He was definitely fantastic. And, I think everyone would agree, a class act off the ice as well.

Makes me not feel quite as old. ;)

Pish posh, he's only now just maturing as a goaly. :p

Remember one of 'our' great goalies, Johnny Bower? ;)

Just watched some of the riot videos on YouTube- absolutely horrifying. What is wrong with people? Do people really have nothing else to live for but a game?

Please don't perpetuate the fiction, that these were "only hockey fans".

So far from the truth. They were thugs and thieves, nothing more.

I agree with that. I also am a firm believer that the hooligans that started the chaos were planning on rioting whether or not the Canucks won.

Sad day for a beautiful city.

Patrice Bergeron too, and especially Mark Recchi. what a way to end a hall of fame career.

Oh, and some guy named Cam...

When did Bergeron fall into the 4th line role. Thorton, Marchand, Bergerson. Could any team ask more from their 4th line?

truth. the hockey fans were the ones partying in the streets of boston. where there was at least a couple hundred thousand people and only 7 arrests...

huh? Bergy definitely isn't on the 4th line.. he is the best all around player on the team. Krejci is technically the "#1" center because he centers the #1 line, but Bergy might as well be 1A. He is just as good (I'd argue better).. if he was surrounded by legit top wingers (Marchy and Rex are good, but still a rookie and retiree) he would have put up even better numbers for us. PP, PK, 5 on 5.. he is out there for every important situation, every critical faceoff. He is a leader on and off the ice.

Our 4th line was Thornton/Campbell/Paille. Bergy centered the 2nd line, was on the top PP and top PK lines as well. He pretty much leads the team every game in TOI for forwards.

I'm hoping this win will help him get more credit around the league. He truly is one of the best players, and at 26, has already assembled quite a resume. WJC Gold, WC Gold, Olympic gold, Stanley Cup, and the GWG in Stanley Cup Game 7. Not too bad. Everyone talks about Thomas and Chara, but Bergy is the heart and soul of the Bruins.

congrats to all the Bruins fans ... you deserved to win.

As for the Canucks ... I hope they never get back to the Cup Final ... 94 and 2011 are the reason.

Go Leafs

I said this in another section of MR and I'll say it here too:

As a hockey player myself, I can assure you guys that no one on that team in Vancouver is proud of this. This is just a shame.

I saw this kind of thing happen in Chicago year after year when the Bulls won championships during the Jordan era in the 90s. They were never our finest moments. It was awful. I used to have to go out and sit on my car amidst gunfire to make sure no one jumped on it until 4 in the morning. I will never understand why this goes on.

We humans play games out of love of the game (for the most part) and because they're fun. When we win, it's great and all. But when we lose is when we really learn. It's when we lose that we learn our most important lessons. When we win is when we have finally learned those very lessons.

In short, we win when we deserve to win- no sooner, no later. I would be willing to bet that everyone on the Vancouver Canucks realizes this.

Having played hockey for the short time I have (since January), I have met the most incredible people I've ever met in my life- supportive, kind, helpful and caring- never a negative word. I have never experienced this in any sport other than hockey. No matter what you may see on the ice, hockey players have a lot respect for each other at the end of the day. We might beat the hell out of each other out there, but once we step off the ice, it's respect and admiration (for the vast majority of us, there will always be a few bad apples, and we tend to discard them). That is the very reason I fell in love with hockey. It is a nasty, rough game and we get hurt- a lot. I've had countless injuries as a goalie. But we always compliment each other afterward. Talking to the opposing team after a game for me, has always been important, especially if we lost to them.

The fans displayed the exact opposite after this game. They made a mockery of the game. It makes me sad, because this is not what hockey is about at all. It's about doing your best. And if your best isn't good enough at the time, so be it. There's always next time. And if you're smart, you take those lessons to heart and learn from them, rather than throwing a fit and learning nothing.

Well said, as always, Lee.

As fans we have to remember that a) it is just a game and b) it's not like we were out there on the team playing with them. A win or a loss "for us" is only a derivative of the real thing.

I'm hearing crowd estimates for the parade to be in excess of 100,000 people. I was thinking there would be more.

I love right next to boston and it looks like I'll have to avoid the city tomorrow and any major routes near the city.

I have no plans on going to the parade. With two 5 year old girls, my weekends are typically booked up.

I remember when redsox/patriots/celtics won their respective championships and they had the rally or parade on a work day. People were pouring into the city at 6:00am and I suspect the same will occur tomorrow. I can't imagine sitting on a curb waiting for a parade for 5+ hours but hey that's just me. I guess my ADD would kick in and I'd go bananas :p

I'm still debating it. This may be one of those things better seen on TV.

Not to be humorless, but I hate that calling the Sedin brothers "girls" is some kind of huge insult. Girls are tough mofos and deal with things men could never even comprehend.

If someone punched me in the face six times, I'd knock their @ss out, period!

I'm 99% sure I'll be going to the parade tomorrow. It's chaotic, but always pretty fun. I missed the Celtics' 2008 parade because I was living in Sydney for school, and I was really bitter about it. I am living in Boston again for a couple more months, so I'm not missing this one.

Hmm.. so you've been to my house? YIKES!

I think this is funnier because of the reference to 2 girls / 1 cup... which, if you haven't seen, I wouldn't recommend.

Wuss. You know you love that vid.

:D

I did one of those "reaction vids" of my wife our neighbors watching it -- that was worth it right there!

The parade route is set and I'm starting to have second thoughts about bringing my 2.5 year old niece in to witness this... not being a parent myself and being past my prime parenting years I think this may exceed my capabilities.

Torn, myself. I am supposed to go to the Buffett concert.
I would like to do both.
Decisions.
Need to start saving for Banner night. Tickets are going to be outrageous.

I say screw it and watch it on tv. Unless you have VIP access or something, I don't see the attraction of dealing with the traffic, standing around in a huge crowd of people just to watch some cars drive by with the team, and then dealing with the traffic on the way home.

I think of the parade as more of a chance for people who weren't able to go to any of the games to go and be a part of something live.

Or go..... wtf do I care?;):p

Dude
My dad took me to the parade in '74 and I'll never forget it. That's the year I started playing;) I was hoping to take my son last year but you know how that turned out:rolleyes:

Thats why they make this lovely thing called whiskey. And beer.

I just saw on boston.com that the cops are now expecting a million fans to show up

Probably more than that. There were 4 million for the Sox in 04... I'd say 2 is a safe estimate and it quite possibly could be more.

Planning to leave my house at around 715 in the morning. Should be fun... worked a double today, scheduled for 430 tomorrow afternoon. If I don't make it to work on time? **** it. Bruins are way more important :D

I don't have VIP access but I certainly would like it. I love the red carpet line at the airport and anything else where I don't have to be with the "common folk"

I'm officially out for tomorrow. Niece is coming over in the morning and we are wearing our B's shirts and parading around the neighborhood -- DVRing the bigger parade. How far can 2 year olds really make it anyway...

it's a good thing I don't have one of these -- I might have to give up all of my fun activities. And, more importantly, I know **** about taking care of kids. I like to keep things simple so I have a singular goal - return her alive. Wish me (and her) luck.

^^^Nah, you just find other fun activities to do.

I heard that Vancouver is sending down some "fans" to rough the place up.;)

They met today, they know where each other stands, but no deal? Uh oh, I hope that Bryzgalov isn't trying to get a "no games in Winnipeg because it's boring there" clause into his contract.:D:p

"We have spoken with Ilya and his agent Ritch Winter about many different scenarios," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. "As for now, we both know each other's position and have agreed to speak again next week. There will be no further comment at this time."

They also gave Ilya a tour of the city...even took him to Genos Steaks...and they already named a cheesesteak after him...i think a deal is done..but they technically can't release any information on a deal until at least draft day.
