I've got a share of a season ticket, nine games. My last game is the final home game of the season, Sept. 25. If you'd have asked me a week ago, I would have said those tickets were going on ebay, but not now. Dodgers beat Arizona again today, and occupy first place alone for the first time since early April.

That should be a pretty decent game, hopefully an easy win for the Dodgers. Only game I made it to this year was a preseason matchup against my Red Sox, good fun, I just wish we'd get a matchup during the regular season. The NL West has been a pretty wild division as we near the end of the season, the Dodgers and D-Backs have been so up and down in recent weeks. The Dodgers have definitely been trying to make the moves to give themselves a good chance at playing in the playoffs, we'll see how the rest of the season goes. I'd love a Red Sox-Dodgers World Series, but that might be a little unlikely.

Who knows? The Dodgers still have a lot of work to do, but the rest of the regular season schedule favors them in theory, especially if Arizona can't get good performances out of Webb and Haren, and even more so if the Dodgers get Saito and Furcal back. It would sure be priceless to see Manny playing in Boston wearing a Dodger uniform!

Remember that time when I said the Rays were "unstoppable"? I must've bumped my head that day and not realized it. Their lead is now down to 1.5 games and they are playing the Red Sox in Boston. They really need to win the East because it would be much better for them to play the White Sox in the first round, than the Angels.

shocking fact, the padres, at 55-88 are still alive for the playoffs (although a loss against the dodgers tonight will change that). worst team in baseball still in playoff contention...sad nl worst.

Thanks for that.

Fact is, we're only just seeing mathematical eliminations in other divisions over the past few days.

Funny how the NLW is only noticed when the teams have a collectively bad season. The good ones are hardly noticed at all.

It's not shocking at all, it's just math. Completely unrealistic math. The Padres would have to win their last 19 games and every other NL West team would have to lose theirs. Ridiculous.

The Cool Standings percentages have the odds down (visible in the far-right columns here). From this we can learn that:

- The Angels will clinch the AL West within the next few games.

- The Rays and Red Sox are almost certain to both make the playoffs. The only question is which will win the AL East and which will be the wild card winner.

- The White Sox and Twins are the only ones with a chance to win the AL Central. The second-place team will stay home. This is the only true AL race left now.

- Same situation in the NL West. For the Dodgers and D-backs, it's division title or bust.

- The NL East also doesn't have many wild card hopes. Unless the Brewers completely collapse or the Mets or Phillies practically win out, it will be New York or Philly, not both.

- Statistically speaking, the Cubs have a playoff spot all but sewn up. But these ARE the Cubs. The Brewers are in the wild card driver's seat.

I must admit I am rooting for the Dodgers in the NL now that they have Manny. How's he been? It's not the same without him.

He's cooled off only slightly in the last week. Still batting over .400 since coming to LA. OPSing over 1.200. 50 hits and 34 RBIs in 35 games. He gets on base more than half the time. And most importantly, he's rejuvenated the lineup, with Ethier and Loney hitting better around him. Even Kent -- before getting hurt -- was boosted by Manny's presence, although he denied it.

If the Dodgers can keep people healthy and Saito, Penny, and Furcal can come off the DL and contribute something, they'll be in very good shape. Their remaining schedule is far easier than Arizona's, although the Dodgers have played down to their competition plenty of times before.

Most satisfyingly for me, Torre feels no pressure to play Jones because of his contract and Pierre has been relegated to the pinch-hitter/utility outfielder role he deserves. Unless Jones has an MVP season next year, he'll go down as one of the worst free agent signings of all time. It's tempting to say it already is, except it's only two years, unlike Barry Zito, Kevin Brown, Darren Dreifort, Denny Neagle, etc., who were all for many years.

Worth mentioning, Torre has been batting Manny third, which is certainly unconventional. Everybody who's batted in front of him has gotten rich.

uuuuugghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

brewers ****/ty a$$ bullpen blows another one to the lowly reds:mad::mad::mad::mad:

is it too late for me to get a pink hat and jump on the mets bandwagon?

I can see it now: Twins/Brewers world series... NO LEAD IS SAFE!!!

Yeah, the red sox have said weather be damned and are playing in the rain anyways.
Don't they have a double tomorrow?

Rays continued to beat up on the Sox the last 2 games. Nice to see Paperboy get rocked Wednesday.

Only 10 games left at the stadium.

am i the only one rooting for the d'backs? i can't believe this MRFB (MacRumors Forum Bias)....

Best of luck to your Dodgers. I hope they win the West.

Thanks! Maybe Mr. Torre really can pull off a September miracle. It's been 20 seasons -- we're due!

Thanks for the heads up.

That would be really nice to see. I'll be pulling for the Dodgers, cause you know my Yankees are dead.

Dodgers sweep Arizona, now 1.5 games ahead, winning on this amazing play by Nomar in the bottom on the 9th.

Sometimes the baseball gods smile on you, sometimes they don't.

I must admit I am rooting for the Dodgers in the NL now that they have Manny. How's he been? It's not the same without him.

I am rooting for the Dodgers and Rays to make the World Series at this point. Although watching Torre and Manny win it in Boston would be sweet.

am i the only one rooting for the d'backs?

Any more? Probably. When the Dodgers played their recent series in San Diego, more fans were cheering for LA than the home team.

Magic number is now 13.

If this forum has any bias, trust me, it's not for the Dodgers. The forum has only two Dodger fans. All of a sudden, we got some converted Yankee fans who are rooting for the Dodgers now because they'd love to see Manny come back to Boston wearing Dodger blue.

I also want to see Torre shove it to the Yankees. Don't forget my idol Mattingly is now a Dodger as well.

There are going to be 5 double headers on Saturday. First time it has happened since 1990.
Storm systems throughout the country wreaked havoc on the baseball schedule, postponing six games Friday night and creating a weekend full of doubleheaders.

Hurricane Ike, a colossal storm nearly as big as Texas itself, began battering the Gulf Coast on Friday, a day after officials postponed the first two games of the weekend series in Houston between the Astros and Cubs.

Meanwhile, rainy weather throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic led to the postponement of games all the way from Baltimore to New York. Another storm wiped out the White Sox-Tigers game in Chicago.

It was the most major league postponements in one day since six games were wiped out on April 15, 2007. Prior to that, there hadn't been that many since April 12, 1997, when eight games were postponed, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

"This part of the year, normally it gets a little colder," Mets pitcher Pedro Martinez said. "This time of the year, that much rain -- I haven't seen it."

It also set up an unusually full slate of games for Saturday. If the schedule holds, there will be 12 games in the American League for the first time since Aug. 8, 1985, and 20 games in the majors for the first time since Aug. 4, 1974, according to Elias.

Baseball officials were anticipating that Sunday's series finale in Houston also might be postponed. One of the scenarios under consideration was to play a doubleheader Monday, and make up the third game on Sept. 29 if it's needed to decide a playoff berth. The Cubs and Astros have no common off days after Monday.

In New York, both the Mets and Yankees were postponed, setting up two doubleheaders Saturday. According to Elias, only twice before have Mets and Yankees both played two games at home on same day -- on Sept. 21, 1982, and April 13, 1997.

In Philadelphia, steady rain forced the postponement of a key matchup between the NL wild card-leading Milwaukee Brewers and the Phillies.

The game will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader Sunday.

In Baltimore, the Orioles-Twins game never started and was finally called after a delay of nearly two hours. They scheduled a doubleheader for Saturday.

In Chicago, batting practice was canceled but the grounds crew worked on the field to dry it out and it appeared the game would start on time. But three minutes before the scheduled first pitch, the tarp was rolled out and the field was covered again.

They also scheduled a doubleheader for Saturday.

In Boston, the Blue Jays and Red Sox played through the rain, and Boston beat Toronto 7-0 after the start was delayed 41 minutes.
