Surely, please dont tell me you think that was a good goal last night, during the Panthers/Leafs game? Clearly it was interference, and its ridiculous that it wasnt called. Leafs look good though. And Im glad to see my Panthers get back to where they belong this year, near the bottom, because we could really use Couturier or Hopkins.

Dude, what are you talking about? That was clearly a good goal. There wasn't any interference on the play. Stop whining........

:D Just kidding. Yeah, the officials made a bad call, and the Panthers were robbed on that goal. What's the deal with the officiating this year anyway?

If this was last season, that would have been no goal. For some reason, some questionable calls are finally going the Leafs' way.

The Leafs are looking good, but not great just yet. A pisser though: Armstrong is out 4-6 weeks following finger surgery after injuring himself last night.

Yeah, the Panthers will most probably be at or very near the bottom this season. Rebuilding time. It's a shame you guys didn't get anyone for Bouwmeester..... wtf was Martin thinking? I never liked that guy. I think Tallon will be able to build a winner there, he was one of the main architects of the Blackhawks.

Lets not get into Bouwmeester. I was one of his biggest fans from the time we drafted him, and while he had some good seasons for us, he b!tched out after the deadline during his last season here, and he was a huge reason why we lost out to the Habs in a tiebreaker for the eighth spot. Im glad he is in Calgary now, because everyone gets to see how overrated he really is. The guy wanted to be in a bigger market, well now he is, and he will get slaughtered by the fans and reporters.

Martin was an idiot for not moving Bouwmeester, especially since Bouwmeester reportedly made it clear to him, 18 months before his contract was up, that he wouldnt re-sign. Philadelphia offered Martin Carter for Bouwmeester, and he turned it down. And with the lack of top line talent, I hear that and it just makes me sick. We would have had Carter going into that season where we lost to the Habs in the tiebreaker, and with the defense we had, even without Bouwmeester, we would have made it as the 6th/7th seed. Whatever, whats done is done, and Im glad both are gone.

My problem with this season is that I dont think the Panthers are going to be bad enough to be last in the conference. Im afraid they will finish 11-12th in the conference. I just hope they are not that close come the deadline, so they can sell off their vets like Cabs, Vokoun, Reinprecht, etc. Sounds crazy that I dont want the playoffs, but its not. We just arent built to be a playoff team, we do not have enough top line talent. We have a very good farm system, and some good young players on the team now, but we need a Couturier or Hopkins in order for us to really speed up the rebuild. Tallon has a lot more pieces to work with here, than he did in Chicago, and I believe he will bring us back to the playoffs.

Are you on HFboards?

Are you on HFboards?

I browse them every once in a while, but I'm not a member there.

I think you're spot-on with your thoughts on the Panthers. The only way they'll finish close enough to the bottom to get something out of it will be if they start selling off their talent sooner rather than later. Take it from me, there's nothing worse than finishing a few spots out of the playoffs year after year after year after........

Anyone notice that Gretz was at the World Series?

Wonder if he has to pay for tix?

World Series? Is that going on right now?:p

There will never be another like Gretzky.

I think there never will be another Gretz, but there wont be another Crosby, or Ovechkin either. These are just generational players of our time (or my time since I dont know how old you are), just like Gretz was a generational player back in the 80s/90s. Thats what makes the NHL such a great sport, there will always be a surplus of talent because we are a world sport, or at least a two continent sport.

The Panthers are definitely on the right track. They are set in goal for years to come with Markstrom, Salak, and Chevrie. They are also pretty well off on defense with Kulikov, Gudbranson, Robak, Petrovic, Ellerby, and even Wideman. And while they have some good young vets up front in Weiss and Booth, along with Frolik, Bjugstad, McFarland, Repik, Dadonov, Howden, Hyman, etc. as prospects, they need that top line stud. Couturier would be that player, Hopkins as well. If they were able to add one of those two, we would be in such a good position in the future. Even budgeting ourselves to about $50 million next year, we would have about $26 million to re-sign our UFAs/RFAs, and add some quality pieces via free agency. We will never sign a top tier free agent, but with the talent we have, guys like Backes or Connolly would really be a great addition to the team.

I am totally against tanking, but I have no problem with this team losing more games than they win this year, if it means we get a top 2/3 pick in the draft. Its much more important to us that sneaking into the playoffs, and getting ousted after one round. I dont want us to be like the Thrashers a few years back, where they sold the farm just to get into the playoffs, and havent dont squat since. With the right free agent pickups, and another solid draft from Tallon, in a couple of years, we could be a team that makes the playoffs every season. That is as long as our prospects pan out the way we hope they do.

Gretzky was the total package though. Not only was he the greatest on the ice, but he was amazing off the ice in front of the camera or microphone. He was incredibly patient, answered all questions thrown at him, and signed tons of autographs for the fans.

These new "superstars" aren't like that. Too much ego.

My age is in my profile.....I'm 34.

*Panthers analysis*

I wish the Leafs would have tanked it for 4-5 seasons ago instead of trying to squeeze into the playoffs but ending off in 10th-ish place each season. We would have gotten back on track a lot faster. The Panthers need to tank it.... that's how to build a winner in the new NHL (the Red Wings don't count.... that team is a freak of nature).

Meanwhile, the train has come off the tracks a little for the Leafs. We've played alright, but our scoring has dried up. Not good enough to win. Burke needs to find some secondary scoring, and he needs to find it now. We're relying too much on Kessel, we don't have a proper 1st line centre, and our defense needs to start putting some points on the board as well. Armstrong being out for the next 4-6 weeks isn't very helpful either.

Stars haven't been doing so great either, they were in 2nd and dropped all the way down to like 12th in the conference. They have been getting good chances but all the goalies are stoning them!

so, kessel is still 0 for his career against boston while tyler seguin scored his first goal against toronto on thursday night. i love the crowd chanting "thank you kessel" after his goal

Does anyone know how to download games to watch offline? I'm looking to get the Ottawa/Bruins game from last night.

Thx.

That's such a non-story right now. Get back to me in a few years when Seguin is/isn't an established player in the league. Not 10 games into his first season.

Kessel hasn't performed well against his old team? So what, that's pretty common in professional sports. I know that you may care how he performs against the Bruins, but I don't (well, I care to the extent that it's a game against a divisional rival). I just want him to perform well the entire season. He's a proven goal scorer in the league, and you can't take that away from him.:)

EDIT: Kessel had 6 shots on goal during that game. That sounds more like a good performance by Thomas than a bad performance by Kessel.....

I'm not sure if there's a legal source for that...... if you find one, let me know.

All I know is that I'm loving the NHLHD Channel.... they showed Leafs/Rangers, are showing Leafs/Capitals on Wednesday, and are showing Leafs/Sabres on the weekend.

The Flyers are on a roll now. Their PP and PK are starting to come around too:)
You got to check out Claude Giroux,he's a beast and can dangle too;)
I think we finally here a keeper in net too...:D

Peace

Watching Jaroslav Halak is fun. That guy's like a brick wall in front of the net. He already has his 3rd shutout.

I don't know what the Habs were thinking. I think he'll end up being a better goalie than Price.

robo
Your Flyers won again tonight....... I wonder if Carcillo will be suspended for jumping into that open-ice hit to the head......

My Leafs played pretty well against the Caps last night, considering two of our best players are out injured for the next 4-6 weeks. Would have been better to win, but 1 point is better than none.

Dude
Don't get me started... Just SUSPEND everybody...
Peace

The Flyers beat up on a bad Islander's team barely:rolleyes: Six in a row with the "The Bob" in net. Look'n good so far:cool: Test today Caps;)

Peace

So I haven't thrown in my two cents about Joe Thornton's suspension:

As soon as I saw the replay my exact words were : "Joe you MORON!". I was not surprised or shocked at his ejection or suspension. I know I am likely the only Sharks fan who thinks this but he got what he deserved-if it had been Joe Pavelski, Devin Setoguchi or Patrick Marleau, sharks fans would want the guy out 10 games. I was also upset when our radio analyst got into a twitter argument with Daren Pang of the Blues tv team about whether Peron faked it.

In fact, I was glad in a way-it means that we MIGHT be heading the right direction in terms of who does and doesn't get suspended. If the NHL will suspend Joe Thornton, then anyone can be suspended-and that is what we need. All players, whether you are a Thornton or a Ovechkin or a Steve Downie should be held to the same standard

anyone think the alleged new all star format sounds like a backwards fantasy draft? And what will the team names be? Crosby's kids vs Alex's avengers?

How about Malkin's mercenaries vs Kane's kommunists?

I'm not sure I like it either. If they're going to change it up, then the draft should be left to the coaches, or maybe they could also name a GM for each team and have them choose. Why have the captain of each team draft their players? The GM could draft their teams the night before the game, right before the rookie game (the skills competition would follow), and then the teams would have the next morning to practice a little, and have the game in the evening.

Or.....

[sarcasm]I think that they should name all the All Stars, and a captain for each team. Then, right before the game, right on the ice, they should draft their teams. Every time a player is picked, he skates over to his team. Like we did when we were kids.......how bad would the last player picked feel. :D

Or everyone throws their sticks onto centre ice and the captains choose their teams by the sticks....[/sarcasm]

*sigh* Leafs got killed tonight. *sigh*

I like the sticks at center ice idea!

As for real ideas, One could be to assemble a all league team and play an all-star team from the KHL-I know everyone may think I'm crazy but I think it may be worth it.

If we want to stay all NHL, then I say make the coaches of each team pick the reserves, though fans will continue to vote for the starters, and we will have repeats of all habs/hawks starters (or this year, all canes).

We used to do the sticks thing when we were kids as well.....

They would never do the NHL vs KHL thing...... too much opportunity for injury. I wouldn't be surprised if the KHL would pay bonuses to players if they injure NHL players during the game.;)

Anyway.... looks like they are, in fact, switching to the "captains pick their teams" format.

I'm getting old. First time I have heard of the KHL.

It's those damn Ruskies........ always sneaking up on you with new hockey leagues......:p

Oh, love the current mod to your avatar, but could you make the poppy just a little bit bigger.

;)

I didn't want it to encroach on the infinite loop....... plus, I placed it there because I wanted it to look as if my avatar was wearing it on it's chest, over it's heart.

However, based on your ;), I think that you want me to cover up my avatar as much as possible........
