Everyone is accusing Shero of theft with the Gogo deal. I hope they are right Neil looks exactly what we need. He will step into the lineup being the high scorer on the team. He is only 23 years old and signed through next year. I like. Can't wait to see him in the Pens uni.

Lost another one today. 1-0 Craps. Fluerry and the defense has been really good. Shame we have no O. ThAt situation should be looking better as the new guys join the lineup and about 4/5 guys are close to returning.

Fluery had no chance on that Ovy one-timer,it was a rocket;) I think your boyz have the best PK in the league, that's something to look at:) Any word on the "Golden Child's" return?:D

Right now my boyz are the best team in the east:cool: We got the Coyote's tonight at home, who got a seven game winning streak going. Will be tested tonight;)
Go Flyers...

And yeah, I could definitely see Toronto trying to trade up in the draft. Unfortunately for them, this draft class doesn't look as good as last years from what I have heard. We will see though.

Was last year's good? ;)

Yeah, I'd rather keep the two later 1st round picks rather than take a single, but improved, 1st Round pick. It only makes sense if there's a player in the draft that they're really keen on drafting.

Otherwise, in a weak draft year, there's probably a few gems in the 1st and 2nd rounds anyway, but you'll just have to get lucky. Easier to do with 2 picks, IMO.

Grrrr Flyers lol. Nah no one knows anything about Crosby. Looks like they are going for another winger. Last resort, Kovalev will return.

There are rumors that Burke may try to flip the picks for Stephen Weiss. If he can pull that off, I say do it (he'll probably have to give up a little more though). He's a top-line center, which would be perfect for Kessel. At 27, he's just entering the prime of his career. The hardest position to fill right now (for every team) seems to be a #1 center..... we need one badly.

The word from the scouts is that this isn't a strong draft, and it really falls off after the first 10-ish picks. If Burke can make those two picks become a higher one, he should do it.

Burke and MacArthur's agent are trying to hammer out a new deal this week. He's a RFA this summer. I hope they can work something out, that guy has been huge for the Leafs this year.

Leafs vs. Isles going on right now..... Oh look, MacArthur scored to make it 1-0 Leafs.

I didn't know anything about Weiss until I looked him up just now. He doesn't seem like a very good centre stats-wise, but he seems decent enough to be worthy of 2 draft picks this year just that so we can say that we have a decent centre! That, and if it gets Kessel going, I don't care if Weiss is just another 50-60 point player who will underperform and get 40-50 points in a Leaf uniform. :p If he's a pass-first centre, he'd be a good fit for some of the scoring wingers.

And funny how Burke now wants to add a defenceman to the line-up ASAP, preferrably one with offensive talent. We HAD one!

He's better than his stats show. Remember, he's been playing for the Panthers for his whole career, and hasn't really had good wingers to play with. Sure, Horton was on the team last year, but he was playing center a lot as well. Look at how well Horton is playing on the Bruins, BTW. Weiss is also good for the PP.

I think he's just ****ing with everyone. I think he knows that a center is a more important acquisition.

Kaberle needed to be dealt. We'll be able to load up after the season. I think we'll have a lot of cap space.

Kaberle needed to be dealt because management made him feel unwanted. During the Leafs' recent good play, Kaberle was a big part of the wins. Offensively, anyway.

And by playing on a bad team like the Panthers, I was thinking perhaps Weiss' numbers were inflated. You see it all the time (look at all the decent Leaf players who get traded to other teams, only to play like crap), although it's more true of the NBA than NHL.

Or like you said, Weiss could be better than I expect.

Kaberle needed to be dealt because management made him feel unwanted.

That's the first I've read/heard that anywhere, and I listen to The FAN 590 pretty much daily. I haven't heard any of the hockey analysts say that Kaberle was made to feel unwelcome by management. AFAIK, Burke never went to him and demanded he lift his no-trade clause. From what I can tell, it was handled pretty well internally by management.

He needed to be dealt because he's going to be an UFA, and the Leafs won't pay him the amount and years that his agent will push for.

I don't think that MLSE wanted another Sundin or Bosh situation to happen (they leave and we get nada).

If there was no salary cap, they would have kept him.....

Surely you are correct ... we have had Kaberle for fairly cheap over his years in Hogtown.

He was going to want more money on his next deal and Burks is leaning towards a younger team. He played well for us, but it was time for him to move on. ... good deal Burke made.

This had nothing to do with Kaberle's UFA status. In Burke's 2-3 years with the Leafs, Burke has wanted to trade Kaberle for at least 2 of those years, so it's not a recent development due to Kaberle's UFA status next season. Burke tried to shop him over two different July trade windows, where Kaberle's contract allowed the team to trade him. In fact, Burke has publicly stated that he specifically intends to shop Kaberle around during July trade windows. While GMs are always trying/willing to make moves that improve their hockey club, making it public that he's listening for offers for Kaberle shows clear intent.

While Burke has told the media that he has never asked Kaberle to waive his no-trade contract (and I believe Burke), and has only asked Kaberle if there was a list of teams he wouldn't mind being traded to at least 2 different times (to which Kaberle answered, "No way! I want to stay in Toronto."), the pressure must have been there. It's obvious based on Burke's past statements, and offers to try to trade Kaberle to any team he lists.

^^^ Well..... it's not that Burke had specifically targeted Kaberle to get rid of. He wanted to get rid of all of the old core players on the team. Which he did. The only holdout was Kaberle.

Wouldn't it be funny if McCabe found his way back to the Leafs before the trade deadline......

So, he tried to make a deal during Kaberle's brief summer trade windows, but he couldn't find one that satisfied Kaberle's worth. I don't really consider that mistreatment.....Kaberle knew that he could be traded during those periods.

The fact that Burke asked Kaberle where he wanted to go, was able to trade him there, and get a solid return is pretty amazing, especially in today's NHL.

Leafs won tonight 2-1. Kessel scored the winner, Reimer solid in net again.

We're only 5 points behind Carolina, who is 8th in the conference and holds the last playoff spot.

I can't help myself ... I am a diehard fan ...

Reimer is going to pull an "Antti Niemi" style playoff run.

Flyers lose to the Coyotes last night  Bad penalties, soft goals, turnovers. The trend continues... We need to start putting teams away;)

New guys are ready to play tonight. They got in late last night due to the weather and had a private practice with the coaches last night. Looks like both of them will get a lot of work against the sharks. Neil will be on the top line and Niskanen will get point duty on the PP with Martin still out and Gogo gone of course. This is another game the Pens should lose but ya never know and I will be watching regardless.

What happen to Orpik last night? Orpik and Latang play on the same line for the most part correct? You better look at getting some blueliners at the trade deadline or your screwed

They aren't really saying. If it's a broken bone that's not good. Orpik is one of the most important guys on the team no question. We have enough bodies on D Martin should be back. I don't think they will be trading for D. I would say worst case Orpik will be back for the playoffs. We still need forwards more than anything. The Pens have been shutting teams down but are having trouble scoring more than 2.

It's top of the line defense and goal tending tho. Fluerry is playing the best hockey of his life right now. That can take you far. We get some forwards back we could frustrate some teams in a 7-game series. Screw the Flyers :p

A nice flurry of trades today. Trade deadline is fast approaching!

I can't believe how little the Pens gave up for Kovalev....a 7th rounder!

Leafs won in Montreal tonight 5-4. Kessel had 2 goals, 2 assists......6 goals in the past 5 games. Bozak with 2 goals, 1 assist.:D We chased Auld out of the net.....

Lebda's really playing well now that he's in the lineup and has more responsibility. Hopefully he can be a nice surprise.

And James Reimer (who?) with a 9-4-2 record ever since coming up from the Marlies. Amazing.

Oh, and now we're only 4 points behind Carolina for the final playoff spot.......
