Heisman thoughts, anyone?

Naturally, I think Toby Gerhart deserves it, but really doubt he'll get it. Leads the country in rushing yardage and touchdowns playing against some tough run defenses in the Pac 10, took Stanford on his back and led them to much more than respectability this year after some dark, dark seasons.

Ingram should be a close second, but I think he'll probably win it, playing for a national championship contender in a conference that gets a lot more hype.

My darkhorse is Suh from Nebraska. Not too many defensive players win the award, but he's as deserving as any who've come along in quite some time. Total beast.

Colt McCoy could also win it, though I'm sure he'll get votes for his accomplishments in past seasons as well, which should not really be taken into consideration.

If I had a vote it would be:

1. Suh
2. Gerhart
3. Ingram

I think Suh deserves it because he's had more impact on games than almost anyone else I've watched all year and he hasn't had a bad game like all the others have. I also think if ever there was a year that a defensive player should win it, this would be it.

Do we really want the federal government running college football?

I'm all for changing the BCS system, but like you've said I'm getting really tired of the government acting like it's their place to step in and do so. C'mon, seriously, I think our representatives have more important things on which to focus their attention.

Agreed, I think Ingram has the edge going in based on his recent performance in the SEC championship game. Whether you like Florida or not they were the king of the mountain and Ingram almost single handedly dethroned them.

I agree that Gerhart should win it, but probably won't. My guess it will be Ingram.

Agreed. As much as I hate the BCS, Congress should stay out of it.

Brian Kelly, who has coached Cincinnati's football team to a 12-0 record this season and a berth in the Sugar Bowl, will be the new football coach at Notre Dame, two sources have told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Neither Notre Dame nor Cincinnati has confirmed that Kelly has accepted an offer to coach the Fighting Irish, and Kelly could not be reached for comment, but the sources tell Mortensen that Kelly is Notre Dame's choice to replace the fired Charlie Weis.

Suh is a friggin' monster. I'd love too see someone from his position win it, but I think it's unlikely.

Based on your location, I take it you're relieved it's not UConn's coach?

Yeah. Though I've seen lots of people talking about how they voted for him, I doubt seriously if he'll even end up in the top 3. Would be cool though.

About congress and it's role with the BCS:

I can see what a lot of people are saying, that congress has more important things to take care of. They certainly do. With all of the mounting problems in the country, the BCS is not at the top of the list.

However, I am in favor of the government stepping in. In my opinion, I think that government action is the only force that could take down an obviously corrupt system. I see it as the government's role to protect the little guys from being completely steamrolled by the big guys.

I personally think the government should step in. I just think that now may be the wrong time to do it.

Of course, this is just the words of a bitter Ute fan. :D

My point wasn't that the government has better things to do (though they clearly do) as much as it was that the government tends to mismanage things. Seriously, can anyone name one thing the government does really well?

This is a tough one... I agree with the above.... although, I think putting any of those three in any order would do...... I would like to see Ingram win it though. Being a bama fan...and of course he would be the first bama player to win it if I am not mistaken.

Surprisingly enough, you are correct. Ingram would be the first player from Alabama to win it.
Gosh I can not wait. If Ingram Wins it I will go crazy at the Purdue game. He has a great chance and if he would have done better in the Auburn game I think he would have clinched it.
Roll Tide!

Congrats to Ingram. Even though I wanted Suh to win it, I'm not surprised by the final vote. The fact the Bama had never had a Heisman winner before probably swayed a lot of voters.

On another note, I'm happy to report that I received an email today saying that TCU has sold out their initial allotment (including 3,500 student tickets) and has received an additional allotment from the Fiesta Bowl. Looks like they're going to have a strong fan showing after all. Kudos to the Frog fans.

While I thought Toby Gerhart should have won it, I can't complain too much as Ingram is a fine running back. Congratulations to all of the nominees as they are all excellent football players.

Still want to see TCU vs Florida and BSU vs Cincinnati.

Screw the BCS

Agreed. By putting TCU and BSU against each other, the BCS is protecting the other conferences. Can't have the possibility of having 2 teams from non-BCS conferences win BCS games. It is a pathetic move on the part of the BCS.

after researching this issue, it doesnt seem as it was a conspiracy

the fiesta bowl had to take the best team availiable which was unfortunately BSU to play TCU

Hey everyone!

Sorry for the length of this post, but I had a lot to catch up on! :D

I am SO happy that the Fiesta Bowl chose Boise State! Stupid Texas barely escapes Nebraska... I was at a business training event that Saturday so I wasn't able to watch the game, but I was keeping up on the score. I could not BELIEVE that Boise State's BCS fate came down to one second! Colt McCoy just about gave me a heart attack.

Texas is going to get killed by Alabama...

Then after Georgia Tech slipped by Clemson I knew we were going to the Fiesta, but I still didn't think we'd be playing TCU. I thought the Fiesta would take Iowa and the Orange would take TCU. But in hindsight I'm not surprised in the least that the Fiesta took both unbeaten non-AQ's. Nor do I think it was some conspiracy by the BCS Bowls to "protect" the BCS conferences. It was simply the Fiesta taking the two teams that would fit the best, and it just happened that Boise State was the next best team.

I love the Fiesta Bowl. It's been great to the non-AQ's, and for the most part it has done a great job of putting together great matchups.

And unlike so many others, I love this matchup with TCU! First because I have a TON of respect for TCU and Coach Patterson. They've been able to do some wonderful things to help push the non-AQ's further to the top. Second, last year's Poinsettia Bowl was a great game that came down to one stinking point! And had we not missed TWO field goals it could have ended differently. ;) ...but TCU still won a great game.

The last reason why I love this matchup is because no one, and I mean NO ONE is giving Boise State a snowball's chance in this game! That makes me very, very excited. :) Our team always seems to step up when they're an underdog on the big stage. When we've gone to lesser games in the past (excluding last year's game) we have come out rather flat. I think we were up against TCU last year (especially our defense, which is what kept us in the game) but TCU was just a little better. This year I honestly think we're going to beat them.

TCU's offense has definitely improved by leaps and bounds, but our offense has improved as well. Our biggest problem last year was our O-line, and that has finally been sorted out. I believe we're #1 in the country on sacks allowed at like .38 per game, and we have an entire arsenal of dangerous receivers as well as a great power back in Doug Martin. TCU's run defense is still spectacular, but it's their secondary that I think we'll have an advantage on.

Our defense is still really tough, and is still underrated in the eyes of most college fans. Most people think offense when they think Boise State, but it's our defense that kept us in the hunt last year and that has been wonderfully consistent this year. The only thing we could do better at is putting pressure on the opposing quarterback. Our run defense is really solid (unless we're playing against Fresno State and Ryan Matthews..heh) and our linebackers have really stepped up this year. We have one of the best Corners in the country in Kyle Wilson, and two outstanding safeties in Jeron Johnson and George Iloka. Iloka is a machine when it comes to tackling in space.

TCU is an outstanding team, and I think they could play with and beat any team in the country. But I feel the same way about Boise State. We're #6 and TCU is #4 because the WAC doesn't have BYU and Utah to boost their SOS. Everyone discounts our win over Oregon, but the fact remains that we dominated the PAC-10 Champ. The reason why Oregon "played so poorly" was because we ripped them apart on both sides of the ball. The game against Oregon was a glimpse of what we're capable of, but no one gives us credit for it. I think that's great, because we're gonna show up in Glendale on January 4th and remind everyone that this little 10 year old Div. IA team is in fact one of the best teams in the country!

:D

...oh, and I'm glad Ingram won the Heisman. Gerhart probably would have won it had Stanford won just one more game. But the important part here is that Tebow wasn't even close! it's too bad Brian Kelly couldn't man up and decide to coach his team in the Sugar Bowl, because I would have loved to see Florida lose. But now I'm afraid the Bearcats will be in such disarray that they will probably get picked apart. ...oh well.
