So much for the 'Its unlikely for Chelsea to drop points given their current form' rhetoric

Ha!

USA goalkeeper Tim Howard saves England striker Jermaine Defoe's penalty to preserve a 2-2 draw...

...Hmmmm...I wonder if we'll ever hear THAT again. :D

Very annoyed that Spurs blew another two-goal lead and couldn't get three points. I can't help but think that games like that will drop them to fifth by season's end.

I wouldn't mind, under different circumstances. :)

Any news on Bullard's gammy leg Jaffa? I'm sure everyone up there is holding their breath....

...and what is up with the Potters? Beattie allegedly headbutted Pulis after the match although I don't see how that's possible if the manager was wearing his usual baseball cap...

I watched the rebroadcast last night and it was actually pretty good match to watch. Saha and Yakubu made a real impact when they came on, they were constantly making some nice exchanges in their approach play. Lennon had some good play up the wings but the man of the match had to be Everton's Seamus Coleman, who consistently beat his markers up the right and put in a handful of quality crosses, two of which led to goals.

Everton really pressed well in the second half but if Spurs are serious about a top four finish they'll have to finish these sorts of games off.

He had his scan at 6pm this evening – apparently we'll hear the results tomorrow. Apparently there's minimal swelling on the joint, which the medical types reckon is a good sign. But we'll see.

I must admit to being slightly amused by it all, although I'd heard it was Pulis who headbutted Beattie rather than the other way around. Hopefully, it'll turn out to be this year's Phil Brown's Half time Team Talk... :D

"I think you can attribute Stoke's problems in the second half of the season to the fact that Pulis lost the dressing room when he nutted James Beattie,' the pundits will no doubt tell us. :p

EDIT: This just in from the BBC – they're reckoning six to eight weeks for Bullard's stricken knee.

EDIT EDIT: Phil Brown is on Sky Sports News now, confirming that it's a sprain to Jimmy's medial ligament, and he expects him to be out until mid-January. Brown reiterated too that this new injury is completely unconnected to his previous knee problems.

:D I think you've nailed it. Hmmm, creating stories is so very easy, maybe I should consider a career in football punditry.

That's probably the best news - it's the other leg. That's a lot of games to miss though.

Indeed, the period over Christmas covers a lot of games. However, given his past knee problems (albeit with his other leg), it's a bit of a relief that it's not a longer lay off. We'll have to see how he gets on.

Obviously we'll miss him, but it has to be remembered that we were Bullard-less for the win over Everton – so we can win without him, we can!

Will the last healthy defender for Man United please turn out the lights? I guess that just leaves you, Evra. Good thing the light switch isn't too far up the wall. :D

What's their back four going to look like in Wolfsburg tomorrow? Fletcher, Carrick, Evra, and an emergency draftee from the Academy like Matty James or the Chairman's son? That's insane.

Good thing Utd are already qualified for the UCL knockout rounds, but they've got a big test against Villa this weekend. Hopefully Vidic gets over his flu and Wes Brown is ready to come back by then.

Word is Fergie's told Mike Phelan to take his boots along. :D

It's going to be interesting – the squad includes a number of youngsters so I reckon Fergie will play the kids and see how they fare. He's certainly not got anything to lose by doing so, it's not a high pressure game on them.

Maybe it's time for Man U to bring back the 19th century all-out attack formations that used one, two or no defenders :D

As a Liverpool fan, I'm loving it. Earlier in the season the media were crowing over Benitez's failure to draft in decent cover up front (a valid criticism, to be fair). BUT NOW the haters of the 'pool and assorted media hacks are faced with the fact that Manchester United and Arsenal are really not looking much better at the moment. United does have greater depth, and that is why they made it to the CL knockout stages...but they are looking very, very thin at the moment. Meanwhile Wenger is facing the exact same dilemma up front with RVP as Liverpool is with Torres, with the difference that Eduardo and Vela are better options than Babel and N'Gog.

So while Liverpool have been hit earlier and have the thinnest squad of the big four, it does not mean other big sides won't suffer similar issues.

It was entertaining enough. I just didn't like the outcome.

But Rooney and Berbatov are also out of the Wolfsburg match, and Macheda isn't on the UCL roster or otherwise not travelling with the team. So that too won't work. It's going to be a weird, weird match tomorrow. I definitely don't expect a win, but I hope they keep it competitive and entertaining.

Gotta have a lot of depth to compete in all those fixtures. I'm just glad that United has a lot of quality in the reserves and academy sides. But most squads would look thin when seven of their top eight defenders are injured or out sick. I guess SAF is kicking himself now for selling Pique back to Barça and for loaning out Cathcart. :p

On paper, it should be 3 points for Wolfsburg. But United have an annoying habit of winning regardless of the circumstances.

It will be interesting to see how Wolfsburg approaches this match. Logic seems to dictate putting pressure on the patchwork defense as much as possible, but United are experts at counterattacking football so even an injury-plagued squad will present some danger.

I think it will end up being a draw, like their last game with a radically different team

See? An annoying habit of winning. ;)

Didn't expect United to win so comfortably, but does this really have any impact on Owen's England future?

Owen hat-trick, didn't see that one coming. As much as I'd like to see him keep scoring, and be in the squad going to SA, I just can't see it. Been known to be wrong though ;)

Another story coming out of Europe tonight – apparently two CSKA Moscow players have failed doping tests. Potentially this could see them thrown out of the Champions League, one would presume that Wolfsburg would progress in their place.

Could CSKA really have thrown away their place in the UCL knockout phase due to a couple of doses of Sudafed? Crazy.

Pretty impressive match by a patchwork United side today. Then again, Wolfsburg's form in the Bundesliga has not been great lately. Fletcher did a nice job shutting down Grafite. And what a wonderful move by Obertan to assist Owen's second goal. It did help that Wolfsburg was very poor tonight, missing a couple of golden opportunities on goal.

Was watching a tight, tight affair between Leeds and Kettering Town in the FA Cup. Then deep into the second period of extra time, after already trying 40-something shots on Goal, Leeds puts two through within a minute of each other! Will be a fun next leg at Old Trafford.

Beautiful.

Old Trafford will be messy/violent/carnage.
