Meanwhile, it looks like thre's one less Premier League relegation place to worry about. Portsmouth have been placed into administration, nine points will deducted from their tally and – worst of all – it looks like that pillock gets to keep his bell.

However, there is another story of financial peril that seems to have escaped everyone's attention due to the rumblings on the south coast. Chester City have been expelled from the Football Conference with immediate effect – they won't complete their fixtures and face a winding up order on 10th March.

The media are drumming up a lot of dramatic little news segments on Pompey and trying to make it feel like a tragedy. I feel for the fans (except the aforementioned fool with the bell), but quite a few clubs have failed this year, Pompey is merely the biggest failure. So while it makes sense that they grab the headlines, I don't see how they deserve special sympathy.

Ahoy! I've been away a while.... Looking forward to Wayne Bridge punching EBJT square in the mush instead of shaking his hand and getting sent off before the game starts.

Also, Jagielka might start for Everton this weekend. Excellent news with the World Cup coming up, let's hope he finds the form he was in before his injury...

And to whoever it was that put me on to the 'Football Ramble' podcast, thanks! It's really good. What astonished me this week was them talking about the reports coming out of Nigeria that Taribo West is in his LATE FIFTIES!? If it's true, then my goodness.

Looking forward to Colchester vs Brizzle Rovers today.. the promotion push continues!

EDIT: here's the article about Nigeria (via the Observer) Linky

You just wait until you find out Dean Windass' real age. ;)

Meanwhile, Nike have unveiled the kits that will be worn by their affiliated teams this summer in South Africa. As well as the normal gubbins about laser bonded moisture-wicking seams and stuff, they say the shirts are made out of polyester sourced from recycled plastic bottles so they're environmentally friendly.

Here then are Nike's new offerings...

...anyone notice anything unusual about that picture?

The England shirt?
Indeed – there's a non-Nike shirt included in the line up

Did't Nike buy Umbro a few years ago?
You're spot on about Umbro now being owned by Nike, but nonetheless it's a little odd to see a shirt branded with the mark of one manufacturer featured as part of the line up of another – for example, if Adidas were to do a similar line up I doubt they'd feature Reebok shirts.

Looks like we have a game today after all :)

I'm resigned to the fact we're already down to League Two, but am hoping that at least we can maintain some pride and go down above 24th place with 40-ish points. For that to happen we really need to win today, as we're playing fellow strugglers Wycombe.

BTW, has nobody commented on the events at Chester City? Looks like they're done for good :(

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

I've some stitchless lazed welded board shorts. They claim to be 2% lighter than regular shorts and have a lifetime never rip guarantee. To tell you truth, it hasn't made a life-changing difference to my tine at the beach...

Wycombe have two former Tigers in their ranks, Dean Keates and Stuart Green. Mind, the latter might not feature given that his father-in-law is no longer Wycombe manager. :p

I mentioned their expulsion from the football League a few posts back. Where they go from here is anyone's guess, there's apparently a Danish consortium in for them but from what I've read it all looks a little murky to say the least.

What's the current situation with County, by the way? I'd heard that a potential bid to buy the club had been knocked back by the League a few weeks back?

Four of the bottom five play each other today. Hoping for a draw between Bolton and Wolves (although I could live with a Wolves win) and a Portsmouth win.

A heavy Bolton defeat would be most welcome, and I'm happy for Portsmouth to pick up a few wins against relegation rivals considering they're going to have nine points lopped off their tally. Harsh I know, but it's dog eat dogesque down there.

Your guess is as good as mine on that front. The fans are very much being treated as mushrooms. The consortium say they've got it sorted, Cheshire Sports (who own our home ground Edgeley Park) say they're happy with the rental arrangements, the League say that the potential new owners have passed their requirements, and the administrators say they're as surprised as anyone that the deal didn't happen.

So at least one party is lying, but right now we've no idea who or why. In the meantime a rival bid is apparently being put together just in case. We shall see.

Wayne Bridge didn't shake John Terry's hand before kickoff today. If i were him I would have gone with the electric buzzer on the palm.

Bridge should have kicked him in the nuts. That's a proper way to begin a game. Anyways that at least makes the top of the table a little more exciting.

Blimey. A bad, bad injury for Ramsey – it looks Eduardoesque – and the medical folk aren't messing about, he's been stretchered straight off into an ambulance waiting for him at pitchside.

Just saw it live on TV too....
Man... as an Arsenal supporter, I tell you... it brings a tear to one's eye. :(

I am relieved no replays were shown of the incident. Those images would make my stomach turn upside down.

It must be terrible for Shawcross too. He left the pitch in tears. In some ways it was better for him to get a straight red. I'm sure that if he only had gotten a yellow (which some refs would have given, as it was "not deliberate" ), Shawcross would have found it impossible to continue.

But, what happens now? Must we simply accept that lower rated teams "play more aggressively" against us?
It has happened too much to us now.
