In other news today, an absolutely massive result for my Wigan Latics, picking up 3 points in a 4-3 nail-biter against Blackburn. Still in relegation trouble but at least they are out of the bottom 3 today.

Also, congrats to Hull, trouncing Scunthorpe 5-1.

In addition to losing another holding midfielder, Djourou is now injured too so we'll be using Squillaci for the Barca match. I think this officially begins, predictably, the usual Arsenal February/March Implosion.

What a stunning collapse by the gunners. Newcastle are still a good squad, but a team with title ambitions should never surrender a lead like that.

Come on! 5mins of extra time?!

Please Wolves, hang in there. Please!

Edit: YES! unbeaten run ends! and was done by the bottom team of the league. What. A. Day.

But to think we could have been 2 pts behind. *sigh* Arsenal.

Was Nolan booked for strangling Szczesny (buy a vowel man!)? Looks like Arsenal won the first 26 minutes 4-0 (with 11 against 11), while Newcastle won the last 26 minutes 4-0 (11 against 10).

Wolves v ManUtd - haha, I knew it, 5 minutes of added time! You could set your clock by it it's so predictable.

Excellent news for Arsenal - Alex Ferguson has just been awarded the manager of the month award. I always dread when it's handed to Wenger as it's a well known jinx. Mark my words, Man Utd will lose a couple of matches this month now, maybe even first up against Wolves, and Arsenal will go top. :)

Ooh er. Did I say, or did I say? That thing's jinxed, I tell ya.

How do you end Man Utd's undefeated run? Hand Ferge the manager of the month award!

My 'excellent news for Arsenal' prediction of course relied on Arsenal actually winning. This was the game they should have cut the gap to two points. At least they decreased it by 1 I suppose, better than nowt.

Arsenal may have gained point, but I'm sure for the players and manager it feels as bad as a loss.

If Chelsea win tomorrow then they are back in it surely? I'd rather Liverpool win or both teams draw.

Both Liverpool and Chelsea are playing better at the moment. Even setting the Torres factor aside for the moment, Chelsea's attack is strong and our defense is weak. It will be a tough game.

Indeed.

Apparently, Ferdinand is also out for a few weeks due to a calf injury. The Utd defense is now there for the taking seeing as the 'solid pair' have been split.

Vidic is still there though, but it's definitely a big blow. United's defense has put them top of the league and kept them there so far.

So that would be against Man City, Wigan, Chelsea and Liverpool then? Oh dear. Curse that jinxed manager of the month award. :D

I hope he's given the award again...maybe next month or the month after. That'd be super.

It has nothing to do with the Manager of the Month award, Wolves have now beaten five of the top seven - United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Sunderland - this season.

They didn't stand a chance. ;)

Would've beaten us too if it wasn't for Fabianski...i remember that match.

one week off the internet and lots of catching up to do with this thread

Carroll for 35 million _pounds_ ? thats what ... more than 40 million euro ? .. meaning more than what Özil(15), Khedira(12), Affeley(bought by Barca for _3_), Lewandwoski(4,5) and Janko (5,5) together have costed during the summer transfers season
obviously the english player tax is still in effect which roughly amounts to 200% extra just look at players like glen johnson 18 million, milner 28 million

regarding Gary Neville being the best right defender england had? well untill losing his pace because of his age i would say: Yes, but perhaps that is amplified by the current lack of a right defender who, well can actually defend

Rio Ferdinand being the most important ManU player and having been worth 30 mio: absolutely

Part of the reason Liverpool were willing to pay that much was because we had the Torres money to spend, but it's still a lot of money - that's about how much David Villa cost, isn't it? Still, Carroll has the potential to be a top striker.

Indeed, England has not been strong at right back for some years, so being the best right back for England is not necessarily a huge accolade.

It's odd, really - you've gotten a lot of points from teams few would ahve expectd to get a result from, but dropped a lot of points against "easier" opposition. Maybe a motivation problem? Or perhaps Mick's tactics work better against teams that try to play the ball on the ground?

I actually have a lot of confidence in Chris Smalling now. He and Vida make a solid pair in the middle.

Jonny Evans? Not so much anymore.
