Hey everyone!
Sorry for the length of this post, but I had a lot to catch up on!
I am SO happy that the Fiesta Bowl chose Boise State! Stupid Texas barely escapes Nebraska... I was at a business training event that Saturday so I wasn't able to watch the game, but I was keeping up on the score. I could not BELIEVE that Boise State's BCS fate came down to one second! Colt McCoy just about gave me a heart attack.
Texas is going to get killed by Alabama...
Then after Georgia Tech slipped by Clemson I knew we were going to the Fiesta, but I still didn't think we'd be playing TCU. I thought the Fiesta would take Iowa and the Orange would take TCU. But in hindsight I'm not surprised in the least that the Fiesta took both unbeaten non-AQ's. Nor do I think it was some conspiracy by the BCS Bowls to "protect" the BCS conferences. It was simply the Fiesta taking the two teams that would fit the best, and it just happened that Boise State was the next best team.
I love the Fiesta Bowl. It's been great to the non-AQ's, and for the most part it has done a great job of putting together great matchups.
And unlike so many others, I love this matchup with TCU! First because I have a TON of respect for TCU and Coach Patterson. They've been able to do some wonderful things to help push the non-AQ's further to the top. Second, last year's Poinsettia Bowl was a great game that came down to one stinking point! And had we not missed TWO field goals it could have ended differently.

...but TCU still won a great game.
The last reason why I love this matchup is because no one, and I mean NO ONE is giving Boise State a snowball's chance in this game! That makes me very, very excited.

Our team always seems to step up when they're an underdog on the big stage. When we've gone to lesser games in the past (excluding last year's game) we have come out rather flat. I think we were up against TCU last year (especially our defense, which is what kept us in the game) but TCU was just a little better. This year I honestly think we're going to beat them.
TCU's offense has definitely improved by leaps and bounds, but our offense has improved as well. Our biggest problem last year was our O-line, and that has finally been sorted out. I believe we're #1 in the country on sacks allowed at like .38 per game, and we have an entire arsenal of dangerous receivers as well as a great power back in Doug Martin. TCU's run defense is still spectacular, but it's their secondary that I think we'll have an advantage on.
Our defense is still really tough, and is still underrated in the eyes of most college fans. Most people think offense when they think Boise State, but it's our defense that kept us in the hunt last year and that has been wonderfully consistent this year. The only thing we could do better at is putting pressure on the opposing quarterback. Our run defense is really solid (unless we're playing against Fresno State and Ryan Matthews..heh) and our linebackers have really stepped up this year. We have one of the best Corners in the country in Kyle Wilson, and two outstanding safeties in Jeron Johnson and George Iloka. Iloka is a machine when it comes to tackling in space.
TCU is an outstanding team, and I think they could play with and beat any team in the country. But I feel the same way about Boise State. We're #6 and TCU is #4 because the WAC doesn't have BYU and Utah to boost their SOS. Everyone discounts our win over Oregon, but the fact remains that we dominated the PAC-10 Champ. The reason why Oregon "played so poorly" was because we ripped them apart on both sides of the ball. The game against Oregon was a glimpse of what we're capable of, but no one gives us credit for it. I think that's great, because we're gonna show up in Glendale on January 4th and remind everyone that this little 10 year old Div. IA team is in fact one of the best teams in the country!
...oh, and I'm glad Ingram won the Heisman. Gerhart probably would have won it had Stanford won just one more game. But the important part here is that Tebow wasn't even close! it's too bad Brian Kelly couldn't man up and decide to coach his team in the Sugar Bowl, because I would have loved to see Florida lose. But now I'm afraid the Bearcats will be in such disarray that they will probably get picked apart. ...oh well.
