Hope the Felipe recovers; I just downloaded and watched the qualifications and race last night and I had to go back and read about all this. Very unfortunate and hope he recovers soon.

As with the Renault incident, yes Renault is at fault, but they should just be fined €50,000 like everyone else.

Briatore was quoted as saying,
When a driver lacks results, he opens the book of excuses and begins: the fault is the weather's, a spectator's sunglasses, a spin on the straight, this and that...

Meanwhile, Piquet decided to go personal by stating,
Flavio is a business man, but he doesn't understand s*** about F1. He's my manager, but in his role of team boss he doesn't respect me. He only thinks about money, at how much money he can pocket in everything he's involved, he's a man with no friends. Every day everyone asks me what's going on, so why should I always keep quiet?

I know none of us have the room to talk...that said Piquet needs to just be quite and go sit down. He has proven time and time again that he isn't good enough to drive at the F1 level. He's capable, but that's not what the team needs.

Even the commentators on Speed joke about how bad he is! A Renault spun out a few weeks back and they said (paraphrasing), "Who's that?", which was quickly followed by, "Piquet...Ooops, no Alonso. Oh well when in doubt assume it's Piquet."

I bet he's out by the next race, if not shortly thereafter.

That wasn't a wing failure, that was indeed a sudden loss of downforce (and gain of lift)

1.All right then Spook, what is the word around the paddock about BrawnGP?

2.Are they done for the year or were these last two races simple temporary glitches?

3.Will McClaren regain their winning form from last year, or have they simply gotten a momentary reprieve?

4.Is RBR out of gas now too?

5.Is there any truth to the rumor that MS may come back in @Ferrari?

....

I have no idea.

Working in the industry does not provide much more insight (unless you're travelling and/or know people all over the place) than the every day fan gets.

As for RBR running out of gas; most people (in and outside) were not expecting a performance that good. Hungary is a very similar track to Monaco in many ways, so compare to our performance there.

On the other hand, they were expecting Brawn to excel...

Well I hope the best for you guys. Webber & Vettel seem like they have a little fire in 'em.
Brawn though.. I can't help but wonder if they are in a midseason slump or simply done... we'll know in about 4 weeks.

i love Schumacher but i don't want to see him back.

i hate it when people retire and then come back.

Schumy's manager says he'll not be driving.

Also BMW are withdrawing at the end of the season.

Just when you think things are starting to get back on track. :(
My wife and I were talking about F1 last night. She said that F1 isn't as relevant or interesting as ALMS is as long as there is no USGP for us to attend. I agree. I'm happy to see BMW leaving F1 if that allows them to improve their focus on the RLR BMW M3 GTR program in ALMS. I would love to see them start a LMP program in ALMS/LMS. That would be a fraction of the cost of a F1 program.

Not surprised BMW is leaving. Their performance has dropped off a cliff and considering how well Kubica and Heidfeld were last year, I am not inclined to blame the drivers, but the car. So that means an expensive overhaul beyond what they need to spend for the 2010 rules, so they might as well cut their losses.

I'd love to see them create an ALMS Prototype like the old V12 LeMans Spyder (just make it closed-coupe, please. Spyders are ugly) and take it to Audi.

Toyota appears to have a good car, they just don't have good drivers. If they can Truli and Glock and get somebody like Hulkinberg (sic) and maybe Heiki, they could be contenders.

Schumacher makes shock F1 return

Michael Schumacher will make a shock return to Formula 1 to replace injured Ferrari driver Felipe Massa.

The seven-time world champion, 40, retired at the end of 2006 but has agreed to drive at the European Grand Prix in Valencia on 23 August.

Massa fractured his skull in Hungarian GP qualifying and may be out for the rest of the year.

Schumacher, who is a Ferrari advisor said; "For team loyalty reasons I can't ignore this unfortunate situation."

...

"Ferrari intends to entrust Michael Schumacher with Felipe Massa's car for as long as the Brazilian driver is not able to race," a statement said.

"Michael Schumacher has shown his willingness and in the next few days he will undergo a specific programme of preparation at the end of which it will be possible to confirm his participation in the championship starting with the European Grand Prix."

What price him securing a point or two at Valencia?

That wasn't a wing failure, that was indeed a sudden loss of downforce (and gain of lift)

My bad. The point I was making was that they took a safety decision at the time to withdraw the second car; something Renault perhaps should have considered for Fernando when they realised there was a problem with his wheel.

ahem

AHEM!! told you so...

Maybe he'll cheat less this time round? Anyway we'll see if he even gets to start. His "racing" (actually more like crashing) career in German Superbikes has left him with lots of back and neck niggles. He may not actually be fit to drive.

Should be interesting to see how he gets on in car he's never been in, on a circuit he's never driven.

If he out qualifies Raikkonen that would be a so embarrassing!

I think they say hes never driven the car before as the teams are limited on testing so all the time would of been spent on Massa. The cars would of changed a tiny bit from when he last raced. He gets the Friday and Saturday practise though, be a bit embarrassing if he stalls on the grid. I guess he does not have any championship to worry about so will just go for it.
