Fairly easy win over Bowling Green tonight. Boise State defense definitely stepped up, aside from BG going 3-3 on 4th downs.

I would have liked to see at least some scoring in the second half for BSU, but the offense just seemed a bit out of sync.

On to Oregon next week.

And speaking of Oregon; their backup QB (Roper) looks to be out for three or four weeks. They are just not having much luck with their quarterbacks this year, which is too bad because it's always sad when injury gets in the way of a great season. Of course who knows, Masoli looked strong against Washington, so he could be up to the task.

Eugene's not an easy place to win, but GO BRONCOS!

...And so much for Fresno's hopes of being the WAC's next BCS Buster. Every game prediction I read was in Fresno's favor. Wisconsin definitely had something to prove there.

I give kudos to Wisconsin for going out to Fresno, and although I'd love to see another WAC team break in to the BCS, I give Wisconsin congrats on their hard-earned win.

While the "Old Ball Coach" always gives Georgia fits, the Dawgs looked, well, un-impressive today. I fear you're going to fall in the next poll, hope you stop at #3. (Oklahoma should jump you, and other teams looked more impressive than UGA.)

I wouldn't be surprised if the Dawgs slip again, and yet... I am happy to get the win. I have said all along... with the schedule they have this year, they just need to win and take care of business and let the polls sort themselves out in the end. It was a typical South Carolina game, and winning ugly is better than losing (like last year). Not any uglier than Auburn's 3-2 shellacking of Mississippi State or Florida's win over Miami last week for that matter.

I just hope playing a tough close game on the road gets their attention and pays dividends down the road when we play at LSU and at Auburn (not to mention in Jacksonville).

Speaking of un-impressive, does anyone have any idea why the pollsters insist on putting the Buckeyes at the top of the polls every year, in spite of their propensity for being blown out by top tier teams from other conferences? Anyone?

Just my theory...

1. Ratings - They are the best the Big 10 has to offer and they NEED the Big 10 to be relevant. They need the stories for ESPN, sports talk radio, etc. If the Big 10 and Ohio State is not relevant, you lose a big section of the country (same for Michigan, but they are awful right now).

2. Talent - They have a lot of players in the NFL, so they have the talent, it just doesn't translate to wins on the field. You hear a lot about the draft choices they have on their team this year.

Hopefully this seals Ohio State's fate this year. They may run the table the rest of the year against their schedule, but I hope nobody is willing to put them in the BCS NC game again this year as one loss team, and I hope they plummet in the polls.

USC, back on top, for real.

Congrats on the win Badandy, I think most people saw this one coming. Hype games (like Superbowls) often get out of hand like this. You are the front runner now and the ESPN analysts are saying you are a lock for the NC game. Good luck dealing with that hype during the grind of the season. Your easy schedule sets up well, and with Cal and Arizona State losing to bad teams, and Oregon barely squeeking by, it doesn't look like you will even be challenged.

After all, the mighty Pac 10 was swept by the Mountain West Conference on Saturday:
UNLV in overtime over Arizona State 23-20
Texas Christian beat Stanford 31-14
New Mexico knocked off Arizona 36-28
Brigham Young hammered UCLA 59-0.

On top of that:
Washington was pounded by Oklahoma
Washington State loses to... Baylor
Cal loses to... Maryland.

Not the Pac 10's finest hour in spite of your win over Ohio State.

Oh well, thank goodness for the state of Oregon!
Oregon got past... Purdue in overtime
Oregon State did beat... Hawaii

As an Oklahoma fan, all I hope is that if OU is lucky enough to play for another title and USC is the opponent, that the score is a bit closer than back in the '04 game.

Oklahoma looks strong again. Their offense is clicking as well as anyone in the country. You won't see Missouri this year until the Big 12 Championship game. Texas and Texas Tech are your only hurdles, so keep your focus.

no more ohio st in the nc game. this game proves they fold come big game time. hopefully, they lose another game and end all of this national championship nonsense. and btw, what happened to the big ten? they aren't that great anymore, and michigan is just awful now, getting spanked by notre dame.

and talking about another overrated team, clemson lost again, 0-2 so far this season. any reason why they get ranked high preseason all the time? bowden maybe? acc hype? i'm starting to think the gap between bcs and non bcs schools is closing; besides the sec and big 12, i don't see too much from the bcs conferences that they have superiority over non bcs schools.

i hope nobody starts hyping up the pac-10 as a great conference overall, they look stinky so far. if usc doesn't walk all over the lack-10, i'll laugh, and probably shouldn't be in the nc game.

the problem comes when it's bcs time and choklahoma comes instead.

Actually Clemson beat NC State 27-9 and they are now 2-1
But yes, Clemson is an underachiever for sure and the ACC is pitiful these days

Yes, you are right about that... if they can't deliver this year, it will be bad. The Boise game and the choke last year against WV were bad, not to mention the pasting USC gave them.

UCLA, who just got smacked by BYU, beat Tennessee, the previous number 18. Also count Michigan, you know, the terrible team last year that also lost to App State, beating the mighty Florida, the SEC starts to not look so great. Remember Arkansas coming to USC a little bit ago? I do too, I was there. The PAC-10 is not the best conference, but it is no cakewalk. The SEC is the best conference, but it is nowhere near as good as everyone in the SEC says it is.

In the AP poll OSU is now #13. At least there is still the chance of being the Big 10 champion and with that comes a BCS bowl (that's not the championship game).

Hmmmm, I believe the last 2 National Championships belong to the SEC

And my, my it looks like there are 5 teams from the SEC in the AP Top 10 now

I think Oregon at #17 is the only other Pac 10 team in the Top 25

And I think head to head is a much better indicator than 3rd party comparison... (this team lost to this team who lost to this team... not quite a 7 steps to Kevin Bacon thing)

There is still much football to be played... so nobody needs to be crowned yet, let's let the schedules play out

Besides, USC still has to play Stanford ;)

Week 4 Matchups

I will confess I haven't done too well with my picks
But there have been some surprises along the way,
and nobody else seems too inclined to venture an opinion!

5 SEC teams in the Top 25... unprecedented
All of them are in action this week

#3 Georgia
#4 Florida
#6 LSU v #10 Auburn
#9 Alabama

#3 Georgia at Arizona State
Most of the luster is gone from this matchup in the desert
ASU lost to UNLV last week in overtime, so they look to redeem themselves
The Dawgs travel across the country for a night game
UGA should win, but every week will be a struggle now with there schedule
We can't get caught looking ahead to Alabama

#4 Florida at Tennessee
Always a bitter rivalry, regardless of the score
Tennessee is still smarting from the UCLA loss, especially after their drubbing by BYU
The Gators have not been very impressive... upset?

Buffalo at #5 MIssouri
Buffalo isn't a bad team
Missouri is a very good team
Mizzou has no problem dispatching Buffalo

#6 LSU at #10 Auburn
Two strong SEC defenses in a great rivalry that is always close
Both offenses are suspect, so it shouldn't be a high scoring game
The winner will emerge as the favorite in the West (with all due respect to Bama)
I like LSU in this game

Rice at #7 Texas
Texas is on a mission and playing well
I don't expect that to change this week

#9 Alabama at Arkansas
Petrino and the Hogs suck... big time
Bama wins and gets ready for a showdown in Athens with the Dawgs

Massachusetts at #11 Texas Tech
Texas Tech rolls in this matchup

#12 South Florida at Florida International
Should be an easy win for the Bulls

Troy at #13 Ohio State
Can the Buckeyes beat these men of Troy?
Don't underestimate this Troy team...
and Ohio gave THE Ohio State University all they wanted

Wyoming at #14 BYU
BYU should keep rolling towards a showdown with Utah

#15 East Carolina at NC State
East Carolina got a scare last week
There is nothing scary about NC State

Temple at #16 Penn State
Penn State wants to establish themselves in the Big 10 after Ohio States loss
The make their case stronger against on overmatched Temple team

Boise State at #17 Oregon
Oregon was surprised last week
Boise is not as good as they have been, but it may not be a blowout

#18 Wake Forest at #24 Florida State
Wake struggled and FSU is playing well
Are the 'Noles back?
Maybe not all the way, but I like them in this game

Sam Houston State at #19 Kansas
Kansas gets healthy after their loss

#20 Utah at Air Force
Utah can't look ahead to the rest of their schedule or someone will sneak up on them

South Carolina State at #23 Clemson
Poor Clemson... no respect
They don't deserve it... even though they will win this game

#25 Fresno State at Toledo
After their heartbreak, the Bulldogs take it out on Toledo

Well, those are my thoughts... what are yours?
Great games this week as we begin to get into the conference schedules

Boise State at #17 Oregon
Oregon was surprised last week
Boise is not as good as they have been, but it may not be a blowout

Well, you were nearly right. It should have been a blowout.

Boise State looked like they rolled over in the 4th quarter. They need to work on finishing games. The team is pretty young which is great for the coming seasons, but we have to get through this one first.

I was sad to see ECU lose today in such a way. I have a feeling they're really going to drop in the polls after that rivalry loss.

Pray with me to the Football Gods that there will be a USC vs. GA final! These two teams are insane!

(And the Pac 10 SUCKS! USC is the only good team in the conference!)

Awesome game at Auburn tonight. Both teams fought hard, and had exciting offensive plays to pull out of their hats. Watching these SEC match-ups is one of the most exciting things in college football.

Great ABC bio on UGA VII tonight MacDawg.

Boise State was 0-7 in Pac-10 Stadiums until today. congrats on your first.

I don't live in the past. ;)

I'm well aware that BSU would get man-handled by USC, but I believe BSU could handle every other Pac-10 team right now. We've come up short in the past, and last year's loss to the Huskies was pathetic, but in this moment in time I believe BSU could handle the rest of the Pac-10.

There are a lot of Oregon fans putting the loss on the down quarterbacks, but the last I checked QB's don't play defense. Oregon gave up 37 points to a team that they were supposed to dominate.

I think Thomas looked great for the Ducks, but as the OU Offensive Coordinator pointed out: BSU was playing prevent D when Thomas took the field, so he had a lot of opportunities that opened up because of the soft D by BSU. Had Thomas been in there in the first half I don't think he would have looked as good as he did in the fourth quarter.

Oregon's still a great team, and Blount is an absolute animal. I really enjoyed (and hated at the same time) watching him run. He will definitely be in the NFL either next year or the year after.

Great ABC bio on UGA VII tonight MacDawg.

UGA's a rock star. Plain and simple. :)

That was a fun game to watch too.

Wow. My vote, right now, for the Heisman is that Moreno kid from GA! Awesome!

i agree!

Pray with me to the Football Gods that there will be a USC vs. GA final! These two teams are insane!

(And the Pac 10 SUCKS! USC is the only good team in the conference!)

yep, let's hope so! but UGA has got a very tough road ahead of them. just gotta take it one game at a time. tough game coming up next week against Alabama

So there's now six non-BCS schools in the Top 25.

What do you people think the likelihood is of two non-BCS schools busting the party this year?

If BYU keeps rolling I think they will definitely get in, but I would love to see another non-BCS school get in just to shake things up a bit. ;)
