as the swiss tv commentator said "it's like torres is wearing a lead vest under his shirt"
IMHO he should have left the EPL for a different league to get a breath of fresh air. Can you imagine him playing another 5 years at chelsea ? he is already now running across the field like he doesn't have fun anymore

I agree with you. Maybe he should go to La Liga... Valencia, Sevilla? Not Madrid or Barca because there are already too many great players and the "atmosphere" may be the same as in Liverpool and Chelsea. In Valencia or Sevilla he would be the key player helping the team. Chelsea, Real or Barca doesn't really need him.

Good for Corry. He looks like he'll be a solid player; probably not a star in the making but an important contributor in any team's engine room. Glad he's going to stay at a place like Hull where he'll get playing time and will be truly appreciated.

As for Torres: that does have to be one of the most head-scratching transfers around, but it's a typically Abramovich move - throw a ton of money at a player who doesn't remotely address the team's weaknesses. Chelsea's midfield still has energy and brute strength, but not much creativity or link-up play with the front line. While Torres is still missing his explosive burst of acceleration (will he ever get it back after all the knee injuries?), I don't think his woes at Chelsea are all his fault. It takes time to integrate a forward into the attack, to learn the tendencies of the other attackers and midfielders, and for them to learn how and where you like to receive the ball, &c. &c.

In the end I assume Chelsea is going to rebuild their attack around Torres this summer, letting Anelka and Drogba leave. Where else would Torres go? What other club could afford him? Certainly Valencia CF or Sevilla cannot.

Jonny Evans will no doubt be happy today following Manchester United's Champions League progression, but the Evans brother who will be especially chuffed this morning is Corry. Not only did he get the equalising goal for City last night, but he revealed in a post-match interview that he's agreed personal terms to join us in the summer, pending some paper work being sorted out between the two clubs.

This is good news. :)

The poster is already in the bin.:)

---

Torres should have joined the right club to begin with.:D

Manchester United yesterday; Park off the pace except for one delicious moment, and Rooney's short passing was poor.

COYS - keep the relatives happy. Edit - Oh dear, Gomes goal mess! Only need 6 - Not The Nine O'Clock News comes to mind.

Cheers,

meanwhile schalke won 2-1 against inter with little effort and again inter looked catastrophic in defending...
edit: going through against Inter with 7 goals is sure an achievment... oh and Raul scored his 71. CL goal and an assist

Next season's kits are starting to make an appearance, and some are a little strange:

Chelsea Home

Newcastle Home

Sunderland Home

The Newcastle United supporter in our office was rather crestfallen when he saw that, I can tell you. :D

I love 'New Kits' time of the year – although ours had better be an improvement on this season's. Proper stripes front and back please, Herr Dassler.

All 3 are a bit weird: the white shoulders on the chelsea kit, the fat stripes on the newcastle strip and the diagonal stripes on the back of the sunderland strip.

The diagonal stripes on the Sunderland kit looks like he's wearing a pair of braces!

We had a pretty good result at Aberdeen last night, a tough place to go on a cold mid-week evening. The Jelavic goal is rather good (hope that link worked, I can't verify it from my work.)

Bad news is we've lost Vlad Weiss to a broken foot, he's now gone back home for the rest of the season and I doubt Man City will let us have him next year.

Andy Carroll and plenty of Liverpool fans would disagree

:)

I think he's another Shevchenko, bought not because the team needs him, but simply because Abramovich can buy him. I know there's always time needed to fit in, but he also seems to lack any sort of drive or enthusiasm too

Time to go horizontal; the Hull City Hoops.:D

Yes, Gyan needs some DM styled football boots.

The Newcastle United top would be okay without the advertising and with the club and maker badges moved.

Shambolic defending by City, and Raul Meireles looks like a better midfield creator than anyone Chelsea's got at the moment, which is a bit of an indictment of Chelsea TBH. Suarez is also a pretty creative forward to partner up with, so that could be a pretty nice partnership for some years to come. I don't see Drogba and Anelka making the people around them better very often.

Yep, he was bought with no regard for how he would fit with the team. Torres is at least younger than Sheva was and Chelsea could get more out of him if they rebuild their team to suit him better, but I could just as easily see Abramovich throwing his new, expensive toy out of the pram in a fit of petulance.

Why does Newcastle's new kit remind me of FC Porto's from a couple years back? The stripes so wide they're not really stripes?

Time to go horizontal; the Hull City Hoops.:D
We've never had hoops – although the mystery black and amber hooped shirt we discussed a while back has since been identified as a Hull Town shirt from the 1880s. Blimey. Anyway, I prefer stripes as they make me look taller and more imposing. :)

Another kit that's been released – Liverpool's away shirt for next season. And very smart it is too...

I suspect we'll be in plain amber next season though – no stripes, other than Herr Dassler's anointments upon our sleeves.

The sponsor on the Newcastle shirt just doesn't look right.

Very cool on the Hull Town shirt. :D

Definitely stick with the vertical stripes though, they are thinning...

Stylish. I like.

Apparently these are real...

Holy cow, that away shirt...

As an aside, I find this newish trend of form-fitting shirts disturbing - while by no means fat, I do not have a premier league body and the "techfit" shirts would not be flattering. Let the Italians keep their tight shirts but lets leave the Premier League alone on that score.

The Liverpool away looks sweet.

The Arsenal home shirt looks good, could perhaps use a white collar for a bit more contrast. Simple and clean otherwise.

The away shirt is... hmm. I'll bet it looks better in person than laid flat.

If Nike can make decent looking kits for Arsenal, then why not for United? The leaked 2011-12 home shirt is a step backwards from this season's model with the naff little black and white striped collar. I do hope they find a way to remedy this season's horrid away and third shirts, but somehow I assume they'll find a way to make them even worse.

Can it really be 22 years to the day since the Hillsborough disaster?
As much as people say they prefer the 'good old days' of terracing, after being packed in at Hampden as a lad I'm pretty glad it's all seater these days.

Speaking as an American (coming from a long tradition of all-seaters), I don't see the point of terraces apart from appealing to nostalgia - and as Fuzzy pointed out, not everyone feels particularly nostalgic about terraces. Besides, maybe the "good old days" had more to do with what was happening on the pitch and less to do with the terraces themselves.

Man City looked pretty poor the other day, but Liverpool are looking reasonably solid. With Carroll and Suarez up top I think we can give Arsenal a very tough time. Arsenal really have nothing to play for now, but Liverpool is fighting for an important(ish) position.

I'm loving this confidence out of the Liverpool supporters! Amazing the turnaround in fortunes at Anfield in just a few months. (yes I admit I was wrong, I thought this would be a disaster for Kenny, now just 4 points away from a European place.)

If there were a 7 point gap in Scotland the other teams wouldn't be admitting defeat just yet, still not an unassailable lead by Man U.

Liverpool fans might have missed this story in Scotland, Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov says he could have bought over Liverpool before Gillett and Hicks got their hands on it. Vlad has been an absolute boon for the newspapers in Scotland, he struggles to keep a manager in employment for more than 6 months, insists on picking the team, throws in tactical comments into the press about splitting the Old Firm, promised much money and hasn't delivered. You got off lightly with Gillett & Hicks!

I too was a doubter...Dalglish richly earned his reputation from his previous time at the helm, but few managers could come out of retirement like Dalglish has and make an instant impact - he is certainly a special manager. I am very glad to be wrong on this one.

<Speaking through gritted teeth> As long as Fergie is at the helm I will never bet against United in the league. In order for Man U to fail to win it thay's have to have the worst collapse in the history of modern English football (slight hyperbole). The CL is a different matter though, especially given the current quality of the Spanish Old Firm.

Strong words. :D Gillette and Hicks were an absolute nightmare. Though, that Vlad character sounds like a trainwreck. Speaking of autocratic managers, there's still plenty of speculation that Abramovich insisted that Torres start against Man U, though I'm pretty skeptical.

Arsenal have nothing to play for? A couple of games going the wrong way in amongst Utd's heavy schedule & us whopping your a$$es come Sunday, well, the picture will look Rosie my dear!

We shall see. :) Man Utd have a tougher schedule to finish the season than Arsenal do, but either way you have to beat them on May 1st. Believe me, I don't want to see them win the title either, but I think it's well and truly over. I hope your boys prove me wrong...
