I remember they had (three car teams) in British Touring cars when there weren't enough teams taking part.

There was a provision in at least one previous Concorde Agreement that is there were less than a certain number of cars on the grid (18 or 20, I believe), then teams would be required to run a third car to bring the total up to that minimum (though only two cars could score Constructor's points, I believe all three drivers could score points if they finished in scoring positions).

Sounds reasonable for an expanded grid if they wanted to too.

Speaking of Concorde Agreements, a new one was signed, as it not? How long does that take the agreement out to?

YouTube [co-founder] injects cash into US F1 team

YouTube co-founder and CEO Chad Hurley has joined the US Formula One team as its primary investor.

The boss of Google's online video-sharing empire hopes to see the US F1 team, led by Ken Anderson and Peter Windsor, win in the motorsporting world's Grand Prix tournament in 2010 and beyond.

Hurley will pump money into the US team's corporate strategy.

The YouTube main man "will be a major force behind the team’s goal to showcase that a US-based team with American technology can compete again in Formula One and eventually win races in the most prestigious and most celebrated motorsport in the world," gushed the American F1 team in a press release.

Presumably this means YouTube might also have its logo splashed across the team's motors, which strikes us as intriguing given the number of grumbles expressed in the past by F1's commercial owners, who have tried to stop fans sharing videos online.

Such as this little film shot by your El Reg correspondent on an Intel-sponsored day trip to Silverstone in 2007.
The Register.

Silly boy, odds on Mr YouTube is about to get a lot less wealthy.

oh well, good luck!

The "US-based team with American technology" are using a UK built and designed Cosworth engine right?
I don't know where the current ones are designed and built, but it certainly started out that way.
USF1 plans to show-off American talent and tech from their home in Charlotte, North Carolina.

However, its cars will use a Cosworth engine, which as the engine maker points out on its website "began life in a small workshop in London in 1958 when it was founded by Mike Costin and Keith Duckworth."

It was bought by car giant Ford in 1998 before changing ownership again in 2004.

Decent qualifying. Luca was crap, but hopefully he'll improve at Spa. Otherwise they need to put Marc Gene in the car or start using race weekends as a test for the 2010 car. ;)

I'll be amazed if they stick with him at Spa after that miserable performance.

wow, lot of action on here.
nice race.
don't want to ruin it for everyone.

anyone dvr forever Ferrari?

Last week I fell asleep during the gp. I wonder how long we are going to have to put up with Valencia particularly when 'exciting' tracks like Silverston always seem to have their future hanging.

'exciting' tracks........I can't wait for Spa to start.:D

It must be the week for veteran F1 drivers what with Barrichello winning in Valencia and Fisichella claiming pole for Force India at Spa (not to mention Trulli joining him on the front row). I was still at school when Barrichello and Fisichella came on the F1 scene.

FIA to launch probe on '08 Singapore GP

I wonder if this is Nelson Piquet getting his revenge against Flavio Briatore?

Piquet is a ninny. A spoiled little girl of a ninny at that. Surely if they did call for a spin it would have been recorded on the radio at some time. And if they have a secret code of some sort it is his word against theirs. And I wouldn't put it by them, Flavio is a shady character in m y book anyway as are all F1 team bosses. Piquet Jr. was fired for being crap. Let it go.

I like Valencia, but agree it's got nothing on SPA. But at least it has variety, which is something that many (if not most) of the "TilkeTracks" seem to lack.

Once again, GP2 put on an incredible show. I am really glad that SPEED now carries the Feature Race instead of the Sprint Race.

And Mark Webber's Chief Mechanic needs some glasses. :p Hate to see a driver penalized for something outside of his control, but two clearly unsafe releases in almost as many races...
