In more US news the Guardian posted a video of New York's new "soccer specific" stadium for the Red Bulls in the late stages of construction (it should be ready for the beginning of the 2010 season). It looks quite nice actually....

i wonder at how many sport clubs Red Bull stops ... just having read that not only do they own a club in the US, Austria and a small one in Germany but also one in Brasil

i wonder what would happen if the german and austrian ones would be drawn against each other in the UEFA cup or similiar ?

on the stadium i hear it's similiar in design to the klagenfurt stadium (which is nice though underused)

Obviously, reports on such matters are often embellished by the press – especially where stuff goes on behind closed doors and there are conflicting stories – but a further tidbit on the Pulis/Beattie spat at the Emirates came to my attention today.

If what I've read is correct, it seems that – when he attempted to headbutt Beattie – Pulis was stark bollock naked. Apparently he'd been freshening up after the match, heard Beattie moaning about him when he came out the shower, and raced to confront the striker – his towel falling away from him as he did so.

This is a story that keeps on giving, it really is. :D

They probably won't stop till the drink itself drops in popularity.

That is incredibly funny...I think Hull City are off the hook now with the pundits. "That" halftime team talk on the pitch at Eastlands has got nothing on this story!

looking that from 2004 to 2008 they sold 500 million cans more _every single year_ ( from under 2 billion to 4 billion) i suppose their marketing is on the 'working' side

if they continue at this rate i expect 10 football clubs, 5 formula one racing teams and 3 ice hockey teams by the year 2015-2017

Wow. I remember the first time I had a Red Bull. I very nearly got sick.

I'll stick to Beer and Scotch.

If it's anything like last year half the ground will walk out early, so stick around until the final whistle and I'll have a better chance of spotting you. :)

That sounds like a significant proportion of the Arsenal support, albeit without the Apple cap. ;)

I suspect we won't get a particularly warm welcome at the Emirates, however I expect you to set a good example to those around you and not be mean about us. :p

I think a few of the home supporters fear that's the case with their seats as well, so they keep themselves nice and quiet just in case... :D

Ouch! Jaffa, if you're not in London for the Arsenal game, I'll do my very best to make it to Hull to say hello in March. Seems the least I could do, not sure how many more opportunities to visit the KC I will be getting! ;)

Red Bull spend 20% of their turnover on marketing, one of the biggest budgets anywhere.

In the same glass? I'm partial to a vodka + Red Bull when I'm up the town and had enough of beer.

Anyway, all Scottish teams out of Europe, Scotland still doesn't have a manager. The only saving grace is that the SPL is quite interesting this year with a 4-way battle at the top.

Never mixed, one or the other please! Though I'm not averse to a little G&T now and again.

It will be interesting to see who ends up in the Scotland job. Time for a foreign manager again, perhaps?

I never know how the SFA are thinking, if it should be home grown man or somebody from abroad. They've got until February to appoint a new manager, that's when the draw is made for the European Championships and the manager should be on hand to do the wheeling and dealings of the fixture list.

The favourite appears to be Craig Levein who has done very well at Dundee Utd. He's shaped the club and coaching to really develop young players, in a way I'd be sorry to see Utd loose him. He's bought a consistency to Utd and they are challenging for the league so in a way he can't really do much more. However the SFA don't welcome change, and I'm sure if Levein took charge he'd also want to re-organise the coaching and junior levels. That's exactly what Scotland needs so not what the SFA will do!

Just bee reading Michael Gray's Blog on the BBC's website and noticed this reply

Great Blog as always!! Tough times at the minute but with a bit of luck I honestly feel we can turn things around.

Nobody may really care, but I suppose I should mention that the FIFA Club World Cup is underway in Abu Dhabi...though the UEFA and CONMEBOL champions don't play till the semis.

There is a small chance the Columbus Crew might become the first North American and MLS team to make it to the Club World Cup if we win the CONCACAF Champions League (which is unlikely but as a supporter hope springs eternal), in which case the tournament would become much more interesting to me. The thought of playing the UEFA Champions League winner in an international tournament would be simply awesome. ;)

Blimey! Hopefully the Crew will give them what for.

I hope so as well - but first we have to get through the Mexicans, which is no small matter!

Meanwhile, Dean Ashton has been forced to retire at the relatively tender age of 26. Poor lad.

That's a rough call to have to make, but if his body isn't up to it I suppose he has little choice. At 26 he could have played for maybe 10 years or more at a high level, and that's a shame.

Can't remember the last time I saw so many draws in the premiership. Anybody see Figueroa's goal? Heard it on the radio, sounds like it was the goal of the season.

I saw it, free-kick just inside his own half, sees keeper off his line, hits it perfectly, goes over the keepers head and into the back of the net.

United lose, Chelsea draw - that's good for just about everybody.

Great strike by Figueroa....though he was beaten for the equaliser a minute later.

It could go either way. Neither team is playing particularly well right now. Arsenal have more to lose since they could conceivably still mount a title challenge.

I'm predicting a scored draw, but both teams need a win.

Fergie, Wenger, Benitez, Moyes, John Coleman (Accrington Stanley!), Southend United's Steve Tilson, and John Still of Dagenham and Redbridge.

I claim my pub quiz points. :)

One manager clearly not on the list is Brian Laws, who as our Wendies will be aware is now seeking gainful employment.

Indeed. Pity he's gone, he hasn't done a 'bad' job, but I do have to question some of his signings (Jeffers, Varney, Feeney). No idea who we'll get, but who wants to come to Wednesday knowing there's no money for transfers and if you don't make an instant impact you'll probably be gone after 10 games?
