Well Pens beat the Avs last night lol. It was a good game. Now we should get a few guys back. Cooke for sure. Maybe Kunitz, Jeffery, Letestu soon. Going to be some tough games upcoming.

Dude
Maybe Forsberg retired too early...:D

Canucks lose another d-man

Kevin Bieksa out 3 weeks with a fractured foot. Blueline injury nightmare continues. To put it in perspective, Aaron Rome, who was supposed to be our 7th/8th defenseman, is now #3 in our depth chart. Half of the Canucks blueline consists of players from Manitoba Moose.

Can they keep winning?

Everyone forgets the Pens where like that beginning of the year last year. The top 2 on down where AHL call ups but we got our guys back. Tough at the end of the year. Who knows. Like I was saying to my fellow pens fans there aren't a ton of dominant teams this year. If someone can manage to take out the Wings and the Flyers it's anyones tournament IMO.

Is it bad that I'm already planning days off for the Flyer's cup parade down Broad Street? :p

Depends on how many Cannucks are left come April. If they keep dropping like they are, then no-I dont see any team in the West winning-if they get healthy(relative to how long people are out), then you can mark the days on the calendar, but don't put in for the day off yet.

Surely-

Why is Kaberle all of a sudden ready to waive his clause? I mean he knew what kind of team the Leafs had-if he wanted to win, he could have asked to go to Detroit or Washington or Philly. Why waive now-and why the Bruins ? Just to piss off MLSE?

Maybe he just wants to live in Boston? ... or he sees something we don't

He doesn't really want to leave. He'd rather stay and play his whole career as a Leaf. However, I think he's come to realize that the Leafs can't keep him around and can't/won't pay him what he will demand on the free agent market. I'm not sure why the Bruins specifically, but I know that he does want to stay in the East.

He hasn't actually waived anything just yet, but I guess his agent has hinted to BB that he'd prefer to go to Boston. Doesn't really give us much leverage.....

I'd like to congratulate the B's for beating the Islanders!

At least they managed to look like a team last night for a little while -- but still a lot of sloppy play. Hopefully they can get some confidence back and get the train on the tracks for a big finish. And the fact that is wasn't an all out brawl was probably a positive. Both teams looked to be on their best behavior, save for the first couple of mins.

I had a feeling it would happen today......

Tomas Kaberle to the Bruins for:

  • prospect Joe Colborne
  • Boston's 1st rounder in 2011
  • a conditional draft pick

Good job Burkie. I'm impressed that he was able to get so much for him.

I'd like to thank the Nashville Predators for setting the bar high by acquiring Mike Fischer for more than he's actually worth.:D

Well, despite no points last night, I'm quite happy with trade so far. He certainly looked good... :)

Now - need to get Peverley going...

It seems like a good trade for the Leafs if the standings were frozen today. Unfortunately, the Bruins probably got better due to this trade (and others), and so our 1st Round pick from Boston may get worse with time.

Burke sure has done an excellent job building up the Boston Bruins for the present, and the future.

This hockey day in america is a step forward for the league. I like it. Pens and Hawks up next. Hopefully the pens dont look too bumb today.

Is that today? I thought it was next week.

Unfortunately, I've been way too busy this morning to watch.

However, I am looking forward to the Heritage Classic in a couple of hours.

Lovin' the Flames uniforms for this thing.

Yeah - I liked it. I watched the Flyers / Rangers game which I would have been unlikely to watch otherwise. Only saw the first few mins of the Pens...

I didn't notice that. What I did notice though was that the Flyers looked very slow in the first 1-2 periods and I thought "why don't they skate that slowly against the B's?"

I'll call Lavy and ask him:D I'm sure he's not happy with that;) Were lucky we got out of the "Garden" with a win:cool:

Peace

Good trade for both sides I think. Boston gets its much needed puck-moving defenseman, especially for the power play. Adding a 4 time all star to that group is HUGE.

Toronto gets a 1st rounder which will be in the 2nd half of the round, Colborne, and the conditional pick. I'm glad we still have the Leafs pick (thanks phil!). Colborne could be decently good, but we already have so many centers he wouldn't have a spot on our team any time soon. Good guy to give up in the trade for that reason. And the conditional pick is a 2nd rounder next year (2012) if the Bruins re-sign Kaberle for next season or make it to the Stanley Cup Finals this year.

Not sure about the whole Wheeler/Stuart for Peverly & Valabik trade. Obviously it needed to happen to clear the cap room for Kaberle, but I really haven't seen either of them play. Stuart was obviously expendable (he was our 8th dman once you add Kaberle), but I just haven't seen Peverly play at all so I don't know how he compares to Wheeler.

Well, he's a 4 time all-star because, frankly, we didn't have anyone else to send. Each team has to send someone.....

But to be fair, he's a very good d-man, and has always been pretty consistent for us.

Colbourne has already made an impact for our AHL team.....he scored a goal and a shootout goal in the Marlies' last game.

I don't think Burke is done just yet. I can see him parlaying the two first rounders he's acquired into a higher first rounder.

He was the best available guy for what the Bruins needed, and what they wanted to spend. It seems like he was pretty excited to come to Boston, and hopefully will fit in the system well. He's close to the top for power play assists, and that was our biggest weakness, so its a good deal for both teams. And I'm glad the kessel debacle didn't turn off the two teams from trading with one another. This is one that I think will work out well for both teams, both in the short and long run.

And yeah, I could definitely see Toronto trying to trade up in the draft. Unfortunately for them, this draft class doesn't look as good as last years from what I have heard. We will see though.
