And just for the record, I hope Utah beats TCU, because it will be more difficult for Utah to leapfrog us versus TCU.

Of course in a perfect world for me, Air Force will beat Utah this weekend and then Utah will beat TCU next weekend.

:)

It's cute when fans of the little schools start arguing with one another.

It's not out of the question. Air Force always plays us tough. However, with Air Force missing one of their star players for the game, and Utah being a much better all-around team, I think Utah breaks the cycle and beats Air Force by at least 2 touchdowns. I guess we'll see on Saturday.

Just for the record, I hope Utah beats AFA, TCU, ND, SDSU, and BYU.

I also hope that each of those teams win out (other than against Utah). And I hope that BSU wins out (like they wouldn't though).

I'm interested in seeing if Utah could jump Boise. I think they would, which is amazing seeing where both teams started. That being said ESPN has been pimping Boise for a long time now, getting over the hump in the human polls could be tough.

If Utah wins out, and TCU finishes 11-1 (only losing to Utah), I think Utah will be ranked ahead of Boise. BUT...they will probably be behind a one-loss SEC team, a one-loss OU or Nebraska, or a one-loss Oregon.

I can't argue with you there. I don't think a Non-AQ can get into the title game, the human polls would never allow that.

It's not the human polls the non-AQ's have to worry about.

Just last week, Oklahoma - which was ranked 3 and 4 in the polls, behind Boise State - was #1 in the BCS by virtue of being higher ranked by the computers. BSU was ranked as high as #2 and still couldn't break into the top 2 of the BCS - and it wasn't because the human voters had them ranked too low.

Actually, that's not true. The reason we weren't #2 in the BCS is because we're ranked #2 in the polls. Our computer average is 6th versus Oregon's 8 average. So if we were ranked #1 in the polls we'd be ahead of Oregon in every aspect of the BCS and ranked #2 in the BCS.

did anyone catch Mel Keiper and Adam Schechter earlier today on ESPN? As big as a Stanford fan as I am, I really don't think he is the best QB in the country-Pac-10 maybe(though Locker or Darron Thomas could make a strong case after their dismantling of us and everyone else), but not the country.

I also find it obsurd that anyone would think that he will leave Stanford early-it simply isn't done. Hell, Toby Gerheart was late getting to Vikings camp while he finished his degree!

When you sign a athletic scholarship at stanford there is a tiny line in the fine print that states:

"Regardless of talent, team success or professional offers, hopes and/or promises, you will complete all coursework and complete your degree before you leave. We will not let you go out into the world with a half-baked Stanford degree."

They were calling Luck the best QB in the country? He's good, but I can think of three guys off the top of my head that are better.

Moore
Newton
Dalton

I would give Luck the edge on Thomas at Oregon, simply due to experience.

Remember, they are looking at NFL QBs. Being a good QB in college doesn't mean you will be a good QB in the NFL. Luck is a big guy with a fairly strong arm, and is an accurate passer. Plus, he is a traditional drop-back passer playing in a pro-style offense. All of those are big in drafting NFL QBs. Moore might be next closest, but his size (he's listed at 6' even) will be a knock on him in the NFL. Newton is an incredible athlete and college QB, but he needs a lot of work in the passing game. Dalton has good size and makes good decisions, but I don't know about his arm strength. Thomas will probably get stuck with the "system QB" tag, which will hurt his standings in the draft.

With all that said, all of these guys will probably get drafted at some point. The NFL is starved for good QBs and teams will give anybody with some potential a shot. All NFL teams would love to find the next Tom Brady, or at least the next Vince Young.

The #2 BCS ranking had much more to do with your computer average than your human poll average. This was clearly not a case of the human polls keeping you down (#2 and they're holding you back, really?) - no, it's because the computers had you at #6 instead of #1 or #2.

I'm pretty sure Kyle Peterson (baseball) left after his junior year. Did he graduate in three years?

Remember, they are looking at NFL QBs.

Exactly. Kiper doesn't know squat about college football (and some would remove the word "college" from that statement), and isn't interested in how many games a kid wins or anything else. He is looking purely at NFL potential, and most of the "experts" will tell you that Luck is the top pro prospect at QB.

The reason we weren't #2 in the BCS is because we're ranked #2 in the polls.

That's stretching it a little, don't you think? The voters are keeping you down by voting you #2 instead of #1? Please...

Guys, I was joking. Hence the smiley. Plus I never said the voters were keeping us down, I was simply pointing out that if the voters had us at #1 (not saying they should) then we would be at #2 in the BCS due to our computer average being higher (currently) than Oregon.

No, I'm pretty ecstatic that we have a #2 ranking in the polls as early as we grabbed it.

Of course I don't think we'll keep it unless teams around us keep losing. There are so many people out there trying desperately to discount everything we do. Just watch the BCS Countdown show on ESPN every Sunday and listen to Craig James... What a douche...

Well that was before I starting really following Stanford sports, so it is possible but I stand by my point that 99.9% of stanford athletes stay the full time and graduate

I personally think that Thomas will be the best of the bunch. I was just amazed at how he and his team have picked apart every secondary in the country. His athleticism is insane-he could be a wide receiver. Moore will be very successful as well. I havent seen enough of Newton to speak of his talents.

I feel like the Dawgs will take care of business in Jacksonville against the Gators, but we need a little help from Tennessee against South Carolina.

I hate the Gators™

Edit: So much for getting any help from Tennessee. The Vols are godawful :(

Edit2: Well, surprise, surprise, they are back in the game. They have done everything they can to give this game away... turnovers, kick out of bounds and more. S. Carolina is laying another egg, and I hope they hatch it! ;)

Edit3: As I was typing the Vols give up a 70 yd TD :(

Am I correct in assuming you begrudge giving up 10 points??

Man, you are tough.

No, Georgia is currently down 21-10. He's begrudging giving up 21. :)

Wow, I'm a bit shocked at the Michigan State - Iowa score. Sparty is getting whipped. And Cam Newton scored a receiving TD. So, when do they line him up on defense or returning kicks? He does everything else. Geesh.

Now THAT is the Dawg team of the past few weeks
Where have they been all game??

24-24

Goooooo Dawgs!
Sic 'em
Woof Woof

Edit: down 31-24 again :(

I hate the Gators™

Edit: 31-31
I still hate the Gators™

Whatever happens... AJ Green is a STUD
