Has he never driven that car? I was under the impression that he does some testing as a Ferrari consultant.
Testing is banned. He has not driven the car in current form, unless he's done it in secret and against the rules (which I wouldn't put past Ferrari to do).

^ mmmm, veeeeery interesting.

C'mon Michael, show 'em how it's done :D

It's going to be interesting.

Knowing Ferrari they've had a totally different car being developed behind the scenes, via some loop hole they've found/paid Max for.

The cars would of changed a tiny bit from when he last raced. He gets the Friday and Saturday practice though, be a bit embarrassing if he stalls on the grid.

I just hope he fits. (Has memories of Mansell and McLaren).

I guess he does not have any championship to worry about so will just go for it.

While he is out of the running for the Driver's Championship and Ferrari is out of the running for the Constructor's Championship, any points he can score will help Ferrari rise in the CC and every position they gain is more money for the team along with benefits like better garage space/location, paddock space and subsidized freight for the "fly-away" races.

Not to mention the potentially large TV ratings boost (translation: huge wads of cash for F1) that Schumi may bring, especially if he does well.

I havn't been on here for ages!

Anyway I can't wait to see Schui back. You will see him at his best, just like 1999 after he broke his leg, nothing to loose really and just go for it.

My question is, what happens if he is quick, I mean really quick, would he be tempted by a drive next year?

FOTA proposes quali shakeup:

http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/090730123649.shtml

It is believed FOTA's desired change would see five cars on track at a time, with the two fastest progressing to take on the next group of competitors.

I personally love the current format. Everyone has a chance at the same time. Who is to say who competes against who with FOTAs proposal?

Apparently Ferrari is asking for permission to have Schumacher test for a day despite the ban. I can only wonder what the teams are thinking, "Oh hell no.", versus "Yes, this is good for the sport.".

The new way does add more excitement though.

Meh - the current system seems to be the bastard love child of the old 1hr 12 laps system, and the single lap system. It doesn't have the openness of the old system, and we're now almost guaranteed to miss the pole lap.

I'd quite like them to swop the last session for a super-pole style system.

The man from Williams, he say no.

And well said too. Alguersuari did not get to test so the German cheat doesn't either.
That has been my opinion since the request first made news. Jaime got nothing more than a single straight line test prior to Hungary. Give Schumi a single straight line test and call it a day.
