Yeah, I don't see where there should have been a penalty on that play. It was just an awkward hit. Boychuk gave a little shove at the end that probably didn't need to happen, but it wasn't a dirty play.

On a side note, you get your hockey news from Forbes.com?:p

^^^^ the penalty should have been for the trainer letting him off the ice without a backboard! Not a great idea for a guy with a broken back.

Bruins Fans Push TD Garden's Noise Level Well Past 100 Decibels During Game 6
by Jashvina Shah on Tue, Jun 14, 2011 at 7:35PM 6

For the entire Stanley Cup Final, the TD Garden has been earsplitting, and during Game 6 on Monday night, the noise level bordered on deafening.
The NHL.com decibel meter registered a reading as loud as 119 decibels after David Krejci scored to put the Bruins up 5-1 on the way to winning 5-2 to force a Game 7.
As expected, the TD Garden erupted with a sound level of 115 decibels when Brad Marchand scored the first goal of the game. Milan Lucic's goal earned a decibel reading of 116, while Michael Ryder's deflection was worthy of 118 decibels.
The chart indicates that decibel levels surpassing 115 or so are on the same noise level as a loud rock concert.
The fans kept the decibel level at 111 when the scoreboard showed a tribute of injured Bruins forward Nathan Horton. NHL.com compared the sound level to that of a power saw.
When the Canucks skated out to start the warmups, the sound level was 101 decibels -- one of the lowest readings of the night. The sound level escalated to 106 decibels not long after when the Bruins took the ice, and the TD Garden wasn't even full when it happened.
According to NHL.com, sustained hearing loss can occur with constant exposure to noise levels between 90-95 decibels.

I agree with Kerry-there is an argument for an interference but beyond that it's not until you look at it from a good angle(CBC had a pretty good one) and realize how awkward Ramond went in.

For anyone who has played the game, you know that entire area(from your bellybutton around to your spine) is effectively unpadded, except for those who wear an extra pad above your butt like Zetterberg, so no matter how much force there is to that part of the body, its still not protected and therefore vulnerable.

I say around 50/50. Oh wait, you completely edited your post.:D:p

Doug Gilmour used to wear a piece of padding in the low of his back as well to protect him from the vicious crosschecks he used to receive behind and in front of the net. He actually just modded his equipment by having a rectangular piece of foam attached to his existing equipment. I remember Don Cherry showing it and talking about it on an episode of Coach's Corner in the 90's.

Did Mr. Cherry have the audacity to criticize Killer for wearing it?

This is not a rhetorical question, I am curious-

and yes i Know Cherry was as big of a Gilmour fan as anyone

No, he praised him. He said he was really smart for thinking of using the foam that way.

Cherry is a lot of things, but he takes player safety seriously.

I guess I can almost see the interference call... but why isn't this finishing a check? Boychuck was locked up on Raymonds at the puck and then just pushed in to the wall. The bit about using the stick to spin him I just don't see. Raymonds WANTS to spin around to not get face first into the boards.

I do see the extra little love Boychuck gave him at the tail end though...

I think it's border line. If 2 guys make contact going for the puck that is right there between them, how is it interference? Whether they touch it or not, they were still making a play for the puck right there.

Interference or not, after that they got tangled up and slid in to the boards, and the rest was kind of incidental. Boychuk kinda finished his check to the boards a little bit, but it was nothing crazy or malicious. It was just unfortunate that Raymond hit the boards awkwardly.

Not that we should spend time arguing about a missed minor penalty that probably wouldn't have changed a thing about the outcome of that game, but I think I'm going to have to go with Frasier's opinion.

We all know that he wasn't the perfect ref (missing Gretzky's high stick on Gilmour:mad:), but his opinion that it should have been an interference penalty is based on careful thought and analysis, as opposed to a spur of the moment on-ice decision.

There was some talk earlier about how unclassy Canucks fans are compared to Bruins fans. I've been listening to HockeyCentral @ Noon, and the host of the show said that they had rocks thrown at them the other night in Boston. So I'd say......even?

Yeah - there are idiots everywhere. Unfortunately I don't think that a generalization of which fans are classier can be made. Trust me I've seen some pretty unclassy things at the Garden that goes beyond the standard FU. The announcer at the Garden now says in addition to the regular things you can get thrown out for "or inappropriate displays of affection" :)

The Canucks fans in my section were treated pretty well from what I could see (except for the idiot yelling at the kids). We tend to get a lot of them for some reason. They were good natured. From my one experience I'd rather be near Canucks fans than Habs fans.

I'm heading to Ground Zero tonight to get into a bar there to watch the game. Menino has decided not open the Garden which I think is just foolish. Personally I'd go there where it's a bit more controlled. Since Mass has laws against carrying in a bar I have to go unprotected -- but I can drink :).

I'll document the craziness. I should be able to get a data connection tonight I hope.

penalty for what? the contact started as a battle for the puck, they got tangled up, and hit the boards awkwardly. i watched the replay a bunch of times and i fail to see any penalty on that play. it's not like boychuck matt cooke'd him.

there's nothing for the league to handle here. a guy got hurt in a hockey play. it wasn't malicious head hunting like rome.

I wasn't saying there should have been one, just that the league has been punishing people based on severity of injury. It wasn't vicious, just a little extra at the end - more about a guy going into the boards awkwardly.

....

LOL, I was curious about his injury and googled it. That was the first result. Go figure.

And that's the issue I was really talking about... 5 years ago, it's just a guy finishing his check. Now, EVERY point of contact is under a microscope

that lack of call was made up for when Torres and McQuaid were racing down to the bruins end and torres shouldered into mcqauid about 10 feet from the end boards.

Congrats Boston! You guys earned it, especially Tim Thomas!! I feel sorry for the poor shmuck who paid $8000 for his seat... unless he was a Bruins fan

Game 7 here we go ... I hope it goes to OT

I am watching Bruins overtime right now. :D

I loved the behind the net POV on the short handed goal and seeing the Bruins fan jumping up.

Bruins out score the Canucks 23 to 8 and it came down to a game 7
