3 points deciding the game at the end? Sorry, that's too close to skip the trip. You're just hoping the Giants don't turn up...

lol.

that pats played their worst game of the season and got by the Ravens. I don't see the Giants playing anywhere near the level of the Ravens (the Giants are physically quite weak, especially on defense), so I think it will be quite easy for the Pats.

especially, after Brady having such a poor game, that never happens twice in a row.

in addition, Brady is still upset about the 18-1 season.

seriously, I wouldn't even get on the bus if I was the Giants.

Ok. Pats slipped through despite Brady yesterday. Giants beat two stronger teams than the Patriots and have a stronger throwing game than the Ravens. But I guess you didnt watch the giants vs pats game earlier in the season where the giants were much weaker. You didn't watch the Jets, Cowboys, Falcons, GREEN BAY and 49ers games where the Giants became much more physical and found a running game, and last night, a special teams.

If the game comes down to the wire on a dry field (which it will be), Manning will come out on top.

oh lord, you've been drinking the kool-aid.

let's start with the giants coach staff.

Are you serious! I hope you realize that you have no credibility with all of the ridiculous statements you've been making around here. You want us to consider the Giant's coaching staff when you don't even know the name of NE's kicker.

Are you talking about the Tom Coughlin led coaching staff and team that just set a playoff record for road wins? Look, I don't have a team in the hunt this year and thus all I'm rooting for is a good game on SB sunday. It's cool if you want to cheer for your team, but how about we leave all of the inaccurate and silly statements out of the debate and analysis. In other words when it comes to intelligent and factual "trash talking" how about you "not even get on the bus"! :D ;)

It's a joke. I'm alluding to the fact that the Pats have been in almost half of the last 11 Super Bowls, therefore it's easy for me to get players confused. To be honest, I don't care who you do/don't consider, as BB will go down as the best modern NFL coach, and will go into the HOF in his first year of eligibility.

lol. I could talk all of you guys into the ground, statistically speaking (percentage of NFL-based questions answered correctly) and statistically speaking (with reference to probabilistic-based NFL playoff scenarios), but it's more fun to troll this thread in a juvenile manner.

I'm just glad that I don't have to listen to another ridiculous deity-fueled speech by Tee-bag. They were totally trolling him on the Sky (British) broadcast and outrightly stated that he had a fluke year and would never amount to anything. He'd be even worse than Alex Smith, who has been essentially the biggest waste of a 1st round pick in the last ten years.

Did Brady really have a poor game or did Baltimore not allow him to play as usual?

I find it funny that whenever a good or great quarterback has a so-so game against a great defense it's because they had a poor game and nothing at all to do with the defense.

That wasn't the worst game by the pats this season, their 3 losses where, and look at who already beat the pats, and now the Giants D is playing even better.

I'll give you that with Brady we never know even if the other is the best ever D how much it'll affect him and it seldom does, and again if it's going to be so easy for the pats why go with a 3 point win.

acidfast7, you're making a joke of real pats fans. please stop. you have no idea what you're talking about.

really excited for this rematch. pats made it despite brady playing like crap. that's encouraging for february 5th because brady rarely plays like crap two games in a row. should be a good one.

Really sounds like you are 0-1 when it comes to names of kickers!

I think I understand the AFC strategy. Have 2 good teams in the entire conference (Pittsburgh and New England) beat the snot out of the rest of the cupcake conference, so one of those 2 decent teams can walk into the superbowl healthy while all of the great NFC teams have beat the crap out of each other all season so they have to limp into the superbowl, That way the AFC team wins a fair share of the time.

It all makes sense now

lol. I bet that I could pronounce the current kicker's name correctly. most people not in the know, pronounce both K's, including most commentators.

I am looking and trying really hard to figure out how this goes with statistics and percentages....

At least we have one thing in common is that we both hate the person from Denver.

basically it's "win shares" with NFL stats. but, I don't want to bore you guys.

if one understands his polish ancestry and understands the polish language, then you should be able to infer that my "breath of knowledge" is great enough to understand that Adam hasn't been kicking for the pats for a very long time.

maybe i just need to be blunt with you guys as the induction isn't so strong within readers of this thread.

Weren't you all high into statistics and what not, what has higher odds they winning another by 3 or winning by more than 3 (or even 2)?

winning by 3 actually (rather 2.8±0.5 pts) if one excludes the prototypical, yet irrelevant, home field advantage. it's hard to statistically consider the value of calling the coin toss, which is increasing the error in my simulations.

Here's some help...

Yet only 5 out of 55 Super Bowls have been decided by exactly 3 points

calculate SOS/SOC for each team in the superbowl, then tell me the correlation between the (delta)SOS/SOCs and the (delta)score. if you just want to divide 5 by 55 and assume that's a reasonable sample size, that's OK...

Love when those band wagon fans appear.

The Giants D held the Niners to 3 and out all night, I think they can stop the Pats offense. While Eli is playing like a star QB this season Brady always find another gear in the SB. Both teams get a week off so they will both rest or rust up. Neither team has an advantage there. I do like the Giants chances in this game. They are healthier than when they played them week 9. I say Giants by 6.

No idea what SOS/SOC means english is not my native language, tried googling but got nothing, if all superbowls are ment to be 3 point games, 50 vs 5 is a great indicator that they're actually not. if we go by NE games 4 out of 6 have been 3 point games, all 4 in the BB era, i don't know you but that doesn't give me enough confidence to think they're going to steam roll the Giants and they should not even get on the bus.

strength of schedule (SOS)
strength of conference (SOC)

correlations can be seen between the differences in absolute score and delta(SOS), delta(SOC) and delta(SOS-SOC).

basically, when the teams are more evenly matched the difference between scores is small. when one crunches the numbers, NE is favored by 2.8±0.5 pts, that's why they'll will by 3. and why the Giants shouldn't even get on the bus, as their chances of winning are statistically quite small (and winning by a TD or more are virtually non-existent.)

Obviously you've never been to candlestick park. They don't sit around eating brie cheese and sipping on wine.

They are the same as any football fan in any stadium in this country.

Idiot football fans arn't limited to San Francisco. ;)

You must be young. That was the reputation Niners fans were saddled with in the 80s and it still lingers on - see some of the articles from New York tabloid sports columnists over the past week.

But yeah, I know full well the atmosphere in the stands at NFL games, including at Candlestick, has changed a lot. It's one of the reasons I don't care much for the NFL anymore. Soon, they're going to need European-style seating segregation to keep opposing fans totally separated.

you can keep going on about all this crap if you want, but it doesn't matter. the game is played on the field, not in a calculator.
