It all depends on the GPU of intel.

If Intel is weaker than the 320m, then Apple will:

1. Use AMD ( assuming that the new AMD cpu beats the C2D. )
2. Redesign the 13" MBP to make room for a dedicated GPU.

From what i've read Intel is supposedly phasing out the Core 2 Duo's this late fall. Therefore it can't really have a C2D. And with the Nvidia & Intel lawsuit, Apple might have to switch back to the Intel GMA.

IMO, the biggest improvement they could make is use a dedicated graphics card. I would buy one the second they came out.

I wish it could be more like the 12" PB. Dedicated graphics, and still really small.

I agree. I can't wait for a 13" mbp with dedicated graphics.

Why don't they just use AMD processors and ATI graphics to avoid issues with Intel & Nvidia?

Any idea WHEN the 13" MBP will be updated?

Any idea when the 13" MBP will be updated?

I'm currently in the market for a 13" MBP but it's close to the end of the lifecycle and due for an update either end of this year or early winter. If end of this year I guess I could wait but early winter would be tough as I would like it now.

Any thoughts?

I suppose the 13" MBP update will be largely contingent upon the levels of Core 2 Duo stock in Apple's possession. With the discontinuation of The Core 2 Duo chipsets later this year, it remains to be seen whether it is possible for Apple to continue milking the Core 2's well into 2011 or whether we'll see an update in November/December due to depleted stock. Maybe Apple would only update the 13" at that time. They would update it to the i5's (even the average consumer knows that an i3 should not be in a "pro" laptop) and god knows what they'll do regarding the graphics issue. They would then have to suffer the short period in which the 13" MBP's would cannibalize sales of the 15" and 17". It seems more plausible however, that Apple may stock up large on Core 2's to avoid all that but hey what do I know. The way Apple are going lately I wouldn't be surprised if they sealed a deal with Intel to continue the production of Core 2's for 4 more years!!

If apple's that serious about getting rid of the supply of C2D's.. and want to upgrade at the same time... I can see the C2D 2.6 GHz model becoming the base (with a reduce price) and the i3 becoming the top tier.. than add the i5 6 months latter

But in my opinion.. The next MBP 13 should only have "one" CPU and that should be the Core i3-380M (3M Cache, 2.53 GHz)

It would be kinda stupid to put the i5/i7 in the 13.. what would you need all that power for.. the majority of the 13 sell's are toward the "college freshman" crowd... why add to an almost ridiculous price point... and I'm pretty sure Job's wouldn't want the 13 sales to interfere with the 15 sales so I really don't see i5 coming to the 13

And USB 3.0 is not that big of deal.. wish you guys give it a rest

The new MBP 13 should have the i3-380 and the Nvidia GTX 460M !!!

So how much do you think they will cost new.... And someone said they might be coming out with a i3 MBP before xmas?

In the recent "back to mac" event jobs mentioned that they gonna be launching Mac OS X Lion somewhere around summer 2011,Sandy bridge is supposed to arrive later this year or early next year,I doubt there gonna be any major upgrade in macbooks around new year.I guess they gonna make us wait a bit more this time, may be till april-may 2011...
This is what I think,I may be wrong...

That is based on an article that was released in June 2009... There is no reliable data about C2Ds being renamed, it is only guessing.
So based on the recent release of the MBA, do you still stand by the notion that you made earlier that the C2D will be EOLed by Q1 2011?

Frankly, I only see two options. Rebrand the name, or keep the C2D name. EOL won't happen in Q1 2011. The MBA won't be due for a refresh until early summer.

Any news or rumors regarding a new Macbook Pro 13"?
I`m about to buy one but knowing that anytime soon we could see a upgraded version of the MBP makes me unsure what to do:confused:
Some say it will come in january -11 and others say summer -11, big differance there.

Would love to see MBP get that i5 processor and higher screen res. That`s really worth waiting for in my opinion.

Any thoughts?

Respectfully, there are multiple posts and threads about this every single day. If you haven't yet done so, I'd recommend reading through those. If you've done so already, please forgive me, but your post doesn't seem to convey that you've done so.

My answer to your question:
  1. Nobody who knows what to expect is talking; they're likely under NDA. Everything else is pure speculation.
  2. Reading the past few years of Apple press releases at the Apple Press Release Library can be fun. Google it, I don't have the link saved.
  3. If you need a new computer now, consider buying a used or refurb, then you can always resell at a minimal financial loss whenever the new model comes out; and you also benefit from being better able to wait until they've had a couple months on market for the first batch of bugs to be dealt with.
  4. Most importantly: If you don't NEED a new computer today, then wait. If waiting is an option, as your post suggests, then you don't NEED a new computer today
.

EOL doesn't mean that all computers with C2D will be EOLed as there should be plenty of chips sitting in warehouses. I'm just expressing what I've read and seen

Maybe Apple bought a big batch of C2Ds for MBA. I doubt C2D will be renamed as that would be ridiculous and there are no proofs supporting that.

I doubt Apple will kill the 13" MBP. The 13" Air isn't really a substitute.

The white MB will get the i3, use the on-chip graphics, and keep it's form factor.

And if Apple wants it's 13" MBP to really be a "Pro", they will offer it with the same i5/i7 options (maybe just a slightly lower clock speed for heat purposes). The ODD is gone (when Lion arrives), and faster dedicated GPUs will be in all three Pro sizes.

Mid-to-late summer is when we will see the major changes in the MBPs.

Storage is going to be flash only.
RAM 4GB or 8GB soldered.
NO CD = More space, more battery too, at least 8 hours.

About the GPU, what new cards are going to be released for mobile computers in the future?

I think that the MBA has pointed the way in some respects. I can see this going either way, could keep CD2, but I think we'll see i5 and flash memory, with the flash memory solving the space issue and also allowing the battery life to remian around the same. 128gig standard with 256gig option. 2gig ram plus 4 gig option. Apart from that the kit will remain the same.

In fact they could go the flash route and remain at CD2 and still see s aignificant increase in speed from the flash memory, so the redesign may be minimal.

February refresh.

EDIT: And an increase in screen res to match the MBA.

For me, the killer thing it needs to have is multiple external monitor support, either by DisplayPort 1.2, Lightpeak or both.

One or the other, I'll buy one. Otherwise, pass.

FWIW I realise that to get multiple monitor support out of DP 1.2 you need to have the monitor to support that as well - I figure by next year we'll start seeing those, but I'm not buying another notebook without it regardless. :)

Ooh, yeah that'd be nice too. Pretty logical.

I wouldn't bet money on getting an anti-glare screen though (someone mentioned it earlier), you're dreaming.

MacBook White:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66ghz
2GB RAM
Newer graphics
250GB HDD
1440x900 resolution screen ?

Macbook Pro 13"
Intel Core i3
4GB RAM
320GB HDD
1440x900 resolution screen
Intel, AMD, or NVidia graphics

This gives Apple the perfect time to make the distinction from the unibody White Macbook and the Macbook Pro.

I'd say yes to everything but the 1440x900 res screen on the White.

And Apple needs to put 6GB of RAM in all of its Pros. 4GB is just not enough when you have Safari hogging over 1GB.

I'm really rooting for an i5 in the 13". Somehow some way. But the only catch is, I still want the SuperDrive in there. Not sure if this Sandy Bridge thing can deliver that or not. I don't know enough about it.

i5 + SuperDrive = I'm buying.
i3 + SuperDrive = Not unless it's noticeably more powerful than my 2.4GHz C2D.
C2D with or without SuperDrive = not interested, already got one.

Wow...Safari has never taken that much memory for me...

Activity Monitor shows Safari going on 5 hours straight running, with 6 tabs, using just over 280MB. I did completely uninstall flash...Would it make THAT much of a difference?
