Well, it's transfer deadline day today. There's been the odd deal done, but nothing big yet. Plenty of rumours flying around though :)

Interesting to see that a couple Premier League clubs were interested in Amr Zaki - after his antics at Wigan I would think nobody would touch him.

Then again, Joey Barton has never had trouble finding a club, despite the fact that he's a disgrace of a man.

Is there a big last minute signing out there?.....

Eduardo banned for two matches for diving, as I'm sure you all know by now...

In my opinion EUFA has either done too much or too little here, insofar as many other players should be seeing this ban but rarely do. Eduardo has not been unfairly singled out (since he did dive), but he has been singled out as an example. If UEFA are really serious about punishing players for this I expect to see a LOT more bans this season.

I'm not holding my breath though.

Hmm... Distin the other day and now Heitinga today, not the two defenders I expected, but I think Everton might actually come out of this better than I feared.

And with the lucky win against Wigan on Sunday (right before the winning penalty/goal Wigan was on a 5 man against two counter attack and only a selfish Sincair(?) with a p*** poor finish saved us). Maybe now Moyes can use the break to get some calm and unity into the squad and then maybe we'll play a bit better... </crosses fingers>

SPL TRANSFER TRACKER:
In: Aberdeen (Sorensen), Hamilton (Antoine-Curier), Kilmarnock (Brown), Motherwell (Moutaouakil), Rangers (Rothen)
Out: Celtic (Brown, O'Dea)

Ha ha! For a second there I thought Celtic had sold Scott Brown, which would have been rather nice! Unfortunately it's Mark Brown, goalkeeper to Killie.

I have no idea why none of the Premiership teams haven't woke up and signed Madjid Bougherra, IMOHO the best player currently in Scotland. Apparently he's quite happy here so maybe it's lack of ambition!

Don't give them any ideas! Madjid is one of our most important players and turned down interest from several clubs over the transfer window.

I'm extremely happy knowing that the transfer window has come and gone and we still have all of our star players + our new signing, Jerome Rothen (formerly of PSG).

So, now we have the best defence, best midfield and best attack in the SPL!

Can't wait until the first home game of the Champions League against Sevilla at end of Sept!

Shh! Keep quiet or they'll all be after him!

I can't say I have much positive to say about Phil Brown...
I'm sure we won't receive a particularly warm welcome when we head back down to the Emirates, and unfortunately the same will be true in the reverse fixture. Of course, it goes without saying that we still loves us some XIII in the East Riding, mind. :p

I can't say I have much positive to say about Phil Brown following his stupid stroppy allegation of Fabregas spitting...
Incidentally, in the interests of balance it should be pointed out that the FA report into the spit spat states that the video evidence showed that Fabregas did 'apparently' spit at the ground – something confirmed in a number of the written statements that formed part of the Fabregas defence. The Arsenal captain himself conceded it was 'possible' he did do so but had 'no recollection of it' – he had though stated in the immediate aftermath of the alleged event that 'Not one drop of spit left my mouth...I am certain of that'. He also professed his innocence at spitting at any particular individual in his written statement to the FA, it must be said.

However, the charge ultimately was that there was a clear intent to spit at Horton, and of course there's no real way to prove that there was intent. That was why the charge was not taken further – it was incredibly difficult to prove to the required standard. Although he certainly wasn't found guilty of the charge, it doesn't appear that his total innocence was declared at any point either.

So, it looks like one of three things happened that evening. Either Fabregas did intentionally spit at Horton and has managed to evade punishment, or he absent-mindedly spat onto the ground as he walked into the tunnel not realising Horton just behind him and it was mistakenly seen as a slight against the Hull City assistant-manager, or Phil Brown made the whole thing up because he's a lying liar he is, that lying Phil Brown. Personally, having considered the evidence I'm inclined to think that the second option is the more likely, but given that Piers Morgan reckons the third option is what happened what do I know? :p

Anyway, if you fancy a Phil Brown burning get yourself up here sharpish – given the upset caused by the sale of Michael Turner yesterday (but more on that later) and the lack of a big name signing on the last day of the transfer window, the Duffen/Brown-outers have been gathering voice. Given some of the comments I've heard there's a good chance Duffen and Brown might end up lynched from the West Stand with what's left of Jimmy Bullard's knee ligaments, which ironically would prove their strength and therefore justify the decision to buy him.

Loan action at Hull, but I'll let his nibs give the details.
Er, me? Okay. Yes, we've enjoyed a bit of hot loan action here today with the signing of Ibrahima Sonko, who's joining us for a year from Stoke. Hmm. Not exactly inspiring... for one thing, he's no Michael Turner.

So, Michael Turner... our prize asset gone, to Sunderland of all places for a fee said by some to be £6million, by others to be £8million – but both well below the £12million valuation we'd placed upon him. His being allowed to leave has naturally caused a lot of upset – had he gone for a higher cost to a team expected to finish higher up the table (Liverpool had a £6million bid for him knocked back earlier in the summer, if reports are to be believed) then I think most people would have accepted that. But to lose him to a club we were fighting against relegation with last season rankles. Look, here he is wearing his new shirt now...

It's almost too painful to look at, that picture. :( He looks so good in proper stripes, our Michael...

Overall, I did think we'd strengthened this transfer window – Hunt looks a good purchase and a vast improvement on Halmosi, and Altidore and Ghilas look promising. Personally, I don't get too worried about the lack of big last day signings – it might be exciting watching Sky Sports News and seeing the moves happen and wondering if your team will pick up a good player, but your transfer dealings should be judged on the signings you make across the whole window, not just in a daft 24-hour scramble at the end of it. However, the sale of Turner is a serious concern and I fear it leaves us weakened. Only time will tell if it proves to be a shrewd move to cash in on a player whose head had apparently been turned by the interest shown in him, or a grave mistake to lose one of the most reliable members of our team so cheaply. I hope it's the former, but I feel it'll be proved to be the latter.

We'll just have to see how we fare in our next league match, which is against... ah. Sunderland. Bugger. :(

Thing is, if the Ref spots it, he gets a yellow. Ref doesn't spot it, 2 match ban. That's hardly consistant. Also, Article 20 (1) of UEFA's rules, states: Decisions made by the referee on the field of play are final and may not be reviewed by Uefa’s disciplinary bodies.

Maybe UEFA should impose an automatic one or two match ban for diving in addition to the yellow if the ref sees it. Maybe diving in the box should be a straight red?

But you are right, as it stands there are two very different punishments out there depending on when you get caught.

We called him Vinegar of Castlemilk (local Glasgow slum).
Good riddance to him, he was a constant thorn in our side although his and Nakamura’s failure to score goals late in the season cost Celtic the title.;)

We called him Vinegar of Castlemilk (local Glasgow slum).
We'll probably call him Vennegoor of Hessleroad (local road to... erm... Hessle).

We've been linked with him for a few months now, and it looks to be a decent enough signing – an experienced international who's been a proven scorer in a couple of European top divisions can't be that bad.

However, I'm sure it won't put off some of the moaners. I expect there'll be a few comments bemoaning the cost of putting his name onto a shirt and how it's nothing more a cynical money-making plan by Duffen (Duffen Out!, then). The fact that the cost is the same no matter which name and number you choose is immaterial. ;)

In other former-Old Firm-based foreign strikers who are now plying their trade in East Yorkshire news, Daniel Cousin launched a blistering attack on Phil Brown after his move to Burnley had been all but finalised on Monday. He'd taken umbrage at being substituted a mere 20 minutes into the Spurs defeat after a frankly terrible performance – and with his bags packed and a queue of City supporters ready and waiting to personally drive him to Lancashire he wasted little time in letting the press know what he thought of Brown.

Unfortunately, no sooner had the stroppy striker said his piece than Burnley secured the signature of David Nugent and the deal was off, leaving him stuck here in Hull. :D

I can forsee a lot of reserve team football and little else in Daniel's future until January comes around...

EDIT: Just seen this – Chelsea have had a transfer ban slapped on them for the next two transfer windows, after signing up young Gael Kakuta from Lens in a naughty fashion. Cripes.

Well well well, where do we start with the football?

Hull City, urgh, what a nightmare. Our signings had been OK at best during the summer and to loose Turner was such a huge blow, especially as the fee could be as low as £4 million. I don't blame the lad for wanting to improve his football and I am sure he has a great future, but it tells you a lot about the management at the club when a player wants to move to a club that only finished one place above us last season. If he had gone to a 'big 4' fair play to the lad, but Sunderland!

There is something fishy going on within the club. One week they had £12 million to spend and then they sell our star player for between £12 and £4 million (make that £8 million) so who did we splash the £20 million out on on transfer deadline day, no-one. Not even a sniff.
