Friggin' Trojans! ;)

They are media darlings... Hollywood you know...
They can do no wrong in the eyes of the pollsters

Have no fear... they may have another loss lurking in their schedule
They still have to play Stanford ;)

Now now MacDawg - be fair. USC does have the best team in the history of college football. In fact, they could beat half of the NFL. Nobody beats USC - they just choose not to win from time to time. ;) ;)

I know you were saying it in jest, but your last sentence is spot on. We could probably beat the Rams...

I'll assume you were joking. Any NFL team would absolutely crush any college team.

I was half joking. The Rams would absolutely beat us. The biggest difference between college and pro teams are experience, strength, and size on the offensive and defensive lines. While USC probably will send all its linemen to the NFL, we would get manhandled by an NFL line. As far as traditional "skill players" such as our wide receivers and running backs, we could give the Rams a run for their money. Don't forget our linebackers (Brian Cushing, Rey Maualuga) and our safeties (Kevin Ellison, and the future of safeties TAYLOR MAYS), we are set.

Tommy Bowden out at Clemson!! It's about time!

Poor timing for my GT team though. I'm worried the Tigers will come out with a "nothing to lose" attitude. Should be interesting.

ESPN.com said:
"They just told us. It's what he deserved," said senior quarterback Cullen Harper, who was benched after the Tigers' loss to Wake Forest and replaced by highly regarded sophomore Willy Korn.

Bitter much? Heh.

I haven't been following Clemson, so I have no idea if the benching was justified or not.

These kind of mid-season firings rarely spell anything but continued struggle for the team. I've always felt Athletic Departments should wait until the end of the season to let go of a coach.

After your BIG 10-7 win this week over Gardner Webb... you should be ready for anything!

Ouch....yeah, that was a rough game. O line looked awful, not to mention that Booker at QB was not a good fit. It really showed how much the triple option relies on a solid MOBILE QB.

I've enjoyed watching this clip a few times MacDawg (passed the :30 mark):

I guess he forgot to leap over him this time.

be interesting to see how the dawgs do rest of the season, i thought they would do well heading into the year

Injuries have decimated the O-Line and the front 7 has been hurt on D too. Our number 1 O lineman and number 1 D lineman both went down early. We lost another O lineman this week. But we are still hanging tough. Every win is big, and Vandy will be no cakewalk this week. We have to win the ones we are supposed to in order to have a showdown with the Gators in Jacksonville.

The mighty Cougars of BYU get dominated and exposed 32-7 by TCU

And that... Cave Guy... is why the Non-BCS teams don't get respect or consideration for the BSCNC

Please, the only people that thought BYU was a serious NC contender were the BYU fans. And there were plenty amongst them that weren't blind and knew it wasn't a real possibility. It was fun to talk about, but we all knew it wasn't going happen.

On another note:

I was having a bit of a discussion over at espn.com about this, and now I'm curious what you guys think...

A non-BCS school has to go undefeated to gain any sort of national recognition, but then others argue (rightfully so) that their SOS is so low that it's not hard to go unbeaten throughout the season, and therefore don't deserve their ranking.

So what should the non-BCS program do? Should the program try to schedule more games with top-tier schools (Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia, Florida, etc...) in hopes to gain more respect from the community?

Generally I would say yes, but at second glance that's not such a good idea for the program.

If the program schedules a larger school and beats them that's great, but if they lose they also lose all hopes of gaining any national recognition because their record isn't perfect. So with national recognition gone, so are the hopes of a large bowl bid. With the large bowl bid gone then that program loses all hopes of getting some much needed funding to further improve on the program. And lastly, if that national recognition goes away then so do the hopes of being able to recruit good players year after year.

So what would be better? Schedule more difficult schools to gain a little bit of respect from the community, or go unbeaten and gain national recognition which helps build the program?

I would say you first need to build the program, but there comes a point when you need to step up to that next level and battle some better teams.

Personally I think it would be great if Washington State moved down to the WAC and Boise got in to the PAC-10. Granted the PAC-10 is kind of the joke of the BCS, but at least it's a BCS conference.

Opinions/ideas?

I vote to schedule as tough an out of conference schedule as you can
Playing the BCS schools will help recruitment, not hurt it

To be the best, you need to play the best and get better

I would prefer Boise JOIN the Pac 10 and bring a friend (BYU, Utah?)
Make it the Pac 12 and play a Conference Championship game

But right now those teams all make national news (and recruits) because they are the odd man out. If they join the Pac 10, they will never have the same appeal again. USC is going to win 18 of the next 20 conference championships. They have the prestige, money, coaches, girls and weather.

Today's big games...
If I have overlooked YOUR team (cough.. badandy... cough :) ) it is because these are relevant games :)

#22 Vanderbilt at #10 Georgia
First time these 2 teams have both been ranked when they met
Vandy always plays the Dawgs tough, winning in Athens in 06 and shuda won last year
Could be a Dawg statement game, or could be very close... I'm hoping for a Dawg blowout

#12 Ohio State at #20 Michigan State
Two ranked teams, but both have taken a back seat to Penn State
Ohio State is still searching for an identity
The move at QB was good, but this is still not a great team

#16 Kansas at #4 Oklahoma
Kansas should feel the wrath of a stung Sooner team
I don't expect this one to be close... Oklahoma scores early and often
Bradford has a big day

Ole Miss at #2 Alabama
Many have this as their upset alert, and it could be
Should be an interesting and fun game
Both coaches have moved from one team to another in the SEC West

Michigan at #3 Penn State
Although Michigan sux this is a big hurdle for Penn State
This is a bowl game for Michigan
It won't matter

#11 Missouri at #1 Texas
Great matchup... how will Texas handle being #1
Can Mizzou give Chase Daniels enough time to throw
I need an upset, but I doubt it comes today
There is a loss on the Texas schedule... somewhere... hard to tell where

#13 LSU at South Carolina
LSU might get burned again
The SC defense is strong and LSU has no offense
New QB for SC could give LSU trouble

You're not going to call that bracket-buster of a game: Miss State v Tennessee?

Didn't they play on Friday night with the HS teams? :p

How the mighty have fallen!
Croom was coach of the year in the SEC last year I think
Fulmer won the East  (what a load of crap that was)
Phil even got a hefty extension based on that

Should be another 3-2 game like you had with Auburn :)
Both have good defenses and zero offense
I like your Bulldogs in this game... the Vols have had enough this year

I don't know why, but I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Michigan, so I hope they can hold on to their lead here in the early minutes of the third quarter and pull off an amazing upset of Penn.

I can see Mizzou pulling this off. They should definitely be playing with some passion after their loss last week. Will Texas be back down to earth after the win last week?
