2008/9 COLLEGE Football Thread

i sure hope so. of course, the rankings won't be in until Sunday. let's hope UGA wins and gets bumped up!

USC looks like they did against Stanford or the Pats looked against the Giants. Flat, out of sync, shocked... and waaay less cocky now.

I don't know what it is with USC. They've had, arguably, the best talent in the country for the past 8 years and they've squandered it (one true championship under Carroll) year after year.

This looks bad. :(

It ain't over yet, but yeah, it's the same old thing with USC. Every year, their stupid fans call their team the best ever, just to go on and get beat.

If USC pulls this out, and I could vote, I'd HAVE to bump them from #1! They should be squishing Oregon State.

Unlike pro, a win isn't a win. You gotta look like you are the boss of this level to earn props.

I'm afraid I must disagree with such a sentiment, blackout notwithstanding.

Who do you think will be #1 if USC loses? And if USC manages to pull this one out, do you think they will keep the #1 slot?

I can't believe that USC is losing to the Detroit Lions of the Pac 01!

And why does OS keep passing!? Keep handing it off to that little guy!

If they win, USC keeps #1. OK is playing a ranked team this week and Florida isn't.

As long as UGA ends up several spots lower due to the butt-whooping they are about to receive, I'll be happy. Anywhere under the 8th-10th range will do nicely. :D Unfortunately I won't be able to see the whole game since I've got to be somewhere else 15 minutes before kickoff.

I think OU will move to the #1 slot. But Georgia could make a strong case for it this weekend.

Still lots of ball left to be played. Georgia plays in the tough SEC. OU could easily lay an egg themselves. It's wide open.

Wow.

That was unexpected.

Fools.

I gotta think that losing to an unranked, 25 point underdog, will drop them out of the top 10. They looked putrid tonight. Like a #14-16 team.

that's right, they should be knocked out of the top 10, but i bet they won't. for whatever reason (money), the voters like USC.

now Georgia has got to win this weekend!

i think it's because of their coach that they have the usc love affair. it's annoying the things they do for usc, like excuse their losses as flukes or give them best team ever before losing the nc game to texas, giving championships to them, etc. i think they are a bit overrated. they will drop 2 slots...

I just don't think that USC ever has to be worried about getting knocked off by Washington, Washington State or Oregon State.

...well, I was wrong about this year. What the hell happened? I couldn't believe how flat they looked tonight after looking so strong in other games this year.

How far do they drop in the polls? Why do I still have the feeling that the media keeps them real close to the Top 10??

I think you are right. Then #5 Ohio State lost to the then #1 USC and dropped out of the top ten to #13. Certainly losing to a non-ranked team would be worth more than an 8-place drop. I think the media will show their bias and keep them in the top 10. The bias is clear though as you saw Georgia drop after one week and a win. They couldn't wait for USC to be #1. Oops.

I attend USC. It's a bad night.

No, it's because we're damn good every single year and we show up to play in huge games. You put us in a big game, we will most likely win it. We just can't stop doing stupid sh** like this...

...or give them best team ever before losing the nc game to texas

Vince Young's knee was down, that much was clear. Terribly officiated game, but we did make mistakes.

they will drop 2 slots...

You think we'll be number 3?! After that?! We will probably be around 15, even though games against about 11 of the teams above number 15 would be blowouts in our favor. It's still a fair ranking after we stunk up the field tonight though. Damnit.

It's about time this thread perked back up!

I guess it's a good thing USC got beat, otherwise there would still be tumbleweeds blowing through. ;)

That was amazing. I thought for sure USC was going to show the Beavers who is #1, and why.

'Quizz is my new favorite RB. That guy was awesome! "I'm a small dude, and they couldn't see me!" :D

USC should drop to around 15, but I think they'll stay in the top 10.

This weekend is definitely going to be interesting, especially the polls on Sunday!

Besides USC still has to play Stanford Oregon State

It is tough to win every week in College football, regardless of who you are playing, and great teams usually have a tough week along the way. The bullseye is always on their back. Invincible teams rarely are... ask the Pats after the Super Bowl. Anointed teams have huge expectations and every week is the game of the year to their opponent.

Tough break Badandy, but you still have the opportunity to take it out on the rest of the Pac 10 and work your way back up, unlike the loss to Stanford or UCLA the past 2 years. You can count on the others falling along the way, and it is better to get this out of the way early and motivate your team. The only exceptions to the rule I can think of are LSU's loss to Arkansas last year, which should have kept them out of the mix, and Oklahoma's loss in the Big 12 Championship Game a few years ago. I wouldn't count USC out of the big game just yet. I have a feeling they post big numbers from here on out.

IF the Dawgs take care of business against Alabama they should keep pace with Oklahoma and not fall this week after a win again. This will be a tough game and I don't like the matchup at all. 'Bama has the edge on the line... both sides... and that doesn't make for a good day. We have to find a way to run the ball and protect Stafford... and stop the run ourselves and pressure JPWilson. I have a bad feeling about the game, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Dawgs go down this week. Championship teams find a way to win these games, so we will see from week to week. Every game the rest of the year is a game like this for the Dawgs... the preseason is over :)

C'mon, that happened in the 2nd quarter and they would have had first and goal at around the 10 yard line anyway even if the refs had caught that. They couldn't stop Vince Young all night and that's why they lost, not because of that one bad call. Refs blow calls both ways in every game anyway.

It was a great game to watch. OS wanted it bad, USC played like they thought it was owed to them. They woke up in the second half, but it too little too late.

They'll fall in the polls, but I'd be surprised if they fall out of the top 10.

USC is still a great team, they can work their way back up. It's always better to lose early.

The Dawgs have a tough row to hoe this weekend, 'Bama is playing tough! They need an impressive win to jump the Sooners in the polls, and this is one of those SEC games you're just happy to survive.

Florida may get jumped in the polls, even with a win. Mississippi State is unranked, but in recent history has played the Gators tough.

Ought to be a fun weekend!

I hate to say it MacDawg, but I'm not real confident that UGA can beat 'Bama this weekend. Where is the game? I hope it's another barn-burner like Auburn v. LSU.

It is in Athens... College Game day will be there for the "blackout" :)
