You and me both... ughhhhhhh. We freaking iced our own kicker! Good god. Giants next week!!!!!

I'm not sure what was worse, though. Icing his kicker, or choosing not to take a time out and run another play with 24 seconds left. You know...to get a little closer so when you ice your guy, he has a better shot of making it (the second time).

The State of the NFL

Yesterday had to be one of the worst days of football this year.

The Raiders and Dolphins on nationwide TV? The Broncos... just because of Tebow? Detroit on Sunday night? Seriously? It's bad enough we have to watch that sorry team on Thanksgiving each year. And tonight, the Jags and Bolts. Who schedules these games?

I can't remember a worse year for the NFL. Other than the Packers, Saints and Patriots... no one is very good. Some are better than most but so many teams are worse than most.

Coaching is pathetic. Umpiring is pathetic. Teams are pathetic. Owners are pathetic. And the players are pathetic.

Plus, it is becoming a thug sport like the NBA did several years ago. Hip hop poses after plays, muggings on the field, tribal dances on sidelines, pot arrests, shootings...

I'm losing my favorite sport. :(

Agreed, that was one of the stranger sequences I've seen in a long time.

Nobody is forcing you to watch but I soundly disagree with almost everything you said there. I don't know where you were watching but the market you're in dictates the game you see. Based on your profile it sounds like you might be in california. If so, of course you saw the raiders game. Denver is challenging for the division and like him or not, Tebow is playing well enough to win and is intriguing at best (though I don't like him). The schedule originally called for the pats and colts on SNF but because the colts suck they flexed the detroit/saints game instead. If you recall the lions are the cinderalla story of the year and were the most recent undefeated to lose this year. They're hardly a sorry team and the fact that you think so tells me you don't know much about football. I do agree that tonights game between the chargers and jags could be the worst primetime game of the year but gerenally the chargers are a second half of the season team and every team deserves a shot at primetime. Even though the Jags already got one against the ravens, but they did win that game. It should be a good game tonight, it just has no playoff implications and other games would have been better suited for the time slot.

I don't know what you mean about teams, coaches, refs, owners and players being pathetic though. We've some prolific stuff this year. Rodgers will be the second unanimous MVP in league history. Calvin Johnson started the first 5 games of the season with stats any other WR would take for the whole year. Coaches are doing pretty well all things considered. Kubiak finally has done well with arguably the worse injury situation yet, both harbaugh's are dominating and one is a rookie NFL Coach, John Fox has turned Tebow into some kind of NFL QB, Ron Rivera may not be winning but at least the fans are happy in Carolina, Tom Coughlin may not have won yesterday but his team can't be sad about barely losing to the best team in the league, and even the coaches of the worse teams are still doing well. I can only make a case for one really BAD coach and that's Norv Turner; he just sucks and should have been fired ages ago. Owners should have as little to do with football as possible and the only pathetic one is Jerry Jones. He needs to go play golf and relax and let his team do its thing. Refs are always going to miss calls. The rule book is huge and at full speed things are hard to judge. I don't want their job and most people would start crying if they had to do it. I don't know what you mean about thug sport either. Sure there are bad apples. There always will be but you can't group the rest of the sport with them just because they do things to hurt themselves and others.

The NFL is by far the best sport we have in America and while I wish soccer was bigger, it'll never be better than the fifth best sport as long an Football, Baseball, Hockey and Basketball are doing what they do.

Couldn't have said it better. Ugh.

Definitely. That made absolutely no sense. If they are around the 20 yard line, I can see it. You don't want to risk a fumble or any other bad turnover. But it wasn't even close to being a sure thing...and with 24 seconds and 2 time outs, I just can't figure out why they thought spiking the ball in that situation was necessary. Very, very odd.

The Raiders and Dolphins on nationwide TV? They're playing good football
The Broncos... just because of Tebow? Playing entertaining football. Their Defense is great and Tebow is playing well, it won't last for years, so may as well enjoy it while we can.
Detroit on Sunday night? Again, good football
And tonight, the Jags and Bolts. Who schedules these games? Yeah, this isn't really a great Monday night game

I can't remember a worse year for the NFL. Other than the Packers, Saints and Patriots... no one is very good. Some are better than most but so many teams are worse than most. That's a hangover from the lockout. Giants are having more injuries than they should and they are down to less time for strength and conditioning. Remember everyone saying offenses would suffer due to the lockout? Well I think it was more the Defenses getting messed with.

Coaching is pathetic. Umpiring is pathetic. Teams are pathetic. Owners are pathetic. And the players are pathetic. Don't agree here, the only team that I see as pathetic is the Colts. They should not be a one man team, but they plainly are.

Plus, it is becoming a thug sport like the NBA did several years ago. Hip hop poses after plays, muggings on the field, tribal dances on sidelines, pot arrests, shootings... From an English perspective, it always has been.

I'm losing my favorite sport. Really? You know what I love about this sport is that it is really hard to get a dynasty going. Since the Premier League was formed in 1992, only four teams have won the league, how disgusting is that?! In that same time frame, the NFL has had 14 different teams win the Superbowl.

You are correct. The shame is in losing four of the final five games of the season by a combined total of just 18 points.

18 stinkin' points!
It could be worse – and it could get worse. Imagine if you lose to me in the play-offs. The shame! ;)

The Premier League bills itself as 'The Greatest League In The World™'. Having experienced its delights first hand, trust me when I say it really isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Indeed, first football game I went to was West Ham vs Liverpool with my dad, then ended up a Southampton fan, so I know the premier league is a cruel mistress. Unfortunately the gulf between leagues is getting bigger that I see the real possibility of some kind of franchise league in Europe eventually...

49ers clinch division early and on any other year I would be very hopeful but when there's somebody out there like 12-0 Green Bay, it's scary to even hope.
