A home win v Spurs (a match I'll hopefully be attending) will take Leeds to the Reebok to join both the Bolton fans for another potential Premiership upset.

There's guaranteed to be at least one Championship side in the next round though, Reading v West Brom looks like it might be fairly interesting.

Southampton v Portsmouth might be tasty but will probably be dull.

Wolves v Villa another potential derby.

That's about it in terms of interesting games.

This continues to be a bad year for the top four, with the possible exception of Chelsea. Arsenal once again looking weak at the back...

He wasn't really match fit yet, so we certainly can't pass judgment on him yet. Arsenal need help at the back, so on paper it looks to be a good move.

Snoddy!

He was brilliant playing in the hole, hope Grayson sticks with that tactic for Swindon on Tuesday, we could really do with stringing a few wins together.

The club may not totally nosedive, it's true. But whoever succeeds Ferguson is going to have HUGE boots to fill, an arguably inferior squad to the ones Fergie has had to work with for most of his tenure, and a club in a shakier financial situation than ever. It's not a job that many managers would want.

Pep Guardiola

+ only paid GBP 54 million to refinance:)

Guardiola seems almost too good to be true for any club, even Untited....he's young, has arguably the best squad on earth at his disposal, and you can't much criticize a man that has literally won everything it was possible for him to win.

Timing will be the thing - the club will want Fergie to stay till a replacement is lined up, so a lot of things have to fall into place to make the transition work. Then again, most managers would be willing to leave a club to go to United. Although if I was Guardiola I would not leave Barca till they threw me out...well-run club, best team on earth, in Spain....Do you really want to go to Manchester, or anywhere outside Spain for that matter?

Guardiola won't leave Barcelona until they make him.

Mourinho would be a more realistic Man Utd target. Or Hiddink.

I would explain the weakness at the back by the resting of the entire back 5.. Almunia, Clichy, Vermaelen, Gallas, Sagna. Just saying, like..

Was the Milan derby good, did anyone watch? Quite interested as to Chelsea and United's chances in their respective CL games.

With only Chelsea left out of the big four, I reckon Roberto Mancini is eyeing up that FA Cup...

What a feat that would be... okay maybe not. But at least upstairs will be pleased their money wasn't wasted. A top 4 finish in the league + FA CUP + Carling Cup is very possible this year. Not bad.

Guardiola does have the best squad to deal with and better yet, not much turmoil off the pitch unlike last year with Eto. Even though Barcelona suffered defeat in the King's cup, they're only one point off from where they were in the league last year. I also can't see him leaving. Even if he was fired for some weird reason, him at United? Seems really unlikely.

For some reason I can see United attempting to pull off what Laporta did with assigning Guardiola. Some globally unknown manager to manage one of the biggest clubs in the world. Or maybe that's just my "best hope" speaking, because I'm sure it would be a huge success (for the other top 3) :p

If SAF steps aside in the next year or two, Man Utd will bring in Jose Mourinho.

If maybe four or five years down the road, then I expect the choice will be Laurent Blanc. He played (briefly) for SAF and has done an amazing job at Bordeaux. I just hope the French national team doesn't get to him first.

I doubt Pep happens. But I think no matter what happens, SAF will have a very strong successor. And the academy squad is loaded with Babes/Fledglings potential talent. The controversial Paul Pogba already looks like a special player.

SAINTS IN THE SUPERBOWL!!!!!!:D:D:D:D
Congratulations to Southampton. A remarkable feat. :)

Indeed, yesterday's Arsenal line up was a relatively inexperienced one, and while in Campbell there was a very experienced player in defence it showed that he's been out of action for a while.

The thing is though, as I've mentioned previously criticism of Arsenal's defence isn't based on that one Cup tie. They've looked wobbly at the back for quite a while and you always get the feeling that they're going top concede at some point – a stark contrast to some of the Arsenal teams of old.

So far as transfers are concerned, there seems to be (in the minds of the media and some of the supporters at least) a search for the holy grail of football, the mythical prolific striker. I'd suggest that perhaps this isn't the area of the Arsenal team that needs strengthening the most. After all, they've scored more goals than any team in the division – and they've come from all over the park.

While having a Torresesque or Henry-like striker banging them in week in, week out may seem a desirable notion, if you're relying on one player to get the lion's share of your goals you're facing a problem if he's injured (as Liverpool find out with Torres a couple of times a season) or if the opposition manage to freeze him out of the game. Arsenal's attacking threat comes from a number of attacking players (both forwards and midfielders, plus the likes of Vermaelen chipping in too) and this is what's making them so dangerous at the moment. I think the big problems come in other positions, namely at the back.

Wenger needs to get his goalkeeping situation sorted for one thing – Almunia doesn't impress me as a first choice. I've thought for a while that Hugo Lloris from Lyon would be a good capture for Arsenal – he's young but highly rated, with experience of playing in the Champions League and is starting to lay a claim on the position in the French national side. As for the defence, I think Vermaelen was a good purchase but further strengthening of the defence must surely be considered a priority. Campbell can only be a stop gap measure.

Mourinho - Too defensive? Thinking of the style of play with Dave Sexton.

The Pep thing is because his new deal is a one year extension -> Press link him with clubs looking for a manager at the end of 2010/11. Chance of him becoming bored with Barcelona, not football, and craving a new challenge? Where's our bookie?

Could have Paul Hart for a few weeks:)

Cheers,
OW
