I agree that Heidfeld lookded pissed off. I'm curious why he wasn't running faster towards the end since he had burned up all that fuel. Guess his tires were giving out.

Fox sports cut off from the press conference too. :( If somebody ends up with a link please pass it on.

Awesome result for BMW-Sauber. There first win is also a one-two. :D :D :D

Now I can't wait until Rahall-Letterman starts kicking some butt with the new M3 GTR in ALMS. I'm hoping it debuts at Petit Le Mans as rumors say it might.

Massa was good. I can't deny that.

With the exception of Oz (where Kimi was also dreadful), and Bahrain... Massa's been seriously impressive. I'm tempted to put a tenner on him for the championship now, he's overtaken Kimi in the standings, but more importantly, he's not only consistently quicker than the Finn, but he's also seemingly consistently consistent too. ;) No wonder Kimi's considering retiring. :p

What about rosburg? He should also receive a penalty.

Yes.

Personally I think it'll be put down as a racing incident, no penalties at all.

Probably, but it wasn't a racing incident, Hamilton caused an avoidable incident, that almost certainly should carry at the very least a 5 place (if not 10) place grid penalty at the next race.

Personally, given that they were not racing at the time, that it's quite clear that Hamilton would've passed the red light, and that he also took out his chief rival for the championship in the process, he should receive a 1 race ban for his efforts. Seriously.

Ferrari also need to be told not to release their cars into the path of others. And Ferrari and Williams need to be told not to race in the pit lane...

Rosberg 10 spots as well.

I'm surprised that Vettle hasn't received something for cutting that corner coming out of the last chicane.

I think Hamilton deserved it, but Rosberg couldn't help running into Hamilton...

LOL if Hamilton had been able to stop just a inch short he would of been hit by Rosburg anyway, though Hamilton wouldn't of got the ten place demotion though. He would of been shunted into the Ferrari infront probarly.

Anyway thats is IF.

Would like to of seen a camera view from Hamilton's car :D

They didn't. They released Kimi only fractionally after Kubica, given that the Canadian pit-lane is double width, it's quite clear that Kubica was never required to take any evasive action whatsoever, to avoid any type of collision, because the width of the pit-lane could accommodate both cars side by side.

As far as I'm aware, there's nothing stated in the rules that this is illegal, in fact I recall that in pit-lanes that can accommodate cars side-by-side, such positioning of cars is reasonably frequent, I remember final qualifying at the 2006 French GP, and Alonso did exactly the same thing to Schumacher, drawing up alongside, with both of them racing out of the pit-lane.

But they weren't racing in the pit-lane, both drivers were quite aware that they couldn't leave the pit-lane until the Safety Car and the snake had passed the pits hence why they both stopped at the two big, red flashing lights. :p

So Hamilton has been given a 10 place penalty.

Indeed. And McLaren aren't happy about it. :p

Whitmarsh said:
The McLaren chief reckons the penalty was severe, and said the stewards had acted differently when Raikkonen crashed into the back of Adrian Sutil in Monaco.

The Finn, who had lost control of his car, did not receive any penalties.
"It is," he said when asked if the penalty was severe. "There was a different view taken in Monaco so we've got to work with what we're given."

Because of course a driver that accidentally touches a wet part of the track under breaking, subsequently losing control and accidentally hitting another driver is exactly the same situation as a driver who wasn't paying attention to the two big flashing red lights, and who then proceeds to crash into two stationary cars stopped side-by-side at the end of the pit-lane! McLaren 'eh...

Jesus, now that **** James Allen is at it now...

This is interesting in light of Raikkonen’s collision with Adrian Sutil in Monaco, which cost the German five points, but did not attract a 10-place grid drop for Kimi here in Canada… Figure that one out.

Really... how dense can you be?

I've only seen the the footage from the camera that was facing his helmet... even now I still can't quite understand how he didn't notice the two large flashing red lights, and two stationary cars, side by side in front of him?

Mind you... it did curb the irritatingly adolescent James Allen. :p :p :p

How can people say the FIA don't have anything against McLaren when the give Kovalainen a 5 place penalty in qualifying for what was really nothing and then give Hamilton a drive through penalty today.

And now here come the Ferrari fan boys saying they deserved both penalties

How can people say that they do, when McLaren quite clearly should've been banned from competing in the 2008 Formula One World Championship? ;)

when the give Kovalainen a 5 place penalty in qualifying for what was really nothing

Did you see the incident? He compromised the end of Webber's qualifying lap, significantly impeding him in the last corner by needlessly turning in.

Given previous precedents, the only option was a penalty.

and then give Hamilton a drive through penalty today.

Admittedly that wasn't quite so clear cut though... he'd certainly started the pass before the start of corner/chicane, but he quite clearly only managed to complete the move by leaving the track, and that gave him the advantage, had he slowed the car to actually stay on the circuit, then Vettel almost certainly would've taken him on the exit.

Though we should perhaps consider had there been a gravel trap, or even grass in that area rather than tarmac, then Hamilton almost certainly would've lost at least one position if not more, and Hamilton almost certainly would've slowed the car, relinquishing the position to Vettel, rather than the risk sustaining damage.

Of course, given that precedents exist for this infraction, all Hamilton had to do was relinquish the position to escape the drive-through penalty, which arguably would've been the cleverest thing to do, considering he was at that moment likely fighting for a points paying position, simply another strategic error by McLaren.

Hamilton's certainly making many errors this season as well though.

I have not posted on this page for AGES but I thought I would pop my head up again.

Hamilton is having what professional racing drivers call 'a mare'. What is going on between his ears?

He is making so so many mistakes this year it is almost funny. Every race is like Brazil last year.

I think it may just be Massa's year this season, he has been getting a bit of luck but is driving very very well and bring his car home in one piece.

Just for a bit of a giggle before the British Grand Prix.

I have just got back from Nelson Mandelas 90th birthday concert in London and it was great. Who should be on-stage to introduce the SugarBabes?

Lewis Hamilton.

And what was the first song the SugarBabes played, yup "Push The Button". How appropriate for Mr. Hamilton! (Just think Brazil last season ;) )

Bring on Silverstone!

I got a little angry seeing him there - he needs to be preparing for the BGP!! I really don't think theres much he can do this season now! Those Ferrari's are just too quick :(

He said he was a bit nervous so he had written a speech to read out.

Someone behind me said that if he can't even see a red light what hope does he have of reading out a speech!

I fear that with the number of mistakes Lewis is making he may turn into a bit of a laughing stock.

Oh and the only reason he was there... Mercedes sponsored the event

All drivers are required to do public appearances.

As it's F1 anything could happen. Hamilton could still pull it off. I'm not even trying to guess how it will end.

I'm loyal to BMW so I would love to see Kubica surprise everyone. Unfortunately BMW is still a bit off the pace.

Yeah I think BMW will struggle between now and the end of the season. It is very similar to the Honda situation, they won a race which they probably didn't deserve and it masked the real performance of the car.

I think Toyota and Renault will have the better of them between now and the end of the season.

That I don't agree with. BMW doesn't have the pace of Ferrari and McLaren, but I don't think Renault and [especially] Toyota can can catch up and outpace BMW this season on a consistent basis, and BMW will probably have improvements to show before the season ends.

Honestly, more than anything, I'm really looking forward to the Rahal-Letterman BWM M3 GTR to debut at Sebring next March, and maybe even earlier this year at Petit (I'll be at both races). Without a USGP for me to attend, F1 holds my fascination less than it did.

Hopefully not too off topic,
But has anyone else on this thread ever been to Hockenheim or is going to Hockenheim for the German Grand Prix this year ??
I'm planning on going and I've got my hotel and flight's for my trip to Germany sorted out but I'm still trying to decide which race tickets to buy. Any ideas

Never been, but you'll get your moneys worth if you can get tickets for one of the stands in the so called Stadium section of the circuit, because the cars are visible for an inordinate amount of time compared to other tracks.

There's been plenty of wheel-to-wheel and overtaking into turn 4, as well as coming out of turn 7-thru-8 (which enters the stadium section) in recent years, especially by Schumacher, Alonso and Button.

You've picked a splendid race to go to, even though the new Hockenheimring is much maligned over the old layout, the racing is significantly better IMHO.
