Oh I'm not saying I hope he does jump to UGA, because then my Yellowjackets would NEVER have a shot at beating UGA. At least we can keep it close most of the time now. I'm just saying he seems like precisely what UGA needs to stop the huge downward slide in their program. Hell, I'm happy if Richt stays. It means UGA will more than likely remain mediocre. And like I've always said...the only thing that makes me happier than a Tech win is a UGA loss (especially to an ex-Tech coach! :D )

This assumes UGA is a jump up from TCU :p

Keep in mind, Patterson turned down KState, his alma matter, and they are a pretty good program. It sounds as if he is fairly committed to TCU, esp with now being in a BCS conference

I think if he's smart though, he would stay with TCU and go to the Big East for a while with the program he has. He has a better chance of going undefeated in the Big East (more so than his chances of going undefeated in the SEC), and an undefeated, BigEast champion TCU is very likely to play in the national championship, especially with this Rose Bowl victory under his belt. Then, after that, he could jump to the SEC any time he wants. But, I think a coach (even a competitive coach) would first take the easier road to a potential national championship game if it was available. Then he could go to the big boy conference for the challenge any time.

Yep. All of these. (Though I still think our Dawg looks better. :))

An undefeated Big East team is not a lock for a BCS championship game over a one loss SEC team

I heard the same stuff about Dan Mullen going to Miami. And he chose to stay at a mid to lower tier SEC school rather than go to a supposed mid-upper tier ACC program. It's the same thing. Now, granted, I don't think Patterson will leave TCU, since I think he has a great thing going there. But I still think a mid to upper tier SEC program is way better than any Big East program. If you want to be the man, you have to beat the man.

Didn't say it was. Saying he has a better chance of going consistently going undefeated with his current program in the Big East than he would jumping into the SEC with a new team, building a new program/getting new recruits, and even going with one loss in the SEC. Too much parity there right now. Thus, I think his most immediate shot at a NC would be with TCU in the Big East.

Youve got a little bit different scenario here though. Patterson gets to stay with his current team and jump to a AQ conference that he should dominate, versus jump into the SEC (or any other conference, since he'll probably get several offers). You're talking about Mullen leaving his current team and going to a brand new team (Miami). The scenario with Mullen would be the same if he had the choice to take his current Miss State team to the ACC, which he would instantly become a front runne for conference champion, and a very good chance at a NC game birth. And would be a much easier route to go undefeated in the ACC and get that potential chance than to consistently go undefeated or only have one loss in the SEC.

Congrats to TCU! What a great game. And congrats to Texas Tech for winning their bowl game too.

Is it just me, or does this announcing crew for the Fiesta Bowl absolutely stink? It's like ESPN didn't even care about this bowl, and assigned their lowest crew to it. I know it's UCONN, but listening to these guys are just absolutely horrible to listen to. Maybe it's just me...

I really liked the package Fox had for the BCS. I wish they kept the contract. ESPN seems to be treating these like regular games.

It wasn't the 40 point blowout that everyone said it would be. Had UConn stopped the 3rd down run and maybe had a few of their own it would of been closer.

Virginia Tech sends 6 home from Miami

MIAMI -- Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer said six players who aren't on the two-deep roster will take a bus back to Blacksburg, Va., because they violated team rules.

Long bus ride home for these kids
Life lessons are sometimes hard to learn

I am also puzzled why this win is talk about "winning it for the little guys" as if it were the first time

It's annoying because it's flat-out wrong.

TCU isn't a "little guy." It's a Big Guy in a little conference.

Look at TCU's record over the past 10 years, including against BCS teams - this isn't a "little guy" team.

Looks like the refs don't want Uconn to have any chance.

Ninja, please - the refs called like, what, three penalties the entire game? UConn lost because they were clearly an inferior team.

Wow, a bus trip from Miami to Blacksburg? That would suck. If the rest of the team flies home, they might play the game and still beat them back home. I wonder if it was Greyhound or charter.

SEC > Big Least

The SEC is definitely a step-up from the MWC or the Big East, but I don't think you'll be seeing Patterson leaving TCU anytime soon. Most coaches who are looking to make a move leave after 3-4 years (or even less if they have little character), but when a guy is at a school for 10 years (13 including his time as an assistant) it becomes less likely each year that he'll go anywhere. And while K-State isn't even close to the same caliber of job that UGA is, it's Patterson's Alma mater. If he turned them down before TCU got to AQ status, why would he turn down a more difficult gig when TCU is on top?

Plus, while a undefeated team from the Big East isn't guaranteed a spot in the BCS "championship" like an undefeated team from the SEC (practically) is, in the current, ridiculous system we have, where you start is more important than who you play. TCU is at the point right now where they will start high every year as long as they keep winning. Next year they've got to break in a lot of new players, but if they win a ton of games again in 2011, they start their first Big East season in the top 10, at worst.

I honestly don't think an undefeated Big East team has any better chance at a BCS championship than an undefeated non-AQ team. If TCU had been in the Big East this year, they would have still been on the outside looking in. And if Auburn or Oregon had faltered, I believe TCU would have been in whether they were in the Big East or not.

The only thing the Big East does for you is get you in a BCS game even if you suck as long as you win the conference

I said earlier I don't expect him to leave. If he hasn't left after this long, and after turning down his own alma mater, he isn't leaving any time soon. I was just pointing out one reason he may leave. In reality, though, he has it made at TCU. The school seems committed to improving the program (new facilities) and the fans love him. And, in reality, TCU will probably be just as successful in the Big East as they have been in the MWC.
