama still has a rough road, like all the rest. Lots of football left to play and nobody with one loss is out yet (unless you are one of "those" non-BCS teams and even if you are undefeated you are out).

I'm not sure Texas Tech belongs at #4, but their schedule will definitely catch up to them soon. The Gators surprised me against LSU, and it is insane how good a team can look one week ('Bama against the Dawgs) and how poor they can perform the next (Kentucky). Insert whoever you want... (USC against Ohio State and Oregon State, Florida against Ole Miss and LSU, and so on).

There is going to be the usual sifting of the wheat and tares to come
Some pretty interesting games and story lines coming up this week...

Missouri at Texas
LSU at South Carolina
Vandy at Georgia
Kansas at Oklahoma
Baylor at Oklahoma State
Ole Miss at Alabama
Ohio State at Michigan State

BYU
Utah
Boise State

Do any of those 3 deserve a shot? In my opinion... no. They have not played the schedules the others have... not even close.

There you go again. It's all about opinion, and not just yours. We will never know, under any circumstances, if any of those three teams are the best because they have zero chance of playing in the BCS Championship Game. The reason? The perceived (real or imagined) weakness of their conferences. They don't play the schedule of the SEC or Big 12 for sure, but I think their conferences are just as competitive as the Big 10, which is the most overrated conference in the country, year after year.

The BCS is about money (i.e., the Big Six markets), not about finding the best team in college football. It should really be called The Big Cash System.

Yeah, ok - not. I don't think you'll get rid of me that easily. :p

Plonk!

Congrats, you made it to my "twit filter".

There are only three people in there. I didn't need a playoff system to see who would make it. I just had strong opinions of you all based on your play within this conference.

Badandy here...

Keep the top 5 losses coming baby. USC creeping up.

Did anyone see Joe McKnight? He's ridiculously good. We had a terrible day (I was at the game), five turnovers, and sanchez was still a bit injured and couldn't throw, and we still pitched a 28-0 shut out. We're rollin.

USC definitely looked good. Another good team nobody seems to be talking about is Penn State.

Ack! The dreaded #1 spot!

I'm surprised we jumped Alabama. It was a great win over OU, but we still have a ton of question marks. I'm not sure we're a no crap BCS contender yet.

LSU and Missouri drop out of the Top 10

Texas has a tough schedule and a chance to prove they are deserving
Lot of football left to play

Yeah - I just wish we didn't have the #1 on our backs while we work through the landmines! :)

How do you feel about the Missouri game now?

I expected a one loss Texas trying to rebound and make a statement against an undefeated Missouri team... now the opposite is true. Oklahoma State put the brakes on Chase and the Tigers. Will they fold or will they be hungry? Hard to say.

I feel a lot better about Missouri than I did about OU. I'm glad we'll be at home. Still, as you mentioned, I think a lot of it will come down to how well the players can stay focused now that they got everyone's attention. It'll be an interesting next few weeks as a Longhorn fan. Our next five opponents are 23-4. Yikes!

Doesn't surprise me at all. UA was off this week, plus we played like crap against Kentucky last week despite winning.

I have a feeling Ole Miss is going to get stomped a new one on Saturday.

This is your playoff... where you earn your ranking on the field ;)

I was impressed the way Texas did not give up every time Oklahoma went ahead. You had plenty of opportunity to fold and pack it in. You did not run the ball well at all till the 4th quarter and then the Sooners had no answer for you. Bradford and McCoy both played well enough to win. I thought Bradford would be solid this year, but I had my doubts about McCoy. He has had a great year.

It was an exciting game and one of the few that lived up to the hype. The Longhorns are 3-1 in the last 4 against the Sooners. Impressive. But you are right, you have everyone's attention now, and the ability to focus will be key. Kids tend to start believing the hype about themselves... just ask the Trojans.

I'm assuming you're referring to a shot in the National Championship game? If so then I completely agree, but if you're saying they don't belong in the BCS at all then I disagree.

Boise's program is SO young still. Then you look at the "Blue Bloods" of college football: Oklahoma, Georgia, LSU, Texas, Alabama, etc...

These schools have been powerhouses for a VERY long time, and Boise has only been a Div. IA school for 12 years!

The other problem that Boise has is that none of these larger schools want to come here to play. We went to Georgia a few years ago, but they refused to come here. We've tried to get Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and many more but none of them want to play us.

Honestly I think it's because they don't want to risk a black eye on their season by losing to a WAC school. Wisconsin actually had the balls to go to Fresno this year, and good for them. But those visits are few and far between. Oregon is supposed to come to Boise next season, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they pull out.

How is a program supposed to grow and gain respect when the "Big Boys" are too scared to play?

I have a feeling Ole Miss is going to get stomped a new one on Saturday.

Ole Miss, at Tennessee, at LSU, Mississippi State, Auburn
I think you lose one along the way

Ole Miss beat Florida in the Swamp
Tennessee has nothing left to play for but pride... and Alabama is the rival
LSU can't afford a loss... and it is in Baton Rouge
Mississippi State always plays you tough regardless
Auburn... well, it is the Iron Bowl and records don't count

Which one do you lose?
I don't know... but win them all and you may see the Dawgs again in Atlanta :)
This time maybe we will be ready... hard to beat a good team twice in a year

I have no problem with them playing in a BCS bowl if they deserve it. Utah and Boise did well in their appearances. Hawaii did not.

I don't think we are ready for a non-BCS team in the championship game yet... but that day may come if a team can show they deserve it. But demonstrating it will be tough with their schedule.

Sigh... go ahead Cave Guy... vent till your heart's content...

LSU and Missouri drop out of the Top 10

I think LSU could take USC. Hell, USC must of had 5 or 6 turnovers yesterday. They looked sloppy!

And is there a rule about how many games these teams have to play? How is it that USC has played two less than the State Pen? That doesn't seem right.

I think LSU could take USC.

There is absolutely no way. Their offense is horrendous, we'd absolutely shut them down. If Florida, with their defense, can shut LSU down, it's a good bet we'd do the same.

Yes, we were sloppy. We had five, although one of the interceptions was not Sanchez's fault; Damian Williams (hey, thanks Arkansas!) had the ball hit him in his hands and he bobbled it and hit it straight up in the air. What was good about yesterday's game was how good Joe McKnight looked. He is a flat out weapon.

And is there a rule about how many games these teams have to play? How is it that USC has played two less than the State Pen? That doesn't seem right.

We've used all of our bye weeks I think. We also play Notre Dame in addition to our Pac 10 schedule.

That will help your strength of schedule ;)

You will still come up one game short of those playing a conference championship game in the ACC, Big 12 and SEC

If I had to call a loss right now, I'd probably say LSU. *knock on wood*
Tennessee is not a rival. Auburn is a rival. Tennessee we just loathe.

The good news is that if we can keep it up, we probably will for another 2-3 years at least. There are a lot of young players getting starts and lots of playing time.

Yeah, USC had five turnovers in a very sloppy win. How bad is Arizona State that they get shutout with five turnovers? Heh.

And the difference in the games played is simply their own respective schedules. They each will play 12 games by the end of November.

Ha! Ha! I hear you about Tennessee :) Great line!
It was good to shut down the Vols this week after 2 miserable losses

I agree, LSU is the most logical loss, but college football often defies logic

But you are right... you are very young, and that doesn't bode well for the rest of the SEC :( You will need to find a QB though

But as I have pointed out... they will come up a game short with teams that play a conference championship... Big 12, ACC, SEC

USC jumps all of the way to #4 in the USA Today poll
