Or none of those. Twilight zone style.

That's heavy. I tried processing it with my C2D cpu, but it couldn't handle the intensity. Here's hoping for a 13" with 1.21 Gigawatts of power this year so I can not only crack that riddle, but also travel ahead in time so I never have to speculate on future Apple releases again.

I tried typing it on an iPhone and it exploded in my hand, seriously injuring myself and the three garden gnomes with whom I was fornicating. Don't judge me.

Review of the new intel integrated Sandy Bridge GPU. Considering it is on par with the 320M in actual gaming (to a very minimal lesser extent) Apple has no reason not to offer new core i processors in the MBP 13 :)

This makes me think that they could offer a discrete chip as well. The ATI 6630M along with the SB integrated GPU is being used in the recently announced/refreshed Thinkpad Edge 14". So it's definitely possible to fit a discrete gpu in a similar form factor.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; it-it) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148a Safari/6533.18.5)

I think that in this case, it's all about profit margins rather than being able to deliver such a product.

That review was terrible! They put the intel gfx ahead of the 320m yet COD MW/ COD BO and BFBC2 were all unplayable!

The 320m play all the above games at native res at medium to high settings.
If those benchmarks are accurate for the intel gfx I wouldnt swap my 320m for it if you paid me!

:confused:huh??
Where the hell does that come from? Did I miss something? The first virus for mac? A swap between two threads?

Looks like an attempt at a joke based on rneglia's comment regarding why she and her husband have no children. I'm not sure why that would be a joking matter.

Well I guess with this morning's official announcement of Sandy Bridge and with all of the positive reviews that followed once the NDAs were up at midnight we can pretty much see the most likely course Apple will follow.

Sandy Bridge with it's integrated graphics solution will mostly likely be at the heart of the MacBook, MacBook Air, and 13" MacBook Pro as each gets updated in 2011.

There is still a chance for a "high end" version of the 13" MacBook Pro with dedicated graphics, but only if the stories of a machine without an optical drive come to fruition.

After the reviews of Sandy Bridge, I'm almost certain that Apple will be incorporating it into their new MBP 13". The IGP is similar in performance to the 320M, but the CPU is quite a bit more powerful. I think it would be a worthy upgrade.

As for no optical drive and SSD standard, who knows. This may happen as well.

Most definitely. Especially moving from the present Core2Duo P8600 innards, it will be quite a leap forward for the 13" machines. I am very relieved that AnandTech gave the igp such a good review. Anand is a very trustworthy guy.

Unfortunately I'm not so optimistic. I wouldn't call Anandtech's review a "good review".
According to the results, we're looking at an 8% increase in performance over the 320m with low details and a 6% decrease with medium details.
And that's with a very powerful i7 quadcore pickung up the slack!

As I highly doubt that we'll see an i7 quadcore in the next MBP 13", we're most likely looking at a significant decrease in gpu power..

Is it worth the tradeoff for a much more powerful CPU?
I guess we'll see what Apple decides to give us and how the MBPs will perform in real life but it's hard to be optimistic about this :(

The GPU is still the same. Most games don't even support more than one or two cores so having a quad core doesn't help that much. In fact, dual core is likely faster due to its clock speed.

Well, I'm definitely hoping that it doesn't get much worse than this. :D

Not true. The i3 Sandy Bridge dual core only clocks at 650/1100Mhz versus 650/1300Mhz for the i7. The i7 Quad core also has faster memory clock of 1600Mhz vs 1333Mhz which would benefit integrated graphics. The graphics in The ULV Sandy Bridge processor going into the Macbook Air is clocked even lower at 350/900Mhz.

The Quad core tested has equal or higher dual core/single core turbo speed than any dual core (same as the i7 dual core) - so your point about lower clock speed is mute.

Valid points but remember that the reported Turbo speeds are theoretical maximums. It's rather unlikely that both, the CPU and GPU would be running at their maximum Turbo speeds at the same time. Turbo is quite tricky because it's very theoretical, we don't know what was the clock speed of the CPU and IGP during the tests. A lot is dependent on the cooling system as well.

We don't know yet, for sure, how much slower the dual core parts will be but I wouldn't expect dramatical difference. I guess we'll see that when the dual cores arrive

Why would the next 13" not include an updated discrete graphics card?

Shouldn't be a dramatic difference - maybe 5-10% slower. Which means it fall further behind in meduim settings. Overall, I'd still take the Sandy Bridge i3+IntelIGP over Core 2 Duo+320M due to dramatic CPU speed difference (likely 50%+) and overall slightly slower graphics (maybe 10-15%).

The ULV Sandy Bridge graphics however will see a dramatic decrease due to the much lower graphics clock speed.

But the 320M in MBA is very likely underclocked as well, at least the 9400M was. I wouldn't worry about the MBA though, it's not targeted at users who seek for performance. I would gladly trade-in my 320M for worse GPU if I got more battery life. That's what SB will likely provide according to the early battery tests

Because the current model doesn't have a discrete GPU. If Apple can fit a discrete GPU in the new MBP13" then we wouldn't be worrying about whether or not its going to use Sandy Bridge.

No, MBA 320M has exactly the same clocks in the MBA. In fact 320M in the 13" MBA is faster than in the 13" MBP for some reason (most likely because of larger L2 cache). 11" model graphics is slower due to CPU (lower clock and lower memory speed).

That's quite surprising. I was sure that at least 11" would have underclocked 320M since it's so small. I would prefer a GPU-Z screenshot though
