I think that's why rear tyres are sometimes wider.

EDIT: something to do with engine placement?

Could be. I have an engine squeezed between the rear wheels. Another car I can think of that always looks like it has a much wider rear track is the 911. Again engine between them...

I think the wider rear tyres is more to do with traction in rear-wheel drive cars?

Anyway back on topic: the Renault colour scheme is horrible and the Williams may be interesting as it has an in-house developed flywheel based KERS system unlike the battery based systems everyone else has announced....

Yes, wider rears tires on RWD are to provide traction for acceleration. It also adds a bit of understeer, since most people buying HP cars don't know how to drive them at high performance. You don't see staggered tire sizes on FWD. (I had an M3, now have a John Cooper Works).

Don't worry about it, love looking at the picutres. I am quite excited about seeing how these cars perform over a grand prix.

I actually quite like the Renault's nose. It seems as if Ferrari and Mclaren were based on a similar design mindset.

To me this image of the williams makes the car look like it is from a garage team rather than a multimillion pound development F1 team.

The BMW looks nice, I really hope they can mix it up with the top two this season.

I really like the new sleeker look of the all the cars, however they seem a bit too stripped down in comparision.

All the cars have such nice lines this year. They've looked so fugly over the last few seasons.

The BMW is definitely the worst looking of the 09 cars. Of the ones released so far, I prefer the Williams.

Only one proper launch left! I can't wait to see it.

only one?

how many teams are there this season?

ferrari
toyota
bmw
williams
mclaren
renault

rbr
torro rosso
(or whatever it is called)

are there only 8?

I'm so torn between which is uglier: the BMW or the Renault. The BMW is just blah, but the Reunault feels like it jumped from 30 years past.

RBR/STR are both Red Bull Technology cars, so they'll essentially be the same.

You did forget Force India though, who will be getting a lot of help from McLaren this year, so we'll see how similar they are.

exactly the same thing i thought.

I like the look. I do agree though, that seem to be a blast from the past.

Agreed on the STR/RBR. Force India... that is who I forgot. 9 teams then? 18 cars? feh. They should let teams try to qualify 3 cars and only allow the fastest 24 on the grid.

Most teams are struggling to get 2 cars in the grid, never mind 3!

It is a shame that Honda won't be there, they have some very good staff at Brackley who have spent 12 months of their lives developing a car which will probably never see the light of day. Even if someone does save them, the performance of the car will be nowhere near what it could be.

I have heard that there is a lot of senior Spyker staff at the Brackley site at the moment, you would have thought they learnt first time!

I know that it would be hard to do but i like seeing a big field.

As for learning lessons, who is going to snatch up Ross Brawn?
