exactly... dog and pony show

They think this makes the University and the players look good right now
Ohio State for saying they can't play unless they return... tough stance :rolleyes:
The players for being "honorable" and "doing the right thing"

Then...
When the dust settles after the bowl game and they all bolt to the NFL...
Everyone will say... "I don't blame them", "good for them", "no reason to stay"

It is all PR BS

Anyone else here follow FCS football? I could go on for hours about FBS or FCS. In the Ohio State thing, I guarantee Coach Tressle already knows about the Idea of just telling him that they are staying. More than likely this is just for attention, serving as a warning to other players, and is going to allow them to play in the bowl game.

Hey steve2112, looks like you get a late Christmas present...

Dan Mullen agrees to $10.6M extension

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen has agreed to a new contract that will pay him an average of $2.65 million over the next four years.

The $10.6 million deal has a $1.4 million buyout, according to Mississippi State spokesman Joe Galbraith. The contract is subject to approval of the state's college board, though that confirmation is usually a formality.

Mullen has a 13-11 record in two seasons at Mississippi State, but the program showed substantial improvement this fall, finishing the regular season with an 8-4 record. The 21st-ranked Bulldogs face Michigan in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 1.

The new contract represents a significant pay raise for Mullen, who was hired at a base salary of $1.2 million per year.

Yeah, I was out of town and on the road most of the day, but I stopped at a Buffalo Wild Wings to eat and watch a little bowl action when I saw that pop up on ESPN. People in the place were looking at me kind of funny after I started yelling. :D

People may look at that 13-11 record and wonder why he got such a big raise. Considering our history, what he has done is amazing. This is only 15th bowl in school history, and only 5th on New Years Day (one of which was the Bacardi bowl in 1912 in Havana!). Our home attendance has also improved by about 10k per game since Mullen got here. He has brought an enthusiasm and energy to the program I haven't seen in a long time.

Anyone watch the Tennessee-North Carolina game? Holy ****! What a great game, and an amazing ending.

EDIT: Well, not really a great game in the sense of skill displayed by each team, but it kept me on the edge of my seat until the end.

Yeah, that ending was totally crazy. That was some Les Miles level clock management by UNC at the end of regulation. I was having flashbacks to LSU-UT game there with players running on and off the field and bad clock management.

I also think Kansas State got royally screwed by that penalty. That was an SEC official level bad call there.

Dawgs getting ready to play the UCF Golden Nancys coached by George O'Leary... you remember him, right? Used to coach the Bees, then jumped to Notre Dame on the strength of a dishonest resume. One of the shortest coaching stints on record as the Golden Domers couldn't dump him fast enough.

The Dawgs need to win if they expect their jerseys to be worth anything on eBay! :p

EDIT: Wow, ESPN reporting Charlie Weiss leaving KC Chiefs to head to Florida to be OC with Muschamp and the Gators. Bizarre if it happens.

EDIT 2: Halftime 3 - 3... what an incredibly boring game *yawn*
Neither team really wants to be here :rolleyes:

I thi k UF getting Charle would be great.

A few points why this makes sense:

1. Given the NFL trend to younger dynamic head coaches not sure Charlie will ever be an NFL head coach unless he becomes a college football icon;

2. Because of what happened at ND it would be tough for a major college program to hire Charlie straight out of the NFL;

3. Quickest way for Charlie to get another gig as a major college head coach is to go become an O coordinator at the collegiate level (at a big time program) and succeed;

4. He would need to go to a program where all success on offensive would be attributed to him and not the head coach;

5. He would need to go somewhere where the Head Coach was comfortable letting Charlie take total control of the offense; and

6. He would need to go somewhere that would allow him to establish the groundwork for a return to college football as a head coach.

This type of move makes sense from the above perspective. If Charlie can come into UF and bring life back to the offense, he would get 100% of the credit. It would set-up for a second chance to coach at a big school. It would allow him to establish a recruiting presence in Florida. You don't think Charlie got the message when all of these schools ignored him for their current job openings (yes Miami I am looking at you).

The Golden what, MacDawg? :D

What a pitiful, lackluster performance from both teams
One of the worst Bowl games I have ever endured
Both teams should be embarrassed by their play

Richt should be ashamed of the way this team was prepared
This does nothing to give any confidence for his job moving into 2011

They just cannot beat any Florida team ;)

They couldn't beat anybody right now

Much like us (GA Tech). I think it says a lot about the sorry state both of our programs are in when we can play each other and score 30+ points easily, yet play middle of the road opponents in bowl games and neither team score more than 7 points. The only positive thing for me this bowl season is that UGA lost! :D:D

Bummer of a loss, Dawg. Non marquee bowl games are a funny thing - the teams haven't played a game in almost a month, and sometimes motivation is an issue. I was watching Miami get beat by ND, and it was like they didn't even want to be there.

Well, my bowl watching took a hit tonight because of some nasty weather hitting around here. A tornado hit about 2 miles away from my house. There was another one that hit in another suburb on the other side of town. My house somehow dodged the worst, except for the remnants of my neighbor's storage building that are now in my back yard.

I did manage to watch most of the Chic-Fil-A bowl while the satellite was actually getting a signal. FSU's defense came to play and were laying some nasty hits. Stephen Garcia showed that he was still the same...looks great at times, and other times causes a massive "WTF??"

And so it begins in earnest... the Mark Richt watch

Richt gives no reason to believe he can turn Georgia around

Dogs’ bowl showing pretty much sums up the season: Lousy

Lost season for Bulldogs ends with Liberty loss

But if you make a change, better know who and what you are getting...

New Pitt coach jailed on domestic violence charge

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — New Pittsburgh coach Mike Haywood was jailed Friday on a domestic violence charge after an incident at his South Bend home.

Assistant St. Joseph County Police Chief Bill Redman said Haywood was arrested about 3 p.m. Friday after a custody issue developed with a woman with whom Haywood has a child. The unidentified woman told police that Haywood grabbed her by the arm and neck and pushed her as she tried to leave.

Redman said the woman had marks on her neck, arms and back.

"The University of Pittsburgh is aware of an alleged incident involving head football coach Michael Haywood today in South Bend, Indiana," the school said in an e-mailed statement. "The University expects the highest standards of conduct from its employees, including its coaches, and any breach of those standards is a very serious matter. The University will decline further comment until more complete information is available."

Haywood will be held without bond in the St. Joseph County jail until he goes before a judge. Redman said that might occur over the weekend, but no later than Monday.

Pittsburgh hired Haywood on Dec. 16 to replace Dave Wannstedt, who resigned under pressure. Haywood led Miami (Ohio) to a 9-4 record this season and the Mid-American Conference championship.

The 46-year-old Haywood also has been an assistant coach at Army, Ohio University, Ball State, LSU, Texas and alma mater Notre Dame.

Is it just me or has Bowl Season this year been out of sorts?? Plenty of upsets to go around. I would never have thought that UCF could hang with UGA, Washington over NEB, or that Notre Dame had the talent/speed to beat the U. Oh well...parity is a beautiful thing I guess.

On an unrelated note, someone explain to me why TCU is favored by 3 vs. Whiskey this afternoon?? I don't like the smell of that one for my Frogs... :(

I'm still not convinced Richt should be fired after his first losing season, but he probably will be anyway.

I saw the Haywood thing and it got me curious about this kind of thing. Have they signed the contract yet? If so, and they fire him, do they have to pay the buy out on the contract?

I don't think he gets fired... yet
But he probably needs to win the East next year to keep his job
And I believe the AD will use the time to scout a new coach

To fire him now and get someone new in with a staff would be difficult for recruiting, etc. unless they were ready to move on someone immediately, and I don't think they are

As far as Pitt is concerned, it is embarrassing :eek:
Sort of like the Mike Price deal at Bama several years back
Or even the Notre Dame / O'Leary deal
Hiring a coach and firing him before he even coaches a game is tough
