UPDATE 2: 3rd freeze in over a week. NVIIDA card enabled.

Don't know if it was a coincidence, but it came back to life after it went to sleep (which is set to 10min).

As a work around, maybe try setting your macbook to go to sleep after 1min of inactivity.

just happened

I was fine up to yesterday
My MBp 2.66 i7 freezed 3 times and frequent beachballs even when opening pages or keynotes
I feel the machine to be really slow, my old white MB was really faster and never had problem wit it.
I'm really pissed 2400$ machine

MBP 2.66 i7, 500HD 2700, 4GB ram

MBP 15" i7 Hi-Res
First freeze 6/4/10
Running Google Chrome and seeding from Vuze in the background.
Cursor worked like people have said but everything else was unresponsive.

Just observed my second freeze of around 20-30 seconds with no keyboard or trackpad response. Running an i7 with 8GB and OCZ SSD.

15" MBP demonstrates a new behavior (first observed) today: mouse moves but keyboard commands are ignored for up to 30sec or so. I was attempting to switch spaces, but the machine wouldn't respond. Finally it just 'snapped' back into reality and began switching spaces like there had never been a problem

UPDATE 2: Well, the re-imaging solved the issue up until 30 minutes ago. I've been crash free for 4 days. I honestly don't know what happened. I stepped out to walk my dog and came back the macbook pro was at the screen telling you to hold down the power button. I initially thought it was the software update (1.3) to improve graphic stability so I left it out. Apparently I guess I can rule that out now.

This is getting a bit frustrating with this being my first mac purchase.

How so? The fixes don't mention any freezes etc. Plus I still had them...

Where it says it fixes the issue where the mouse/keyboard become unresponsive:confused:
Although you seem to be running 10.6.4 so....???

Sure but we talk about to many problems here. This particular issue may be fixed, but I never had it anyway. My problems are freezes and kernel panics. And they are still there.

What could it be then? As I have disabled the auto graphics switching and repaired permissions as well as Reinstalled SL 10.6.3 and nothing works.:(
I really hope they fix this (I spent $2700) on this computer and I expect it to work.

I am experiencing the same issues.

I received my MBP four days ago (15' anti-glare, i7, 8GO Ram, 500Go 7200rpm), on Friday it started to freeze randomly, on Saturday, it got worse since I had kernel panic during the boot sequence.

I managed to reinstall it today, it worked a few hours, and now I am back to kernel panics during the boot sequence :-(

Got my 15" i5 2.4GHz just yesterday. An hour or so ago it froze browsing with Chrome. Restarted it and went to YouTube, froze again.

Update 10.6.4 isn't showing up as my machine is saying it's up-to-date.

I bought my 15" i7 500gb MBP on the 19th of April and while I haven't experienced a general freeze it does happen every now and then when I try to quit Aperture 3. When it happens I experience the mouse and keyboard lockup.

That's bad HDD signal, send it to Apple...

My MacBook Pro just froze for the 3rd time today, I was watching MTV Movie Awards 2010 in Firefox (windows, right after I was playing a game)...

What are you guys doing to fix the freeze issues?

Some people report some measure of success by turning off "automatic graphic switching", but it's hard to say since the crashes can sometimes be totally absent for two weeks and then come back. :(:(:(
Personally, i'm on an external display, so it's always the Nvidia card, and yet i did experience a freeze. :(

Isn't that strange that the same problem happens to some 13" mbp users? this model is different but with also a new chipset and same trackpad as the iX macbook pro.

For those who are having freezing issues, might i suggest you turn off the "put hard drive to sleep whenever possible". I've have it turned off and my graphics set to dynamic switching for the past 10-12 hrs. I have not had any issues since. *KNOCK ON WOOD*. If would be great if you can share your results if you try this. Thanks.

I ran the software update, and also happen to have turned off "put hdd to sleep whenever possible".

I haven't had any freezes in over a week and have been using almost entirely on battery.

i am just about to return the quad core MacPro i just bought and getting the 15" i7, but now im reading this...?

ive only read a few pages of this thread but it seems there are alot of users having this issue. would anyone have an estimate on what percentage of these 2010 models are having the issue? looks like some believe they all will have the problem.

dissapointing
