Man, I saw this when I was checking news this morning. Talk about not good. 🙁 I wasn't following F1 at the time when Schumacher was racing, so I was very much looking forward to seeing him race as well as the good effect it was having on the sport.

Certainly a disappointment for everyone except Luca Badoer.

Since test drivers cannot test, I am guessing Badour also has zero experience in the car since the formal F1 testing ban took effect? And when did that ban take effect?
I expect he has some driving experience of the car during development during 2008, but it might be 6-9 months since he's been in the car in a formal testing/driving role.
What Ferrari should so is give it to Sebastien Bourdais (sic). He's available and he has experience with the Ferrari powerplant, at least. 😛

Now that I think about it, I almost wonder why the Drivers' Association has not complained about Schu not being allowed to "test". In the context of replacing an injured driver, I would think that allowing one drive as a familiarization exercise could be seen as a safety issue rather than a "test" per se. If the driver is unfamiliar with the limits of the car he is much more likely to exceed them...

Badoer would have tested over last winter and into spring before the season started. Jaime Alguersuari only got straight line tests before driving in Hungary, and Romain Grosjean will get even less before Valencia (or Belgium, depending on whether Renault are banned. The reason why we're discussing this is because Schumi is involved. It's a bad rule that testing is banned in the year for new drivers, but it's the rule for next year. Hopefully, it'll be reversed next year, if only for safety.

I remember they had this in British Touring cars when there weren't enough teams taking part. There was less overtaking as the teams tended to have some tactics going on, and wouldnt take out a team mate.
If all of the teams can't afford 3 teams they could always say that only the top 2 per team counts for constructor points.
That's still not fair. If a 2-car team has a DNF, they can only have 1 car in the points. A 3-car team could DNF and still have 2 cars in the points. If there's going to be a constructors championship there has to be an even playing field.

I imagine that, if allowed, it'd be like the WRC (when some teams were running 3 cars): before the start of the event you nominate 2 cars that will score points. iirc there were occasions when the non-nominated car finished ahead of the other 2...

IMHO if all the teams can't afford 3 teams none should. Next year we'll have 24 cars on the grid at least. We don't need 36, and if Ferrari complain any more about the teams on the grid I will be very mad. 😡 Independent teams have done very well in the past. Why should Ferrari get 3 cars in order to prevent other teams entering the grid?
You could just imagine Ferrari allowing their non-nominated car to beat their other two cars. 🙄

Well, the big teams would certainly not allow it. BUT, it would lower costs and eliminate "team orders".
