I've been away, wallowing in shame due to the play of the Flyers. (well that, and moving to a new state) Have you heard anything new?

I'm thinking at some point, we're going to trade the whole team to Kansas City for a bunch of BBQ.

Dude
My son's varsity high shcool team could beat the Flyers right now...:D

How do you think I feel, I live in Philly

Peace

Dude
Trust me, If the Flyers keep playing the way their are playing expect some major trades over the Christmas holidays, count on it:D

Well...... there won't be any trades over the Christmas holidays because of the annual NHL trade freeze that runs from Dec 19th through Dec 27th.

But yeah, I expect a big shake up in Philly at some point after the 27th. I've heard that even Jeff Carter isn't untouchable.

The Flyers are doing terrible. A Cup-contending team the last few years now down in the hole, though the Ducks are the same right now.

This is a really exciting season. So many things have been unexpected as far as the rankings go.

I can't wait for the outdoor game on Jan 1st, or the olympics, for that matter.

All hail King Marty.

104 shutouts and counting......

Due to my intense jealousy, and the poor play of my home Flyers, I will be a spiteful bastard and say this:

I was at Game 7 in 2001 when the Avs beat the Devils. So neener neener. :D

And yes, Brodeur is incredible to watch. I was a lucky Avs season ticket holder that got to watch Forsberg, Sakic, Roy, and for a few months, Bourque.

Brodeur >> Roy

That Avs team was outstanding.

Do you guys think he will make Team Canada for the olympics? If so, first, second or third?

I think that Brodeur will be Canada's starting goaltender.

We'll find out on the 30th.....

1. Brodeur wasn't nearly as quotable. Ask Roenick. But I do believe Brodeur is by far the stronger and more consistent goalie.

True. I think that's because Brodeur is a steady, team guy, and Roy is an unpredictable, plays-for-himself kind of guy.

2. If Canada chooses any other goalie, it will be a travesty.

Not necessarily.

While I agree Brodeur should get the start, I can see Yzerman choosing Luongo as the starter as a strategy: As the hometown goalie, naming Luongo starter would be great for Vancouver. It would become Luongo's job to lose. If Luongo wins, Canada wins. If Luongo loses a game, Brodeur goes in with something to prove (not that he really has anything to prove). Once he's in, I doubt he would come out.

I can't wait until the Olympics....... until then though, the World Junior Championships is going on right now. I hope I'll be able to see some of it..... EDIT: looks like the NHL Network is going to be carrying some of the games this weekend. Sweet.....

********. C'mon. Over half the teams Bordeur has had to stand up against his entire career have been practically worthless. I'm not saying he's not one of the greatest goal tenders of all time, but you could have thrown Roy's pads out in front of the net and they would have stopped half the teams Brodeur has been up against. Let's take a look at the firepower Roy had to go up against: Red Wings (nuff said right there), The LA Kings, Sharks, the Stars, Calgary, Edmonton, Canucks... Who was prime out in the East? Rangers, Flyers, Pens. That's about it.

Roy also stopped playing before tons of new rules went into effect, not to mention the shoot-outs.

Roy>>>>Brodeur.

uh huh

Roy played more than half his career for the habs who play in the East. 12 years for them and only 8 for the avs. And he won his 3 vezinas while playing for montreal.

Marty > Roy

He's won 4 vezinas, has the all time wins & shutout records, and better career GAA & save percentage than Roy.

Exactly. And by the time Brodeur retires, he'll probably have another 20 or so shutouts and 100 or so more wins.

Here's a cool stat: Martin Brodeur has 104 shutouts and counting...... Georges Vezina only had 103 wins in his career.

Marty >>> Roy

Here in Vancouver everyone wants Luongo in net. Surprised no one even mentioned him in this thread...

I did........

However, he's not playing as well as he needs to lock up the #1 spot.

Holy crap, what happened to the Rangers today?

I kept getting ESPN alerts on my phone as the Flyers kept scoring. It was awesome.

They're just getting the Flyers fans' hopes up so that they can be dashed on national TV, outdoors. Looking forward to the game, but am wary of the result. The Bruins are excellent.

just got back from the bruins game.. :D they did a great job kicking the **** out of atlanta. can't wait for friday.

My kids were at the Flyers/Rangers game last night on their way to the "Winter Classic" (with a stop in Times Square tonight) Simon Gagne showed up to play:) Finally...

Sounds like your kids are having one hell of a week.

Please ask one of them to send a picture of the game to you so it can be posted.

If I weren't unemployed at the moment, I would have blown some vacation on that game in a heartbeat. Here's hoping I can line up some work soon. (I hear there's a tablet coming...) :D

I was on ticketmaster earlier and they had some pairs of tickets left... too bad they were $350 per seat. There's no way I could afford to drop $700 to go to this game, no matter how awesome it's going to be.

The latest forecast for tomorrow is looking a bit more promising. Earlier in the week, they had said temps around 40 and possibility of rain. It looks like its going to be a bit colder, so hopefully any precipitation will come in the form of snow. They can play in the snow, but if it rains and there's standing water on the ice, they'll have to postpone it to Saturday.

Apparently it's snowing there today. I'm really looking forward to watching this. I hope it's actually an entertaining game.

I'm watching coverage of the practice skates right now on the NHLHD channel, and it's snowing nicely. They're calling for mid 30's as the temp for tomorrow.

I'm hoping to catch the World Junior Championship game today between Canada and USA.

Tough loss for the USA in the tournament today. As a goalie myself, I *hate* shootouts. All the kids on the bench were smiling and having a good time. I have a feeling that both goalies were on the verge of puking. I know I am when we have shootouts.

Man Canada has a talented team though.

Hopefully the US can beat Finland and get another shot.
