This post is somewhat ironic considering Tech scored 38 points tonight...and lost to Iowa State. Ouch.

You can say that again. Losing to CU these days is proof positive that your program is in the crapper. Goodbye, Mark Richt; you don't deserve what you're going to get.

So much for Tuberville bringing better defense to TT. Ouch is right.

I wonder if Colorado has scraped up enough money to buy out Hawkins' contract this year. I've heard that is what has prevented them from firing him already. Of course, with the money they are paying to get out of the Big 12, they may not be able to afford it.

more proof that firing Leach was a bad idea.
As bad as it sounds I almost hope Texas Tech is not bowl eligible this year. The crap pulled by the school is inexcusable and they effectually torpedo their own program.

In other news, it seems BYU has fired their defensive coordinator Jamie Hill. I think their offensive coordinator should probably start sending out resumes as well.

That is exactly what I was thinking as well.

Stupid Oregon.

I wasn't convinced until tonight. They're a good team! I thought for sure The Cardinal would hold them off just enough, but I also thought the defenses would show up, too. ;)

It was still a good day in Bronco Nation. Our scrimmage with New Mexico State turned out well, and our future computer rankings were helped by Oregon State and Va. Tech wins. :)

Now I just hope we don't get jumped by Oregon tomorrow.

I actually turned off the Vols/LSU game with a sense of satisfaction and went to the dinner table because my wife was waiting on me. After dinner it was out to the garage to do some work. A few minutes later my wife comes out to the garage and says, "Uh, honey, it appears you turned the game off too early. There was a penalty and LSU scored on the last play to win."

And I was like

And then I was like

And after that I was like :(

I think he will, eventually, but it will come at the expense of that offense. I think a lot of old school coaches like Tubs think that you have to pound the ball and control the clock to protect a good defense. That can have the same effect as scoring a lot of points because the other team feels like they have to score every single time because they get the ball fewer times.

It's a legitimate strategy, and one that I believe Tubs favors, but it definitely seems antiquated these days and will cause a lot of howling in Lubbock until he starts winning a lot (and it will have to be at a better clip than Leach won or he'll never win over everyone).

They are broke, but now that CU is sitting at 3-1 with a win over an SEC team, they have more excuse not to fire him (unless the team just goes into the tank again).

I understand your frustration, but I've never understood the mentality of rooting against your team as an expression of frustration. No matter how bad things get, winning almost always cures everything while losing just makes things worse.

And besides that, while Leach was a good offensive coach and an entertaining interview, it's not like he was ever one of the best coaches in the country. Though he had tremendous success against my alma mater (he went 7-2 against A&M), he never won a championship and he only went 2-8 against Texas and 3-7 against Oklahoma.

I think you probably will. Oregon was very impressive in beating Stanford (seemingly a legit top ten team) last night and in erasing a poor start, where they fell behind 21-3 early.

First I thought Les Miles had just gotten himself fired with that clock management, but that dude has more lives than a box of kittens. Unbelievable screwup for Dooley and UT. 13 men on the field on the last play of the game?!? Ridiculous.

I said when Tubs got hired at TT that he was eventually going to go away from that spread to a power running game. It's in his nature. The thing I find interesting is that he hired Neal Brown from Troy to run his offense. Brown took over at Troy after Tony Franklin got hired to be the OC at Auburn. The same Tony Franklin that Tuberville fired halfway through the 2008 season. Brown basically follows the Franklin system and ran the same offense at Troy. So, he didn't like Franklin or his system at Auburn, but hires a guy who runs the same style offense at TT. And, yes, I know Tuberville interfered at Auburn and tried to turn Franklin's Air Raid offense into a run-first spread, but it's still odd.

As far as Hawkins: I have a feeling that if they end up around 6-6 this year, he will still be fired. It's going to take a good run for him to stay.

I can almost understand rooting against your team. After about year 3 of the Croom experiment, I was ready for him to go. His offenses had been rated in the bottom 10 of the entire country each year, and it was clear that his "west coast" offense wasn't working. Yet he refused to fire his OC or change his system. Then came 2007 with 8 wins including a bowl win. But it was clear that it was all on the defense and lucky breaks. Sure enough, in 2008, DC Ellis Johnson was gone, and we sucked once again with a terrible offense. Going into the Ole Miss game, there were rumors that the performance in that game would determine if Croom stayed or not. It ended up a 45-0 beatdown by the bad guys. While I could never root for them (or against us) under any circumstances, I was a bit relieved, since it meant that Croom was gone. While Dan Mullen may ultimately be no more successful than Croom was, he has brought an entirely different attitude and energy to the program.

I don't know. CU is really, really broke, and they are going to have to pay the Big 12 almost $7M to leave next summer. I think Hawkins's buyout will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $2.5M if they fire him after this year. That's not really that much less than they would have paid had they fired him after last year, but they didn't because they couldn't afford it. If anything, they are in an even worse hole now.

the worse part is that money is not going to come from athletic budgets. instead they will steal the money from the other departments to pay for it. The amount of crap that goes on at schools for sports is insane.
At TTU when they were doing some of the remodeling on the statium money was being stolen for it all over campus. Some departments start suing the school because money was being taken from protected accounts and grant money for things like upgrading computer labs.

God forbid the sports department has to pay for its own stuff.

One thing I do know is if I EVER give money to a school it will go with statement saying it goes to *blank department*. I will not give it to the university or to one of the colleges because I know to much about how everything works and do not trust them. This goes for any university.

Finally after seven years, Air Force beat Navy yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully on November 6th the Commander and Chief's trophy will return to where it belongs after a win against Army.

But before AF looks to that game they go against CSU next week, San Diego State, and then back-to-back games against TCU and Utah. Should be interesting.

The new AP Poll is out. Oregon jumps Boise for 3rd. UT-Austin, Penn State and USC all drop out. Air Force in at #25.

Anyone know what bowl a six win Big 12 team would go to?

:p

There's a new bowl in NYC this year at Yankee Stadium. The Whorns almost certainly won't be the last bowl-eligible team in the Big 12 (where that bowl is slotted), but it would be a fun one to go to, as long as you don't mind frigid weather.

a 59-0 win makes BSU drop. Figures

because it was a crap team and their for shows nothing about how good the BSU is.

BSU does not play many strong teams and their ranking going down reflects that fact.
I expect Oklahoma St first lost will be in 3 weeks when they play TTU. Reason for this is because the winner of that match up is for a long time has been who ever is at home. One year TTU was doing great and the only big 12 win OSU got was when they played TTU in Stillwater. I think if I remember the stats right on ESPN talking about it the last time OSU won in lubbock was in the 1940's. It is pretty bad.

Thanks for beating the Gators
I hate the Gators™

The Dawgs need to play Boise's schedule for a few weeks ;)

Hey, at least you should have one more win when you play Idaho State in a month... ;)

I really wish we could play Georgia again. I still have to listen to idiots talk about "the last time Boise State went to the SEC."

But at least if you played our schedule you'd be 2-2 right now. Although I'm not sure you'd get past Wyoming. ;)

...heh

Bah.

I knew it would happen.

I'm still holding out hope for the Coaches Poll. ;)

I think you guys are misinterpreting it. The movement had nothing to do with Boise and everything to do with Oregon's beatdown of a very good Stanford team.

Think about it this way: if there were no preseason polls and this week's was the very first of the season, would anyone put Boise ahead of Oregon? A few, maybe (like the one voter who keeps voting Boise #1), but not enough to actually put them ahead of the Ducks in the poll.

Probably the Independence Bowl in lovely, exotic Shreveport, Louisiana, where you will face a high-powered 6 win SEC team.:D

Negative. The Big 12 doesn't have an Independence Bowl tie-in anymore. The Big 12's bowl selection order for this year is:

  1. BCS/Fiesta Bowl
  2. Cotton (vs. SEC)
  3. Alamo (vs. Pac-10)
  4. Insight (vs. Big Ten)
  5. Holiday (vs. Pac-10)
  6. Texas (vs. Big Ten)
  7. Pinstripe (vs. Big East)
  8. Dallas Football Classic or the Eagle Bank (vs. Big Ten or ACC)

Don't worry, BSU will get their revenge on the SEC next year when they play Ole Miss. I hope BSU beats 'em at least 59-0.

Pinstripe? Dallas Football Classic? Ugh. Can somebody please put a stop the bowl madness?

Too bad. I was looking forward to a rematch of the 2000 Independence Bowl with TAMU. :)

Almost another upset in a wild finish in the LSU - Tennessee game. I think Les Miles is the luckiest man in college football. Geesh.

Les Miles has made some of the worst coaching/time management decisions in the history of college football

I think the Dawgs just need me to get back from London so I can get them back on track

Stupid coaches. At least the gap is smaller in the coaches poll.

I dunno, obviously as a fan I think it would be incredible to be in the BCS Championship Game, but as long as a Big 10 or PAC 10 team goes to the Big Game then we automatically qualify for the Rose Bowl.

That's not a bad consolation prize! :)

So you are mad your school drop in a rank for winning a cheese game that proved nothing to a school that won a hard game and shows they are better.

Personally any 40+-0 game is a worthless game for rankings. It might as well be the school never played because the school they played clearly proved nothing. Bois play a school well below its level so the win means nothing.
