I'm not sure if anyone has seen this yet, but ESPN has a game "College Bowl Mania" where you try and predict the winner of each bowl game.
http://games.espn.go.com/bowlmania/frontpage

I thought that this would be a perfect opportunity for us to settle/start some trash talking. Please let me know if anyone is interested, and if a few of us are, I will create a MacRumors group for us.

I'm in... just let us know what we need to do

BTW... I am thinking maybe a playoff really IS the way to go!

He's a good quarterback that found himself on a team with a better quarterback.

Can't say I blame the guy for wanting to play more.

Suck it SLC. Go Jackets!

All I've learned from these sims is that my Jackets can kick Texas's ass a whole lot more than the percentage shows. Seems a little skewed

What's the matter RamblinWreck?
Can't seem to get a simulation that actually shows those Bugs™ winning it all?

Yeah, not even in the fantasy world does that happen ;)

I like how every single Utah win on my simulation ended up being an upset. How often do you think a team can have 4 upsets in a row?

Still a playoff like this would be a lot of fun to watch, don't you think! It would also settle once and for all, which conferences/teams really are dominant in college football since they'd all actually be playing each other.

SLC

Unfortunately, I've been caught. I can't get my bugs to win the championship in the sims.

Yep, we're too busy winning em in the real world. :D UGA is still 3 behind GT.

But alas, our Clean Old Fashioned Hate record sucks.

To all of those interested, I created a MacRumors group on the ESPN College Bowl Mania contest. Since non of our teams are paired in bowl games, we get to settle the trash talking by showing how much we know about football ourselves.

Enter the group here:
http://games.espn.go.com/bowlmania/group?entryID=262907&groupID=19407

I just created the group, so I hope many of you will join.

Note: you can also use the term "MacRumors" to search for the group in the list.

Actually, it would settle nothing

Just as the simulations suggest... on any given day, one team can beat another, but that does not mean they are the "better" team. That is why they call it an upset. Yes, it would be fun to watch, but it would not be the "end all, be all" that playoff proponents suggest it would be.

Thanks RamblinWreck! I will check it out!

Just so MacDawg knows and I have to sadden myself. I will be rooting for the Sooners come the NC because they are part of the team I bet on winning. Plus as much as I hate to admit it they will be the ones showing how the big 12 offense really stacks up against the SEC defense because no one will say the same thing as Texas Tech smashes Miss.

i never hear any disagreement of the champion in ncaa bball as a result of the tourney even though there are teams that are arguably better that have one bad night

I completely disagree. The whole point of contention in the current BCS situation is teams that want a chance to play for the national title. Sometimes, more than two teams have a legitimate claim to that chance.

You are right, in so far as there is no dispute on who gets "the trophy", but the dispute over the better team, conference, etc. will continue. NCState won the tournament with Jimmy V... but only the diehards will argue that they were the better team that year. Villanova shot an ungodly percentage from the field to win... but only the diehards will argue they were the best team. On that night, they were... but overall... the debate will still be there. Upsets. So... "the champion"... yes, they get the trophy. Settle things completely? Hardly. The college NC is actually settled on the field with the BCS too, much more so than in the past. At least they are trying to make sure 1 and 2 are matched whereas in the past, they were locked in bowl tie ins. The only difference is how it is decided who is 1 and 2 and gets to play in the final game. I am not a fan of the BCS either. But the notion that a playoff will settle everything is ludicrous.

Fair enough... what if you have 5 teams with a claim and a 4 team playoff?
This year... Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Florida, USC... which one gets left out
Would you be a fan of a playoff system if USC was the one left out?

And that doesn't account for Alabama, Utah, Boise... hmmmmm now 8 teams
That's the ticket... 8 teams and there will be no controversy
But that leaves out Penn State...

So, an 8 team playoff, who gets shafted? And why?

Texas
Texas Tech
Oklahoma
Florida
Alabama
Utah
Boise
USC
Penn State

Again... what if it was an 8 team playoff and USC was left out
How would you feel then?
There are 8 teams that have a legitimate argument to be included over the Trojans
So USC would not even be a lock to make the cut in an 8 team format this year
And even if they did, there would be another team on the outside looking in that claimed they deserved a shot

thank God!

Bradford won heisman!!!

I couldn't agree more. I don't know what it is, but man I cannot stand "that Gater" guy.... :)

Congrats to Bradford... he was a deserving winner
I was glad to see that Tebow was 3rd
McCoy deserved his second place... and I would not have been disappointed with McCoy or Bradford

If Tebow had won... it would have been a disgrace

Force a conference championship and those winners would then be competing for the title in the playoff system.

One from ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big 10, etc… giving us 11 conference champions with either 1, 3, 5 to round us all off.

but with that you get things like the orange bowl this year which is just pathetic and neither one of those teams belong in the BCS game when a long list of team are clearly better that did not get in. Examples are OSU and Texas Tech which just happen to be from the same conferences and in Big 12 south. I say take top 8 in BCS standings no matter which conference and no conference limits number of schools in the playoff.

Well the bowls would be gone. If you can't win your conference how does that give you the right to represent your conference? If we do a playoff of the top 8 then we go back to what we don't like about the current system.
