Wow, that is quite poor Honda engine.

But Mclaren is using well the same engine?

Oh yeah, thats the same power plant inside the Brawn, McLaren and Force India. One of the problems with the old Honda engine was lack of mapping, it was never mapped below 12,000rpm so whilst it was good at the top end, it was a dog getting there. When the driver exited a corner and put his foot down he didn't know what he would get, loads of power which would cause the back-end to step out, or nothing. In a way Honda leaving is probably one of the best things that could have happened to the team.

Really enjoyed qualifying, whats also amazing is the Brawns were the heaviest cars in final qualifying too! They are going to do a disappearing act very quickly tomorrow in the race... rest will be competing for 3rd. (Reliability being a factor obviously)

Fuel levels have been released by the FIA:

What this is showing is that the two Brawns are not running light and their pace is very genuine. Of the teams that got through to the shoot-out, only Glock was heavier. Expect (with no safety car) to see the Brawns stop around lap 23-24.

Looks like barring any incidents at the start it will be a Button v Barichello race. I can't wait to watch it. Hopefully there will be some action with the Toyotas coming through from the back and the mixed up midfield.

It's looking like a top GP.
I'll definitely get up to watch it live...

3rd + 10th!

WOW! You've out qualified both Renault Renault's!!

...and poor little jarno...

Well I think this could be an interesting theme of the season. Brawn GP outqualified Mclaren (obviously) and Toyota and Williams were pretty close, so it'll be interesting to see how long the works teams put up with this. I can see a return to the days of factory engines (remember Mugen-Honda and Supertech?) - maybe Cosworth could get back in???

For Brawn, they seem to have a massive advantage. They have two experienced drivers who know how to set up bad cars and test 'em properly (old Jordans and Benettons anyone), and a years headstart in designing their car. All they need is some more partners to join them through sponsorship and they could be set for an excellent year.

I don't think that we will go back to factory engines. Merc will be getting £12m per year from Brawn and Force India (I imagine it is more from Force India as they also use the gearbox I believe) so it is a good revenue source.

With most teams the engine is a separate organisation to the chassis designers. The Renault engine is designed in France, McLaren in Germany, Toyota in Japan so I think the only team who has a link to the engine design is probably Ferrari so I don't think most 'factory' teams get an advantage over customer teams.

Spook, how do you find watching the races now? I used to hate it! Whenever the car stops on track I wanted to see smoke and flames coming from the engine. I always dreaded an electronics failure (thankfully I never had one).

I remember when JB got pole in Aus back in 2006 and had a dog of a race, lets hope tomorrow is a bit better!

The races last year were fine, because my hopes weren't up and I hadn't been involved at the start.

But throughout the whole of practise and quali I was nervous. Working for so long and so hard getting something ready probably has everyone the same way at the beginning of a season, especially one where everything is so new.

Mainly I care about beating Renault, I have a friend there and I don't want then to win again.

I think Red Bull will have the match of Renault for the first few races. I just have a real worry about the reliability of the Red Bull. Adrian Newey builds some good cars but they have a habit of falling apart. Hopefully now you have Geoff Willis he should be able to bring some reliability in. Getting rid of Geoff was the worst thing that happened at Honda whilst I was there.

The problem, from what I understand, is that the staff won't be getting a bonus at Brawn this year so if they get a 1-2 they get nothing. Although saying that the feeling of winning is something amazing, I will never forget the '06 Hungarian GP (even though I was in the cinema during the race and missed it!). I think the best Red Bull can hope for tomorrow is 3rd with a 2 car finish.

Good luck!

Didn't Force India get the KERS from from Mclaren too?

Yeah, they have the ability to run it but are not yet, I think they want to run it from Barcelona onwards. Again that maybe more income from Force India but I guess they may do some data sharing.

It's great to see Brawn GP at the top of the grid - far too early to make any pronouncements but I hope it means new faces at the top.

I wish I could watch the race.

Cool. See everyone at 7 yeah?:p

Oh yeah, maybe going to the pub tonight wasn't the best idea. I did bump into some Brawn GP employees though and wished them all luck. 7 am will not be fun, urgh......

Hehe - slept in (meant to watch the whole thing), but the grid walk ... :) Nice to see a Mclaren engineer spying over a Brawn!:p
